    Elo Snyder, 69, of RR 1, Breslau (Bloomingdale), died Monday of a heart attack following a brief illness.

    He died on the farm on which he was born Sept. 2, 1895. He was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Snyder. He farmed in the Bloomingdale area his entire life. He attended the Kitchener market for 43 years where he operated a meal counter.

    He was a member of the Bloomingdale Mennonite Church and a former trustee of the church. He was cemetery supervisor for many years. His wife, the former Susanna Martin, predeceased him in December, 1961.

    Survivors include three sons, Amos and Paul of RR 1, Breslau, and Floyd, at home, three daughters, Salome of Toronto, Ina, at home, and Edith of Elldhart, Ind.; three brothers, Austin of RR 3, Waterloo, Roy of RR 1,Millbank, and Orland of Elmira. One foster sister, Mrs. Adeline Bauman, predeceased him.

    There are nine grandchildren.

    The body rested at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home from noon Tuesday until noon Wednesday when removal was made to the home at RR 1, Breslau. Removal will be made at noon Thursday to Bloomingdale Mennonite Church for service at 3 pm. Rev. Harold Groh and Rev. John Snyder will officiate.

    Interment will be n the adjoining cemetery.

    September 23, 1925 - June 9, 2024

    Peacefully passed away on Sunday, June 9, 2024 at Barnswallow Place, Elmira at the age of 98 years.

    Beloved wife of the late Eldon H. Martin (2009). With many memories, Mom and Grandma Ina will be forever lovingly remembered by her daughter Karen and Gene Zdebiak; grandchildren Zach Zdebiak, Monica (Chris) Martin, Marsha (Brandon) Merritt, Logan Zdebiak, Jenna Zdebiak; great-grandchildren Chase (Naomi) Zdebiak, Jazlyn, Carson and Cash Martin, Riley Zdebiak and Ayden Merritt; and great-great-grandsons Trevor Zdebiak, and Benjamin Zdebiak. She is fondly remembered by her brother Paul (Martha) Snyder, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Ron (Jill) Martin, Ruby Martin, Angus Martin, and Lorne Martin. Many nieces, nephews and their families will miss Aunt Ina!

    Predeceased by her parents Elo and Susannah (Martin) Snyder, son Gerald Martin (2022), granddaughter Gypsy Sulz-Zdebiak (2010), grandson-in-law Trevor Sulz (2007), brothers Amos (Naomi) Snyder, Floyd (Sylvia) Snyder, sisters Edith (Harry) Pekarek, Salome (Leslie) Harrison, brother-in-law Albert Martin, sisters-in-law Florence Martin and Melba Martin.

    Ina was employed for many years in various Mennonite Church organizations before she married and moved to the farm north of Elmira with her husband Eldon, where they worked hard and enjoyed life. They traveled a lot and saw many places and visited family often in Alberta and BC. Ina would say with a smile, "Life is good, my blessings have been abundant, and always, I love you. Bye for now."

    Cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 18, 2024 in Elmira Mennonite Cemetery, 58 Church St. W., Elmira. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at Elmira Mennonite Church with a reception and sharing of memories to follow. The service will be livestreamed and will be available on Ina's tribute page of the funeral home website.

Floyd was predeceased by his loving wife of 47 years, Sylvia (nee Douglas) on February 26, 2017. Dear father of Dale Snyder (Sandy) of Cambridge, Mark Snyder (Emmy) of Guelph, and Grant Snyder (Mike) of Nanaimo, B.C. Loving grandfather of Sophia Snyder. Fondly remembered by his sisters Salome Harrison, Ina Martin, Edith Pekarek, brother Paul Snyder (Martha), and sister-in-law Diane Cressman. The family will receive their friends and relatives at the Dreisinger Funeral Home , Elmira on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. At 9 a.m. on Friday, July 18, 2008, transfer will be made to the Bloomingdale Mennonite Church for Funeral Service at 11 a.m. with Pastor Mary Mae Schwartzentruber officiating followed by interment in the Bloomingdale Mennonite Cemetery. In his memory, donations to The Bloomingdale Mennonite Church Building Fund, St. Mary's Hospital Cardiac Care Unit or Mennonite Central Committee would be appreciated by the family as expressions of sympathy.1a

    Beloved wife of the late S. Leslie Harrison (1997). Dear sister of Ina Martin of Elmira and Paul and Martha Snyder of Cambridge. Salome is lovingly remembered by her nieces, nephews and their families.

    Salome spent most of her life in Scarborough until moving back to the Cambridge area in 2017.

    Edith Pekarek, 92, of West Lafayette, IN, and a longtime resident of Prospect Heights, IL, passed away on May 14, 2023, in West Lafayette, IN. Edith was born on June 23, 1930, on her family's farm near Bloomingdale, Ontario Canada to Elo and Susannah Snyder. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Goshen College, opening the door to a 40-year career, including nearly 20 years at Glenbrook Hospital. She was an avid quilter and gardener, and devoted much of her time to serving several local churches and community organizations. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Pekarek; her parents; and her brothers, Amos and Floyd Snyder. She is survived by her sisters, Salome and Ina Snyder of Elmira, Ontario, and a brother, Paul (Martha) Snyder of Cambridge, Ontario; her sons, Steve (Lori) Pekarek of West Lafayette, IN and James (Tracy) Pekarek of Edina, MN; and four grandchildren, Benjamin, Hannah, Madeline, Matthew. A memorial service will be held at Christ Community Mennonite Church, Schaumburg, IL at 11:00 am on June 17, 2023. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mennonite Central Committee, Great Lakes Region, Goshen, IN (mcc.org).
