    Notes:

    Mrs. John Melvin - The death occurred in Toronto early Monday morning of Minnie Whitson, widow of the late John Melvin of Galt. A daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Whitson of Ayr, she spent the greater part of her life in Galt, removing to Toronto following the death of her husband. Surviving is a daughter, Mrs. D. E. Bastedo (Ina) of Toronto. Funeral service was held Tuesday evening at the Ryan and Odette Funeral Home, Toronto, interment being made in Ayr Cemetery upon arrival of the Wednesday morning train.

    Notes:

    Death of Mary Ellen Whitson - The sudden death occurred at her home here on Sunday evening at 7.15 o'clock of Mary Ellen Whitson, in her 66th year. Miss Whitson had prepared and eaten supper with her brother, Edward, when she was seized with a stroke about 6.30 o'clock, from which death resulted within the hour. Deceased had been in poor health for several months during the past winter, but her condition had shown much improvement in recent months. Born in Greenfield, deceased had lived the whole of her lifetime in this community, with the exception of three years in Vancouver and two years in Hamilton. She was the second daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Whitson, one of the early families of the village, and was highly esteemed by a wide circle of friends, who will regret to learn of her demise. Miss Whitson attended Knox United Church, and she is survived by two sisters and one brother, viz.: Mrs. John Melvin, Galt; Mrs. J. C. Kyle and Edward Whitson, Ayr. Two nieces and a nephew also survive. There was a large attendance at the funeral, which took place on Tuesday afternoon to Ayr Cemetery. Rev. J. W. Currie was in charge of the services, and the pallbearers were: Wm. Manson, A. G. Watson, G. S. Dalrymple, W. E. Gammon, J. W. Currie and Thomas Easton.

    Notes:

    James Edward Whitson Dies

    Following a protracted period of ill health, James Edward Whitson, a lifelong resident of this village, was removed by death at his home on Stanley Street on Sunday evening. He was in his 75th year.

    The late Mr. Whitson was born in Ayr in the house now occupied by Harold Charles, St. Andrews Avenue, a son of Thomas Whitson and Elizabeth Gladstone. A carpenter by trade, Mr. Whitson was employed in the carpenter shop of the John Watson Mfg. Co. Ltd., for nearly half a century - many years as foreman - before retiring in 1947.

    He was an enthusiastic supporter of sports in Ayr, and was an active member of the Ayr Curling Club for many years. In recognition of his lengthy membership, he was made a life member of the club. In later years, Mr. Whitson was a regular attendant at softball games in Victoria Park during the summer months.

    By faith, Mr. Whitson was an adherent of the Presbyterian Church. He was a long-term member of both the Masonic and Odd Fellows lodges.

    Surviving, besides his wife, the former Betsy Belle Wilson, is one sister, Mrs. John C. Kyle (Florence) of Ayr.

    The funeral took place from his late residence, Stanley Street, this (Wednesday) afternoon, with interment in Ayr Cemetery. Rev. W. J. McKeown conducted the last rites.

    Masonic Service

    A Masonic service was conducted at the residence on Tuesday evening under the direction of Wor. Bro. R. L. Anderson, with a large body of members of Ayr lodge in attendance.

    Members of Dolman Lodge, I.O.O.F., also attended in a body to pay last respects to a former valued member.

    David C. Kyle

    David Cullen Kyle of 515 Fangs Drive, Preston. passed away at Cambridge Memorial Hospital, on Monday. February 17th. He was 76. Born in Ayr on August 7, 1915, he was a son of the late John C. Kyle and Florence Whitson. Mr. Kyle received his education in Ayr. worked at the John Watson factory as a painter, and was a fine softball player with the old Ayr Vics teams. Mr. Kyle served with the army during World War II. Upon his return he moved to Preston and was self employeed as an egg and poultry dealer. He retired eleven years ago. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church. Preston: member of the I 0.0.F. Lodge in Ayr. and later transferred to Cambridge No 188 when Ayr Lodge closed: was very active in events at Fairview Mennonite Centre. Preston. Surviving are his wile, the former Elizabeth Frosch: a daughter Mrs. Ed (Nancy) Laverty of Peterborough: grandsons Justin and Kyle. an a sister Betty Kyle Resting at the Barthel Funeral Home Preston today (Wed ) from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m . An I.O.O.F. memorial service will he held at the funeral home at 7 p.m this evening. Funeral service will he held at St. Paul's United Church. King Street. Preston, on Thursday at 2 p m Interment Ayr Cemetery.

    KYLE, Elizabeth Gladstone (Betty) - Of Cambridge, on Sunday, August 27, 2006, at MacMaster Hospital Hamilton, in her 86th year. Beloved daughter of the late John and Florence (Whitson) Kyle. Loving sister of the late David and Elizabeth Kyle. Also survived by her niece, Nancy and Ed Laverty and their family Justin (Lindsay) and Kyle (Jenni). Miss Kyle was born in Ayr and had been a lifelong resident of the area. She was a retired nurse and very active in the Fairview Centre Community. Known as a generous, caring person who didn't hesitate to give her opinion of things, she also enjoyed knitting, the craft Sale and outings with her friends. She was always on the go. Friends will be received at Barthel Funeral Home, 566 Queenston Rd., Cambridge, Thursday 7-8: 30 p.m. The Funeral and Committal Service will be conducted at Fairview Centre Auditorium, 515 Langs Dr., Cambridge, Friday. Sept 1, 2006 at 11 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to service. Rev. John Anderson officiating. Interment in the family plot in Ayr Cemetery.
