    INSTANTLY KILLED

    While making electrical connections at the top of a pole, Emerson Esch, an employee of the Berlin Light Commission, received 2,200 voltage and was killed instantly. The fatality occurred shortly after 10 o'clock this morning at the corner of Church and Queen Streets, in front of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Esch was on the top of the pole working on the wires, when suddenly his body stiffened, while the belt which helped support him to the pole, saved him from falling to the ground. When removed from the pole by fellow workman life was extinct. The exact manner in which he came in contact with the wires is not known. His left had was severely burned.


    Doctors Lackner and Towers reached the scene and after examination of the body pronounced death instaneous [sic]. The body was left in charge of the police with instructions to have it removed to the undertaking parlors. After a wait of three quarter of an hour, the ambulance arrived, when Undertaker Seibert took charge of the body.

    The victim of the accident is a married man 24 years old with a family of one child, residing on Cedar Street North. He is a son of Mr. Christian Esch, of Elmira and had been in the employee of the Commission for three years.- Berlin News Record.

    The funeral will be held from his fathers residence about half a mile west of Elmira on Friday, August 11th at 2 p.m.

    WEBER, Eileen. Viola (nee Esch) Eileen passed away, at St. Andrews Terrace, Cambridge, on Sunday, Dec. 18, 2005, at the age of 95, formerly of Kitchener. Predeceased by her beloved husband Earl A. Weber (1990) and her son Dr. Jon N. Weber, formerly of State College, PA (1976). Eileen will be sadly missed by her daughter, Judith (Judy) and her husband Paul Thomas of Waterloo; her son, Jeremy (Jerry) Weber of Cambridge; her grandsons, Duncan Weber of Seattle, WA, Dr. Alan Weber of Ithica, NY, Sean Thomas and his wife Laurie of Waterloo and Cameron (Cam) Thomas and his wife Sarah of Baden; her great-grandchildren, William, Connor and Ella and her daughter-in-law, Patricia Weber of State College, PA. Eileen was affiliated with several organizations such as the 11th Kitchener Scout Mothers, Westmount Home and School, King Edward Home and School, Waterloo Seminary, K-W Garden Club and YMCA. She was also a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church and the Patricia Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. As requested, a private funeral service and burial will take place and be officiated by Rev. Albert Lorch
