    Witmer. --- Isaiah B., son of Isaac Witmer and Leah Baer, was born March 16, 1874, in Wilmot Twp., Ont.; passed away suddenly Aug. 29, 1950; aged 76 y. 5 m. 13 d. June 20, 1894, he was united in marriage to Jemima Swartz. This union was blessed with 5 sons (Willard, Leslie, Joyce*, Homer, and Lincoln), and 4 daughters (Stella-Mrs. John Kehl, Lily-Mrs. Arthur Snyder, Etta-Mrs. Emanuel Swartzentruber, and Susie-Mrs. Ed Knechtel). He is also survived by 26 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren, 2 brothers (Wesley and Edmund), and 5 sisters (Emma-Mrs. William Spaetzel, Nancy-Mrs. Jacob Spaetzel, Tina-Mrs. Noah Otterbein, Rebecca-Mrs. Enoch Gingrich, and Sarah-Mrs. Sam Schmidt). He accepted Christ at the age of eighteen and was faithful to his Lord until death. In 1923 he was ordained to the office of deacon; he served faithfully for twenty-seven years. He was also a conference member of the Welfare Board. He delighted in studying God's Word. His kindly counsel and advice will be missed by his friends. Funeral services were held Sept. 1 at the Latschar Mennonite Church, Manheim, Ont., in charge of Oiah Horst, assisted by Moses Roth. Text: Matt. 24: 44.

    Witmer, Willard, son of Isaiah and Jemima (Swartz) Witmer, was born in Wilmot Twp., Ont., May 10, 1898; died at Stratford General Hospital, from cancer, Dec. 27, 1967; aged 69 y. 7 m. 17 d. On Mar. 31, 1920, he was married to Avon Snyder, who survives. Also surviving are 3 children (Gordon, Eileen-Mrs. Kenneth Reier, and Esther-Mrs. Ralph Holmberg), his mother, 4 brothers (Leslie, Joyce, Homer, and Lincoln), and 4 sisters (Stella-Mrs. John Kehl, Lilly-Mrs. Arthur Snider, Etta-Mrs. Emmanuel Swartzentruber, and Susie-Mrs. Edward Knechtel). He was a member of the Mannheim Church, where funeral services were held Dec. 30, with Gordon Bauman and Osiah Horst officiating.

    Former County Warden Witmer Dies In Hospital

    J. Willard Witmer, a former warden of Waterloo County, and former Reeve of Wilmot Township, died December 27 at Stratford Hospital after a brief Illness at the age of 69.

    The late Mr. Witmer farmed in Wilmot Township for many years and owned and operated Witmer's General Store in Baden for 18 years, retiring two years ago.

    He was active In Wilmot township politics, serving as reeve from 1954 to 1960 and was a member of Wilmot council for 14 years. He was warden of Waterloo County in 1955.

    Mr. Witmer was born May 10, 1898 in Wilmot, a son of Mrs. Isaiah Witmer of Kitchener and the late Mr. Witmer and was a life long resident of this area. He was a member of the Mannheim Mennonite Church and was a Sunday School teacher and a former member of the church council.

    Surviving besides his wife, the former Avon Snyder whom he married on March 31, 1920 in Waterloo Township, are his mother, who lives In Kitchener; one son, Gordon E., Kitchener; two daughters, Mrs. Kenneth (Eileen) Reier, RR1, New Dundee, and Mrs. Ralph (Esther) Holmberg, Waterloo; four brothers, Rev. Leslie, Baden; Joyce and Lincoln, both of Kitchener, and Homer, Bridgeport; four sisters, Mrs. John (Stella) Kelil, and Mrs. Emmanuel (Etta) Swartzentruber, both of Kitchener; Mrs. Arthur (LUy) Snyder, Baden, and Mrs. Edward (Susie) Knechtel, RR 2, Petersburg; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandson. He was predeceased by one son, Calvin and three grandchildren.

    The service was held at Mannheim Mennonite Church Saturday afternoon with Rev. Gordon Bauman officiating and burial followed in the adjoining cemetery. The Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home was In charge.

    Knechtel Sussanna Leah (Susie) - At Fairview Mennonite Home, Cambridge, on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 1998, Susie Knechtel (nee Witmer) age 93 years. Mrs. Knechtel was an active member of Mannheim Mennonite Church, the Sunday School and the WMS of the Church. Predeceased by her parents; her husband Edward (founder of Knechtel Wholesale Grocers) in 1975; four brothers Willard, Leslie, Homer and Lincoln Witmer; three sister Stella Kehl, Lilly Snyder and Etta Schwartzentruber. Loving mother of Cranson Knechtel and his wife Mary of Toronto, Martha Huber and her husband John of RR2, Petersburg; sister of Joyce Witmer and his wife Reta; sister-in-law of Edna Witmer all of Kitchener. Sadly missed by eight grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; daughter-in-law Doris Knechtel of Waterloo; many nieces and nephews. Friends and relatives may call at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home, 621 King St. W, Kitchener, today (Friday) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. There will be a private family interment at Mannheim Mennonite Cemetery on Saturday followed by a memorial service for relatives and friends at Fairview Mennonite Home Auditorium, 515 Langs Dr., Cambridge at 2 p.m. with Rev.     WITMER, Joyce Victor - Went home to be with His Lord, on Saturday, August 26, 2006 at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener. Joyce resided at Nithview Home, New Hamburg and was formerly of Kitchener. He was born in Waterloo Township, 98 years ago on August 11, 1908 a son of the late Isaiah and Jemima (Swartz) Witmer. Joyce was a founding and active member at Calvary Mennonite Church, Ayr. He had been a dairy farmer and a vendor at Kitchener Farmers Market for many years. Beloved husband of the late Laverne Shantz who predeceased him October 2, 1988. Loving father of Keith and Joy Witmer of RR3 Allenford, Dave and June Witmer of Shakespeare and Marlene and Bill Harvey of Kitchener. Sadly missed by grandchildren Brian and Denise Witmer, Judy and Grant Gibson, Robert Witmer, Greg and Judy Witmer, Wendy Brandon, Donna and Scott Snyder, Steve and Carolyn Witmer, Debra and Bruce Strong and Faye and Richard Gils; by great-grandchildren, Ashley, Travis, Kyle, Mason, Jakob, Michael, Matthew, Amanda, Tyler, Jessica, Leah, Kristy, Liam, Julia and great-great-granddaughter, Elexis. Friends and relatives may call at Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 291 Huron St., New Hamburg, today (Monday) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Mannheim Mennonite Church on Tuesday August 29, 2006 at 2 p.m. with Pastors Lloyd Oakey and Amsey Martin officiating. Burial to follow in the adjoining cemetery. As expressions of sympathy donations may be made to Calvary Mennonite Church, Nithview Home or the charity of ones choice. It is with heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Vernice, after a short, but courageous battle with cancer, on Tuesday, November 17th, 2020, at St. Mary's Hospital, in his 90th year. Beloved husband and best friend for over 66 years of Myrtle (Snyder)Snyder. Proud and devoted father to Duane Snyder(Marion), Gwen Snyder and Pam Townsend. Cherished great-grandfather to 10. Sadly missed by his sister-in-law, Betty Yantzi as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Vernice was born in Wilmot Township on July 2nd, 1931, son of the late Arthur and Lily (Witmer) Snyder. He was the last of his family, predeceased by his siblings. Vernice married the love of his life, Myrtle, on March 5th, 1955 and together they raised their three beautiful children in a home full of love and laughter. He owned and operated a trucking company for many years. Vernice also worked as a farmer, tour bus driver and was a helping hand to anyone in need. He was an honest, hardworking man who became an instant friend to anyone who was lucky enough to meet him. He loved a good joke and was known as a prankster extraordinaire. Vernice had a passsion for bowling, motorcycles, cars, antique tractors, but his greatest joy by far was his family, and their many trips to the cottage on Chesley Lake and Florida. He was a true family man and loyal friend who will be forever loved and missed.

    In keeping with Vernice's wishes, cremation has taken place. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a public celebration of Vernice's life will be announced by the family at a later date.     Kitchener, July 22 - Motoring to Au Gres, Michigan yesterday to attend the funeral of a brother, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Roth, of Baden, were reached as they prepared to cross the border at Sarnia and informed their son, Ernest, 21, had been killed with two friends in a railway crossing crash near their home. Today they arranged for the funeral of their young son. The other victims were Glen Schwartzentruber, 16, and Raymond Snyder, 11. All were Mennonites. The three were killed instantly when struck by a Canadian National Railways train in charge of Edward Milner, Toronto, conductor, and William Flint, Toronto, engineer, on a crossing leading to the Samuel Roth farm. They were returning from a field, where they had been dusting potatoes. Roth, who was married to the former Mildred Roth last September, also is survived by his parents, one brother, Calvin, and two sisters, Agness and Mrs. Rufus Bender, Baden. Schwartzentruber, a son of Mr. And Mrs. Simon Schwartzentruber, is survived by his parents, six brothers, Arthur, Nyle, Clare, Elverne, Simon and Waybe, and six sisters, Leona, Ellen, Erma, Rita, Ruth and Arlene, all at home. Snyder is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Snyder; a brother, Vernus, at hoem, and three sisters, Mrs. Pearl Bechtel, Mrs. Ethel Roth and Ruth Snyder, all of Baden.

    Snyder.-Ray, son of Arthur and Lilly (Witmer) Snyder, was born in Wilmot Twp., Waterloo Co., Ont., Jan. 13, 1936; died July 21, 1947; aged 11 y. 6 m. 8 d. He met his death along with Glen Schwartzentruber and Ernest Timothy Roth, in a railway crossing accident on the farm of Samuel S. Roth, near Baden, Ont. Surviving are his parents, one grandfather (Isaiah Witmer, Kitchener, Ont.), one brother (Vernus), 3 sisters (Pearl-Mrs. Delford Bechtel, Ethel-Mrs. Henry Roth, and Ruth, all of Baden, Ont.), and many other relatives and friends. He confessed Christ as his Saviour in a personal interview with James Martin. He was a bright and cheerful boy. Funeral services were held at the home, in charge of James Martin, followed by joint services at the Geiger Church, New Hamburg, Ont., in charge of James Martin, Osiah Horst, and Curtis Cressman. Burial was made in the adjoining cemetery, in a double grave.

    Calvin Witmer, 23, of Baden died last night at the K-W Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was an employee of Wilmot Township's works department. Mr. Witmer was born in Waterloo Township, April 2, 1929, son of Mr. and Mrs. Willard Witmer of Baden. His wife, the former Claudine Atto, survives. He was a member of Calvary Memorial Evangelical UB Church. Surviving, in addition to his parents and wife, are one brother, Gordon, RR 2, Kitchener, and two sisters, Mrs. Kenneth (Eileen) Reier of New Dundee and Mrs. Leonard (Esther) Kulack of Windsor. Eileen will be remembered for her quiet strength. She was kind, compassionate, giving of herself to her family, her friends and to those she met through a life of service in the Mennonite faith. Over her lifetime she developed a love for gardening, music, many crafts and travel. As a young woman, she played the piano and organ and sang in a quartet. When her daughters were young she led a local 4H girls club. Eileen enjoyed quilting and led the Mannheim Mennonite Church quilting group for many years in creating a new quilt each year for the Mennonite Relief Sale. In later years, she enjoyed travelling in North America and Europe with her husband Kenneth. She volunteered in the craft rooms at Nithview and Fairview retirement homes. She will be missed by her many friends at Mannheim Mennonite Church and at her retirement residence at Fairview Home in Cambridge. Many thanks to the staff at University Gates Long Term Care for their kind care and support. A Visitation and Memorial Service celebrating the life of Eileen will take place at Erb & Good Family Funeral Home , 171 King Street South, Waterloo on Saturday, May 6, 2017.     Elmer Weston Witmer died peacefully at Freeport Health Centre of Grand River Hospital, Thursday, October 27, 2005, age 71. Devoted husband and best friend of the late Monica Witmer (July 4, 2004). Loving father of Denise Witmer (Paul Panagapka), Danny (Christine) Witmer, Debbie (Mike) Gordon and Dana (Rob) Waters. Fun loving and cherished grandpa of Lacey and Christine McAllister, Isaac Panagapka, Tyler and Brittany Witmer, Cameron and Nicole Gordon and Mitch and Brody Waters. Elmer will be greatly missed by his mother Edna Witmer and by his brothers and sisters Darcy (Donna) Witmer, Ross (Evelyn) Witmer, Lynne (late Frank) Hoffman, and by Joe (Liz) Witmer. He will be sadly missed by his extended family and by his many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his father Lincoln Witmer. Elmer was the owner of Witmer's Garage in St. Jacobs for over 36 years.
