BERLET'S CORNER
Sad Death.
The death took place last Monday morning, Sept. 21, at 8.15, of Nicholas Steckly in his 62nd year.
The deceased had been in failing health of late and was operated upon for appendicitis about 8 days before his death. He made satisfactory progress towards recovery following the operation, but during the operations was discovered that he was in poorer shape than known. He had a weak heart and poor kidneys. The Sunday before his death a sudden change for the worse became evident and the following morning an internal hemorrhage developed and upon which he suffocated.
He was born in Mornington, Tp. Perth county near Milverton, in 1870. In 1893 he was married to Kate Jantzi of this place where they farmed all their time.
He was a well known and progressive farmer and took an active part in many local community affairs.
There mourn his loss the sorrowing widow, three brothers, namely, Solomon, Peter and David residing near Milverton, two sisters, Mrs. Christian Jantzi and Mrs. Susan Steckly near Gadshill. Of his children there are four daughters, (Mattie) Mrs. Aaron Kipfer near Milverton, Sarah Mrs. Rudy Jantzi near Wellesley, (Nancy) Mrs. Amos Zehr near Crosshill, and Elizabeth at home. Two daughters predeceased him, namely, Mary and Katie, in their school years. There also survive, four sons, Peter of Lockport, N. Y., Aaron, Ezra and Amos at home.
The funeral took place on Wednesday at 9.30 a.m. when the services were conducted at the house where over four hundred attended. Interment was made at the Amish Settlement cemetery at Berlet's Corner.

He accepted Christ as his Saviour and was received into church fellowship upon confession of faith by Bishop J. M. Bender, Oct. 7, 1908, in the East Zorra A. M. congregation, in which faith he died. On Oct. 8, 1908, he was united in matrimony to Lydia Erb of Oxford Co., Ont. This union was blest with 2 sons and 3 daughters (Harvey of Tavistock; Elmer of Perth Co., Adeline, Mrs. Joel Stiri, of Perth; Katie, Mrs. Josiah Roth, of Oxford; Lucinda, Mrs. Irvin Stiri, of Oxford). LEBOLD, Mrs. Christian
WELLESLEY-Mrs. Christian Lebold, of Wellesley died at her home Sunday after a lengthy illness. She was 81.
Born in Ellice Township, she was the former Elizabeth Albright, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Albright.
Mrs. Lebold had lived in Wellesley for 11 years and was a member of the Maple View Mennonite Church.
She was predeceased by her husband in 1961 and by two sons, three brothers and three sisters.
Surviving are five sons, Erven and Edward, both of Wellesley, John of New Hamburg, Alvin of Tavistock and Lloyd of Waterloo; six daughters, Mrs. Harvey (Mary Ann) Leis of Chesley, Mrs. Elmer (Barbara) Boshart of Haysville, Mrs. Kenneth (Clara) Roth of Elmira, Mrs. Levi (Laurene) Kuepfer of Newton, Mrs. Aaron (Ruth) Kuepfer of RR 2, Wellesley and Freda of Wellesley; two brothers, Christian and Menno, both of New Dundee; two sisters Mrs. Daniel R (Nancy) Erb of RR 1, Millbank and Mrs. Ezra (Mattie) Boshart of Milverton; 66 grandchildren and 49 great-grandchildren.
The body will be at the Futher Bros. Funeral Home until noon Wednesday when removal will be made to the Maple View Mennonite Church for service at 2:30 p.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Donations to the Western Ontario Mennonite Missions board will be accepted as expressions of sympathy.

On Friday, June 13, 1980, at her home, Magdelena Kuepfer (Steckly) of RR 1, Newton, age 81 years. She was a member of the Old Order Amish Mennonite Church.
Wife of Aaron W. Kuepfer; mother of Lorne, Ezra and Mrs. Laura Carter, all of RR 1, Newton. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ezra Steckly and Amos Steckly, both of Wellesley and two sisters, Nancy (Mrs. Amos Zehr) of RR 3, Wellesley and Elizabeth (Mrs. Emmanuel Gerber) of RR 1, Millbank. She was predeceased by her parents the late Nicholas Steckly and the former Catherine Jantzi, two brothers, three sisters and one grandson.
The late Mrs. Kuepfer will be resting at the home of her son, Lorne Kuepfer, Lot 8, Con. 9, Mornington township, RR 1, Newton, after 7 p.m. (DST), Saturday, June 14, 1980, until Monday, June 16, where service will be held at 1 p.m. (dst), with Bishop Rufus Kuepfer officiating. Interment to follow in the 7th Line Amish Mennonite cemetery, Mornington township.

WELLESLEY - Mrs. Rudy Jantzi died suddenly at her home at RR 1, Wellesley, Tuesday night after suffering a heart attack. She was 59.
Mrs. Jantzi was the former Sarah Steckly and was born in Wilmot Township, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Steckly. A member of Cedar Grove Amish Mennonite Church, Wellesley, she had lived with her husband on a Wilmot Township farm since their marriage Jan. 15, 1931.
Surviving are her husband; three sons, Melvin and Jacob of RR 1, Wellesley, and Murray, at home; three daughters, Mrs. John (Ella Mae) Wagler of RR 1, Wellesley, Mrs. Mahlon (Mary) Gerber of RR 1, Millbank, and Alice at home; three brothers, Aaron of RR 1, Wellesley, Ezra of RR 1, Bamburg, and Amos of Wellesley; three sisters, Mrs. Aaron (Mattie) Kuepfer of RR 1, Newton, Mrs. Amos (Nancy) Zehr of RR 1, Bamburg, and Mrs. Emanuel (Elizabeth) Gerber of RR 1, Millbank, and 12 grandchildren. She was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters.
The body will be at the family home after 8 p.m. today. A family service will be held at the home at 1 p.m. Saturday, followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. at Cedar Grove Amish Mennonite Church. Bishop Samuel Roth will officiate. Burial will be in the cemetery adjoining the church.

LEBOLD, Elmer

BADEN-Elmer Lebold, 56, of RR 2, Baden, died Thursday at home after a heart attack.
Son of Mrs. Christian Lebold of Wellesley and the late Christian Lebold, he was born at Wellesley and lived in New Hamburg before moving to the farm 19 years ago. He was a member of Steinman Mennonite Church.
Surviving are his wife, the former Katie Leis whom he married in 1929; three sons, Ralph of London, Ont. and Harold and Clare at home; two daughters, Mrs. Delford (Grace) Zehr and Mrs. Clare (Marie) Jantzi of London; five brothers, Ervin of Baden, Edward of Wellesley, John of New Hamburg, Alvin of Hawkesville, Lloyd of Kitchener; six sisters, Mrs. Harvey (Mary Ann) Leis of Thessalon, Mrs. Elmer (Barbara) Boshart of Haysville, Mrs. Kenneth (Clara) Roth of Elmira, Freida of Wellesley, Mrs. Levi (Loreen) Kuepfer of Newton, Mrs. Aaron (Ruth) Kuepfer of RR 2, Wellesley, and five grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son and a brother.
The body will be at the Bruce J. Omand Funeral Home, New Hamburg, until noon Sunday. The service will be conducted at the Steinman Mennonite Church Sunday at 2:30 p.m. by Bishop Orland Gingerich. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Contributions to the Mennonite Mission Board will be accepted as expressions of sympathy.

Beloved wife of the late Emmanuel Carter, who predeceased her March 30, 1977. Lovingly remembered by her children, John, David and his wife Delphine, Daniel and his wife Kathy, all of RR 1, Newton, Ruth Ann of Newton; sadly missed by six grandchildren, Jeff, Jason, Tim, Dennis, Christina and Teresa, two brothers, Lorne Kuepfer and his wife Sarah and Ezra S. She was a member of Cedar Grove Amish Mennonite Church, Wellesley.
Surviving are three brothers, Melvin, Jacob and Murray, all of RR 1,Wellesley; two sisters, Mrs. John (Ella Mae) Wagler of RR 1, Wellesley and Mrs. Mahlon (Mary) Gerber of RR 1, Millbank.
The body will be at the residence after 7: 30 p.m. today. A family service will be held at the home Thursday at 1 p.m., followed by a memorial service at Cedar Grove Church at 2 p.m. Bishop Sam Roth of Wellesley will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

PEREZ, Elaine (nee Steckley) Of Devon, Alberta, passed away in hospital on September 15, 2012, at the age of 63. She was formerly of Kitchener and of Wellesley, Ontario. Beloved wife of Manuel Perez and dear mother of Natalie Perez of Devon. Predeceased by her parents Amos and Esther Steckley, and stepmother Emma Steckley. Remembered by her brother Ralph and Maryann Steckley of Wellesley. Stepsisters and brothers Doris and the late Wayne Dotzert of Wellesley, Raymond and the late Deborah Gerber of R.R. #1, Brunner, Mary Ellen and Arnold Yantzi of R.R. #1, Milverton, Lynda and Wesley Kuepfer of Milverton. A memorial service will be held on September 25th at the Alliance Church, Devon, Alberta. Cremation has taken place. Peacefully, at this residence, on Saturday, Feb 1, 1997, Clarence Kuepfer, of RR 1, Elmwood.
Clarence was born in Elma township 61 years ago, a son of Clara (Steckly) of RR 1, Elmwood and the late Solomon H. Kuepfer (1993). He was formerly of RR 1, Newton and was a bishop in the Old Order Amish Faith.
Beloved husband of Sarah (Kuepfer) whom he married October 16, 1958. Loving father of Elizabeth and her husband Alvin Albrecht of RR 1, Milverton, Andy and his wife Edna, Clara and John, all of RR 1, Elmwood. Also remembered by seven grandchildren. He will be remembered by his brothers and sisters, Matilda and Reuben Albrecht of RR 1, Millbank, Peter and Lydia Kuepfer of RR 4, Harriston, Mabel and Delmar Albrecht of RR 1, Newton, Ivan and Dorothy Kuepfer of RR 1, Chesley, Philip and Tena Kuepfer of RR 1, Desboro, Phoebe and Aaron Kuepfer of RR 2, Milverton. Clarence was predeceased by two sons, Joseph and Jacob and a grandson, Marlin.
Friends and relatives may call at his daughter's residence, Elizabeth and Alvin Albrecht, RR 1, Milverton until Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m., when transfer will be made to his home at RR 1, Elmwood, for visitation from 1-9p.m. Wednesday morning transfer will be made to Peter Kuepfer's residence, RR 4, Harriston (2.5 miles north of Harriston on Hwy 9) for the service at 9:30 a.m., with Bishop Levi Streicher officiating. Burial to follow in Lakelet cemetery, Howick township.
