    LEIS, Ezra, son of Daniel and Magdalena (Erb) Leis, was born in Wellesley Twp., Ont., Oct. 25, 1897; died at his home in Wellesley, April 20, 1966; aged 68 y. 5 m. 26 d. On April 25, 1920, he was married to Elizabeth Wagler, who survives. Also surviving are 3 sons (Mahlon, Harold, and Herbert), 10 grandchildren, 2 brothers (Christian and Peter), and one sister (Sarah - Mrs. Aaron Jantzi). One brother and one sister predeceased him. He was a member of the Maple View Church, where memorial services were held April 24, with Alvin Leis and Steve Gerber in charge.

    Mahlon A. Leis

    LEIS, Mahlon A. - Mahlon Arthur Leis, 90, of Tavistock, passed away in the Maples Home for Seniors, Tavistock on Friday, February 15, 2013. He was born at Wellesley on December 13, 1922 a son of the late Ezra E. and Elizabeth (Wagler) Leis. Mahlon graduated from the Ontario Dairy College at Guelph in 1944 and following graduation was a Cheese Maker. He later owned and operated Tavistock Dairy for 25 years and then was an employee of Maple Lane Dairy. He was a faithful member of Tavistock Mennonite Church serving as Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent, Trustee, Elder and MYF Sponsor. Along with Marie and other friends he was co-founder of Hidden Acres Mennonite Camp. Mahlon was a former member of the Tavistock Volunteer Fire Department where he served as Fire Chief as well as Fire Chief of the Township of East Zorra. He was a faithful member of the Tavistock Men's Club where he was Past President and had served as Chairman of the Annual Sauerkraut Supper for many years. After his retirement from Maple Lane Dairy he was a high school bus driver for 10 years. Mahlon was the husband of the former Marie Kathryn Zehr whom he married on September 15, 1943; the father of Gerald "Jerry" Leis (deceased June 28, 1990), Robert "Bob" Leis (deceased August 22, 1997), Gloria and husband Bill Wettlaufer, Elaine and husband Jim Weicker, all of Tavistock; the Canadian father to Wilmer and Janet Martin of Waterloo; grandfather of Scott and Erika Wettlaufer, Angela Wettlaufer, Jeff and Miranda Weicker, Jamie and Jenn Weicker, Julie and Michael Hawkins, Jennifer Filmore, Kelly and Joel Harbin; Canadian grandparents to Janelle Martin, Alan and Christiane Martin; great grandfather of Emily and Joshua Wettlaufer, Morgan and Blake Weicker, Benjamin and Addison Weicker, Mia and Stella Hawkins, Chloee Filmore, Tye and Chase Wagner, Matthew and Miriam Martin; brother-in-law of Ruth Leis, Geraldine Leis, LaVone Gascho, Lorraine Boldt, Shirley and Carl Zehr, Iva Smith, Edward and Jean Zehr, Ken and Karen Zehr and Carol Satchell. Besides his parents and sons, he was predeceased by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Clara Zehr; his brothers Harold Leis and Herbert Leis; "Zehr" sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Anna Mae and Oscar Leis, Leola and Omar Wagler, Harold Zehr, Donald and Donna Zehr, John Gascho, Victor Boldt and Ross Smith. Relatives and friends were received in the Francis Funeral Home, 77 Woodstock St. N., Tavistock on Sunday. The funeral service was held in Tavistock Mennonite Church on Monday, February 18, 2013 at 2 p.m. The Rev. Paul Adams officiated. Spring interment in East Zorra Mennonite Cemetery, 16th Line.     LEIS, Harold A. \endash It is with heartfelt sorrow that the Leis family announces the sudden passing of their beloved HAL on Monday, March 22, 2010 while curling. Harold Alvin Leis was born in Wellesley 85 yrs ago and was the son of the late Ezra Leis and Elizabeth Wagler. Harold owned Leis Feed and Supply until he retired in 1989 and was a volunteer fireman for 45 yrs, 12 as fire chief. He was a man who lived out his faith in the community and his church. He was a founder and member of Wellesley Mennonite Church, Hidden Acres Mennonite Camp and Pond View Retirement Community. To the day of his death he was active in golf, curling and horseshoes and prior to retirement, hockey, soft ball, slow pitch and tennis. He loved to challenge his children and grandchildren in these activities as well as card games where he rarely lost. Beloved husband of Ruth (Steinmann) for 62 years. Loving father of Gary Leis (Brenda) of Wellesley, Ron Wasylycia-Leis (Judy) of Winnipeg, Judy Johnson of Saskatoon, Sandy Poole (George) of Wellesley, former son-in-law Tom Johnson and predeceased by infant son Larry Michael. Ever remembered by his 21 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Sadly missed brother of Mahlon Leis (Marie) of Tavistock and brother-in-law of Gerry Leis, Noreen Steinman both of Kitchener and his nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, brother Herb Leis, and brother-in-law Roy Steinman. He was Dad and Grandpa to more than just his immediate family and his strong, quiet leadership and love for all will be carried in the hearts of many. Visitation at Wellesley Mennonite Church, 157 David Street, Wellesley on Wednesday, March 24, 2010, 7-9 pm and Thursday March 25, 2010 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. Interment with immediate family at Rush's Cemetery, Friday March 25, 2010 followed by a service in Celebration of his Life at 3:30 pm at Steinmann Mennonite Church, 1316 Snyder Rd. W. Baden. Due to allergies, family is requesting no flowers. Donations in memory of Harold may be made to Hidden Acres Mennonite Camp or Wellesley Mennonite Church.     LEIS, Herbert "Herb" - At St. Mary's General Hospital, in Kitchener. after a very brief illness, on Monday. Dec. 29, 1997, age 70 years, of Kitchener.

    Beloved husband of Geri; dear father of Terry and his wife Jane of Kitchener and Patti of Waterloo. He is lovingly remembered by three grandchildren, Cory, Colin and Krista. Brother of Mahlon Leis and his wife Marie of Tavistock and Harold Leis and his wife Ruth of Wellesley. Herb is also remembered by his brothers and sisters-in-law In the Stumpf family and all of his nieces and nephews.

    He was predeceased by his parents, Elizabeth Wagler and Ezra Leis.

    Herb was a faithful and active member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Kitchener, He was retired from Schneiders where he worked for over 40 years. After retiring from Schneiders, he was employed by the Waterloo County Board of Education as a school bus driver. Herb was active in many sports and was a past member of the Schneider Male Chorus. Herb's family will receive friends at the Edward R. Good Funeral Home. 171 King Street South in Waterloo from 2-5 p.m. Wednesday and 2-4 p.m. Thursday. The funeral service will be held at St. Luke's Lutheran Church. 317 Franklin Street North in Kitchener on Friday at 11 a.m. with Rev. James Bindernaget officiating. Following the service, friends and relatives are invited to join the family at the church for lunch and a time to visit. Burial will follow later Friday afternoon at Rush's Cemetery, Wellesley.
