    DEATH OF D. H. WITMER

    Another one of the older residents has departed for the other shore. Mrs. D. H. Witmer, on the evening of the 9th inst., departed this life, after only 2 days illness, aged 62 years, 1 month and 5 days. The deceased was the youngest daughter of the late Michael Fisher, who built "Fisher's' Mills" in 1844, coming there from Vaughan, where deceased was born. She was first married to the late Abram Witmer and lived for some time in Galt, but on marrying Mr. D. H. Witmer, who survives her, some twenty-six years ago, she removed to Hespeler, where she has resided ever since. The deceased could give some very interesting reminiscences of the early times in Waterloo and Hespelcr, and from her generous and kindly nature, made many friends. She was a great lover of flowers, and from her little conservatory many an occupant of a sick room was gladdened by the bouquets that were sent by her. She leaves no children.

Ida Fisher, beloved wife of the late John Burton, R.R.2, Preston, Township Road No. 3 and dear mother of Mrs. Harold Reeve (Viola) of Guelph and the late Leonard Burton of R.R.2, Preston, in her 92nd year.     Notes:

    Died (aged 65) in a car accident the evening of May 29, 1964, on Highway 24 three miles north of Hespeler, while returning from a road inspection. The driver of the other car involved in the head-on collision was charged, and one witness said that she believed that the five men in the car had been drinking. Mr Burton was a century farm owner and township school trustee. He was active in the co-op and Credit Union movement, and was a past president of Breslau Credit Union. As councillor, he held every committee chairmanship, and chaired township's road committee at time of death. Active in Co-op and Credit Union movement and president of Breslau Credit Union. "One of the chief supporters of the new administration building...and one of the original township officials supporting area planning"
