Brubacher.-.John A. Brubacher died at his home on the Kitchener-Guelph Highway, in Ontario, Nov. 28, 1937, after a brief illness, aged 93 y. 8 m. 17 d. He was a son of the late Elias and Sarah Brubacher, was born in Waterloo Tp., March 11, 1844,and farmed in the neighborhood of his birthplace his entire life. Aug. 14, 1864, be was united in marriage to Mary Jane Mayer who predeceased him on Dec. 25, 1871. On Oct. 15, 1872, he was again united in marriage to Hannah Cook, who passed Oct. 15, 1921. He is survived by his 2 sons (Cyrus of Victoria, B. C., and Jacob at home); also 4 brothers and 1 sister (Franklin and Henry A. Brubacher of Kitchener and David and Elias of Didsbury, Alta., and Mrs. A. Stauffer of Preston). Two grandchildren also survive. He was predeceased by 3 daughters and 1 son. The funeral was held from his late residence to the Cressman Mennonite Church, Breslau,. Ont., for services, and adjoining cemetery for burial. Minister in charge, Oscar Burkholder. Funeral services for the late Mrs. Susannah Shantz were held at the M.B.C. Church on Saturday, December 15. The services were in charge of the Pastor, Rev. F. Vincett, Didsbury, assisted by Rev. C.J. Hallman and Rev. A. Traub.

A large number of friends gathered to show their respect to the departed. A solo, "Asleep in Jesus," was rendered by Rev. C.J. Hallman, and at the graveside a hymn, "We Are Going Down The Valley One By One," was sung. Interment was made in the Didsbury cemetery.

Pallbearers were: N.B. Snyder, Amos Weber, Ezra Sherick, Oliver Stauffer, Allen Hunsperger, and Elah Shantz.

Mrs. Susannah Brubacher Shantz was born at Shantz Station, near the village of Breslau, Waterloo County, Ontario, on October 30, 1847, and died on December 11, 1931, at the Didsbury Hospital after a lingering illness of six months, borne with Christian fortitude, and during which time she received the best medical attention and the care of competent nurses.

She was the second eldest daughter of the late Elias and Shara (Ariss) Brubacher family. In 1863 she was united in marriage with the late Elias Shantz.

To this union were born six children, three of whom still survive: Sarah (Mrs. Detwiller), of Farrington, Michigan; Ida (Mrs. Petrie) and Elijah, both of Calgary. Three children predeceased the late Mrs. Shantz: Jeremiah, Leah and Rose. Five brothers and one sister also survive, two of whom, David and Elias Brubacher, reside in Didsbury.

There are 18 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren, still living. The deceased also leaves a host of friends to mourn her loss.

The late Mrs. Shantz came to Alberta in 1903 and had since lived in this vicinity, for a number of years before her death living in Didsbury. She was a member of the M.B.C. Church, with which she and her late husband were connected since the earliest years of its inception.

"Henry A. Brubacher of Edna St. died at a Guelph hospital to day after a brief illness at theage of 95 years. A Waterloo Tp. native, he was a s/o the late Mr. and Mrs. Elias Brubacher. He was the oldest charter member of the Alma St.United Brethren Church and was formerly Sunday school superintendent for many years.

Surviving are four sons, Homer and Wilbur of Kitchener, Sheldon of Toronto and Lyman of Minneapolis; two brothers, Franklin of Kitchener and David of Didsbury, Alta.; one sister, Mrs. Agnes Stauffer of Preston; 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Return To Girlhood Church Highlights 94th Birthday

A return trip to the church which she remembers visiting as a little girl highlighted a birthday celebration yesterday for Mrs. Agnes Stauffer, who today celebrates her 94th birthday.

A hymn sing in the white frame church at the Pioneer Village, Doon, highlighted the visit and was enjoyed by about 40 relatives who had attended a birthday supper in the village.

Mrs. Stauffer gazed about the church with its wooden beams and no ceiling, its hand-made wooden benches, and old black stoves. On the front wall of the church is painted a brown fringed scroll with the golden inscription, "The Lord Be With You."

The service in the church was held at the request of Mrs. Stauffer. It added spiritual significance to the celebration for her and brought back many memories.

The 103-year-old church stood for a century at Freeport and was donated to the village three years ago by the United Church of Canada.

Mrs. Stauffer did not visit the church too often for travel was difficult when she was a child. She remembers well, getting from Breslau across the Grand River by way of Bridgeport, as there was no Breslau bridge.

Born on a farm on the Kitchener- Guelph highway, she is a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Elias Brubacher. She spent her girlhood in this county and then lived in Cincinnati, Ohio for 30 years. There she married Addison Stauffer, whom she had known as a child.

For about 15 years she lived in Preston as a companion-housekeeper for the family of the late Thomas Yates. Since last. September she has been a resident of the Sunnyside Home for the Aged in Kitchener.


Mrs. Stauffer is the oldest resident of the home. Last month she shared an honor with the oldest male resident and cut the ribbon at the ceremony for the opening of a newly furnished Common Room. This room has been provided especially for the entertainment of guests and
Mrs. Stauffer is looking forward to having her share of visitors there.

After being a member of St. Paul's United Church, Preston for many years, she recently transferred her membership to Christ the King United Church, Kitchener. Her minister, Dr, B. L. Oaten, conducted the church service last night. Mrs. Clayton B. Eby of Freeport played the organ. The birthday party was arranged by a nephew, Wilbur Brubacher and Mrs. Brubacher of RR 3, Kitchener.

Beloved husband of the late Viola Cober and the late Laura Studiman; dear father of James of New Liskeard, Edward of Elmwood, Mrs. Norman (Beulah) Robinson of Elmira, Mrs. George (Jean) Gibson of Guelph and dear brother of Mrs. Cecil (Irene) Holm of Cambridge. The late Mr. Brubacher is also survived by five step-sons and four step-daughters, 23 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Loving father of Peggy (Mrs. Chuck Laugalys) of Brantford and Miss Lori Brubaker, at home; dear son of Mrs. Alma Brubaker of Kitchener; loving brother of Vernon of Kitchener, Eva (Mrs. Earl Bowman) of Elmira, Rita (Mrs. Ken Hegedorn) of Millbank, Doris (Mrs. Ernie Dyck) of Kitchener. Mr. Brubaker was past president of the Kinsmen Club, steward of St. Paul's United Church, member of 1-40 Club, a mason, Preston Hespeler Rotary Club member, member of the board of directors of South Waterloo Memorial Hospital; operator of his own chartered accountant business, in Preston since, 1951. Resting at the Barthel-Stager Funeral Home, Queenston Road at Argyle Street, Cambridge, until noon on Thursday, then to St. Paul's United Church, for funeral service, at 2 p.m. Interment in Park Lawn cemetery.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lorne Brubacher on Tuesday, February 25, 2020, in his 95th year. Lorne enjoyed a full and active life. He had a passion for gardening, fishing and especially barbershop singing. He recently retired as a volunteer at Sunnyside Home, after 20 years, and was an active member of Christ the King United Church. His sharp wit and humour are legendary. Feisty to the end, he lived at home until his very last days. Predeceased by his loving wife Vivyan, sister Evelyn and brother Howard. Dear father to Gale (Dave), Doug (Sue), Carol Stephenson (Al), Gary (Evelyn) and Tim (Heidi). Cherished grandpa to Beth Wilson (Jamie), Jackie Leung (Jim), Ewan Cameron (Alison), James Cameron (Jessica), Tara Wasilka (Anton), Ryan (Lauren), Nathan, Ali Ford (Brian), Phoebe Olszewski (Pat) and Max Naiman (Sharene). Proud great 'Grandpa B' to Nick, Ella, Ian, Vivienne, Kyra, Scarlett, Georgia, Olivia, Quinn and Ruby. Also proud 'Grandpa B' to step great grandchildren Cameron, Duncan and Jenna. Special companion to our loving and caring friend Cindy Mounteer. He will be sadly missed by his brothers Russell and Wayne (Sylvia), and many nieces and nephews. She dedicated most of her life to volunteering and was always involved with her community. In her spare time she tended to her roses with her dear husband, Edward. Millsville, Pictou Co., passed away on Saturday, June 10, 2006, in Aberdeen Regional Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in Kitchener, Ont., he was a son of the late Wilbur and Emma (Haufshield) Brubacher. He was a resident of Millsville for the past 30 years. During his life he worked mostly as a salesman but also a fireman with the Kitchener Fire Department. His passions were reading, gardening, cooking, fishing and travel. He traveled throughout ca, the us, Mexico and S witzerland. After settling in Nova Scotia, he devoted much of his time to painting, becoming an accomplished artist. His art reflected beautiful rural Pictou County, his travels and his family. Surviving are daughters, Susan Brubacher (Peter Latulippe), Millsville; Michelle (Chris) Tupper, Coquitlam, B.C.; sons, Ward (Mae), Millsville; Warren (Janice), Squamish, B.C.; Dennis, Mexico and Vancouver, B.C.; grandchildren, Danille, Ben and Chris Brubacher, Alberta; Rob Brubacher, Vancouver, B.C.;Jason Bruba cher, Squamish, B.C.; Seth Tupper, Coquitlam, B.C.; Rebecca Acheson, Prince George, B.C.; Michelle Rendina, Switzerland; Amber Manning, Pictou County; Brooke Langdon, cambridge, Ont.; and Heather Klatt, Alberta; six great-grandchildren; brothers, Lorne ( Vivyan), Russell (Barbara), Wayne (Sylvia), all of Kitchener, Ont.; sister, Evelyn (Ed) Mansz, Kitchener, Ont. His wife, the former Theresa Jubinville; daughter, Dianne Gusset, and sister, Ethel, predeceased him. Cremation has taken place. A memorial gat hering will be announced at a later date. Donations in memory of Howard may be made to the Victorian Order of Nurses or the Palliative care Society of Aberdeen Regional Hospital. The family would like to extend thanks to the VON, Dr. Farrell and the pall iative care staff for the care they extended to their father. Arrangements are under the direction of H.W.
