    Mr. A. Duench Passes Away

    Untimely and Sad Death of Well Known Young Tailor of City Was in his 32nd Year


    The many friends in this city of Albert Duench will be grieved to learn of his death which occurred at the home of his father-in-law, Jacob Scharlach, 111 Lancaster Street, Sunday evening at 7 o'clock. Deceased was a tailor and until compelled to retire owing to failing health had been employed at Bucknell's custom tailoring establishment. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and took an active interest in the work of the various societies of the church. About a week ago Mr. Duench was compelled to take to his bed and since that time his condition grew gradually worse until finally the end came yesterday evening. Deceased was born in Wellesley, 32 years ago, and was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Duench of that place. He is survived by his wife and three small children; also two brothers and one sister, John and Walter Duench and Mrs. August Kudoba, of this city. He is also survived by his father, Henry Duench, of Wellesley. Mr. Duench was a popular resident of the city and had a genial nature which endeared him to all with whom he came in contact. He was an exemplary father and husband and his death comes as a severe blow to his bereaved family. The funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the residence of Jacob Scharlach and later from St. Paul's Lutheran Church, where services will be held. Interment will be made in Mount Hope Cemetery.

    Mrs. Julia Kudoba

    A resident of Kitchener for more than 50 years, Mrs. Julia Kudoba, 73, of 100 Borden Ave. North, died today at the K-W Hospital after a brief illness.

    Mrs. Kudoba was born Aug. 21, 1885, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Duench of Wellesley. She was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church. Her husband, August Kudoba, whom she married in Kitchener in 1906, died March 26, 1953.

    Surviving are three daughters, Miss Florence Kudoba of Kitchener, Mrs. K. B. (Margaret) McTavish of Toronto, Mrs. K. A. (Marie) Stuebing of Winnipeg, and five grandchiIdren. Four brothers and one sister predeceased her.

    The body is at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home, until Friday at .11 .a.m. when removal will be made to Holy Cross Church where the funeral will he conducted at 2 p.m. by Rev. Lloyd Wentzlaff.

    John Duench

    An insurance salesman for Otto Smith and Company, Ltd., for 34 years, John H. (Jack) Duench, 64, of 78 Chestnut St., died today at his home after a long illness. Born in Wellesley, he was an active member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Kitchener. He taught in the Sunday school and was supervisor of the senior department for many years. He was a member of the IOOF and was on the executive of the 20th Cub Pack.

    1919 he married the former Goldie Hebel, who died in 1947. Surviving are one son, Garvin of Kitchener; two daughters, Mrs. Douglas (Phyllis) Trury, Galt and Mrs. Alfred (June) Lindsay, Kitchener; one sister, Mrs. August Kudoba, Kitchener; and seven grandchildren. A son, Floyd, died in 1945. The body is at the Schreiter Sandrock Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church Monday at 2 p.m. with burial in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Dr. John Schmieder. Friends are asked to pay their respects before the service.

    Walter G. Duench

    A grocer in Kitchener for 40 years. Walter G. Duench, 59, of 61 Ellen St. East, died early today at KW Hospital following a lengthy illness. Born Feb. 18, 1895, in Wellesley. he was a son of the late Henry Duench and Christine Forler.

    He started in the grocery business 40 years ago with August Kujdoba on Waterloo street in 1919 he opened a store at the Five Points. Frederick street. He retired last September.

    Prominent in Masonic circles, he was a member of the Grand River Lodge, AF and AM and of the Kitchener chapter. RAM. He served as principal of the latter lodge and was treasurer for 23 years. He was elected to the Grand Council of Anointed High Priests of Ontario.

    On Nov. 6, 1917, he married the former Elizabeth Arndt who survives. He was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church.

    Surviving besides his wife are a daughter, Mrs. William (Betty) Wolfe of Kitchener; a brother, John, and a sister, Mrs. August (Julia) Kudoba, both of Kitchener. One grandson also survives. Three brothers, Albert. William and Carl and one sister, Clara, predeceased him.

    The body is at the Schreiter Sandrock Funeral Home where the service will be conducted Monday at 3 pm. Burial will be in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery.

    In the absence of Rev. Dr. Schmieder, Rey, H. A. Baetz will officiate, assisted by Rev. F. G.. Stewart of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church.

    MARIE ELEANOR AINSWORTH 1909-2006

    Marie Eleanor Ainsworth (nee Duench) passed away on Monday, April 10, 2006 at the age of 97. Beloved wife of the late Herbert Ainsworth who predeceased her on April 4, 1965. Also predeceased by her parents, Albert and Eleanora Duench; brothers, Carl and wife Ethel Duench, Howard and wife Edith Duench; daughter, Ruth Hutchinson and niece, Susan Ward. Loving mother of Douglas (Claudia) Ainsworth of Brantford. Loving Nana of Julia, Christina and Alexander Ainsworth, Brenda Abate (Sabastian), and great-grandmother of Stacey and Anthony Abate. Loving aunt of Robert Duench (Pat), Judith Biesinger (Larry), Pat Pond, Cheryl Schnurr (Ray), Bill Duench and also survived by a number of great-nieces and nephews. After moving from Elmira to Waterloo in 1965, Marie became a faithful member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. She participated in the Ladies of Redeemer, the Tuesday morning quilting group and Tuesday with a Twist Supper and Bible study. She also enjoyed her membership with the Young at Heart as well as the Happy Gang of Historic St. Paul's Lutheran Church Kitchener. The family wishes to thank Pat Pond for the years of loving care she gave to Marie.

    Visitation will be held at the Edward R. Good Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Friday, April 14 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2006 at 11 a.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 78 John Street W., Waterloo with Rev. Robert Krestick officiating. Interment will be at Union Cemetery in Elmira.     Florence graduated from nursing at the Stratford Hospital in 1930. She was the Supervisor of Nurses for the Memorial Hospital in St. Thomas and the Industrial Nurse for Electrohome for many years. Until her retirement in 1973, she was the Director of Public Health Nursing for the Region of Waterloo. Florence was a very active and devoted member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church.

    Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held in the chapel of the Edward R. Good Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Wednesday, June 28,2000 at 1 p.m. Interment of cremated remains in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery following the service, Rev. John McTavish officiating.     Miss Kudoba Bride Of Mr. K. B. McTavish A wedding of interest in this city took place at the Avenue Road Presbyterian church, Toronto, at
    four o'clock this afternoon when Miss Marguerite L. Kudoba, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. August Kudoba, Samuel street, became the bride of
    Mr. Kenneth B. McTavish of Sudbury, son of Mr. and Mrs. L. A. McTavish of Toronto.


    Palms, peonies and orange blossoms graced the church for the love- ly late spring ceremony which was performed by Rev. A. R. Skinner. pastor of the church.

    The bridal party entered the church to the strains of bridal muste played by Miss E. McTavish, aunt of the bridegroom.

    The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, wore a gown of mousseline de soi trimmed with rows of fine lace forming a tight bodice. The skirt was bordered with lace forming a short train and the costume was completed with a shoulder-length veil. She carried o Colonial bouquet of white roses and lily of the valley.

    She was attended by her sister. Miss Florence Kudoba, gowhed in Marina blue embroidered lace over taffeta with halo hat and carrying a
    Colonial bouquet of yellow roses. Mr Stuart Ferguson of Sudbury was the best man and the ushers were Messrs. Norman Dotzenroth and Kenneth Stuebing of Kitchener.

    Following the ceremony a wed ding reception was arranged at the Alexandra Palace, Toronto. Only the immediate relatives of the young people were present. The bride and bridegroom were assisted in receiv ing by the bride's mother, wearing hyacinth blue chiffon with corsage of Talisman roses and corn flowers. and by the bridegroom's mother. wearing a blue lace gown with corsage of Sweetheart roses and baby's breath.

    Following the reception the bride and bridegroom left on a wedding- trip by motor, the bride wearing for travelling a cream serge suit with rolled turban and Chartreuse accessories.

    Upon their return they will take up residence in Sudbury.

Besides his parents, one brother, Robert, survives. The funeral will be held at 2: 30 o'clock Friday afternoon from Dreisinger's Funeral Chapel to the Elmira Cemetery for burial. Rev. F.     It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of Bob Duench. After a lengthy battle of dementia, Bob went peacefully home to be with the Lord and Saviour on Sunday, January 9, 2022 at Grand River Hospital at the age of 85.

    Beloved husband of Patricia Duench (nee McCarley), and loving father to his children Drina Kurschinski (Bob), Chris Duench (Wendy), Kelly Hamilton (Rob), Lisa Stephens (Rick). Cherished grandfather to Kellen, Kara, Stephanie, Taylor, Connor, Shanna and Lindsay. Very proud great-grandfather to Luke, Renee and Isabella. Bob will also be deeply missed by his much loved triplet sister, Judy Biesinger (Larry). And we can't forget his golden retriever fur baby \endash Dixie.

    Predeceased by his parents, Carl and Ethel (Ainsworth) Duench, infant brother Bruce, and triplet sisters Patricia Henrich (Pond) and Susan Ward.

    Bob was born and raised in Elmira where he grew up with triplet sisters, built the family home, and established his life career at B&L Metals, retiring in June 2000. Bob enjoyed many outdoor sports, particularly fishing, skiing and camping. Bob was truly a family man; he enjoyed many gatherings with family and friends for 52 years at "Bob's Bay" cottage in Southampton. Lake Huron was Bob's tranquility and peace, and you could often find him just watching the lake from his la-z-boy chair, with of course a dog in his lap.

    Cremation has taken place. A memorial visitation will be held on Friday, January 14, 2022 from 10 a.m. \endash 12:00 p.m. at the Dreisinger Funeral Home, 62 Arthur St. S., Elmira, with a funeral service taking place at 12 noon in the funeral home chapel.
