John Mayer
John R. Mayer, 78, died last evening at his residence, 71 Water St. S., following a brief illness. He was born Oct. 4, 1868, at Baden, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joel Mayer. He had been yard foreman at the Hall Planing Mill for 25 yards. Mr. Mayer was a member of St. Agatha A. M. Church. His wife, Mary Schade, died ten years ago.
Surviving are a son, Earl C. Mayer of Kitchener, a brother, Mose Mayer of St. Agatha, and one grand- daughter.
The funeral will be held Sunday from his late residence at 1:30 p.m. to St. Agatha A.M. Church for service at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Peter Nafziger officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery. Remains will rest at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home until 7 p.m. this evening when removal will be made to his home

TAVISTOCK Jan. 13.-Seriously ill for the last three weeks, although in failing health for two years, Mrs. Christian L. Erb, 68, died Sunday afternoon at her home in Sebastopol. Prior to her marriage in December, 1924, she was Mary Moyer, a native of Wilmot township and a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joel Moyer. She was a member of East Zorra Amish-Mennonite church. Deceased was born Jan. 29, 1872.
In addition to her husband there, survive four step-sons, Clarence of South Easthope, Curtis and Elton of Tavistock and Lloyd at home, three step-daughters, Mrs. Peter Bender of East Zorra, Mrs. Norman Baechler of Stratford and Mrs. Elgin Roth at home, two brother, John Moyer of Kitchener and Moses Moyer of St. Agatha, a sister, Miss Sarah Moyer of Kitchener and 14 grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held Thursday at 9: 30 a.m. at her residence followed by a memorial service at East Zorra Amish-Mennonite church on the 16th line. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery. Bishop Daniel Iutzi will officiate.

Moses Mayer
ST. AGATHA - A lengthy illness ended in death for Moses Mayer, 79, early today at his home in St. Agatha. He was a retiree farmer.
Mr. Mayer was born May 25, 1872 at Baden, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joel Mayer. His wife, the former Rachel Lichti, whom he married April 2, 1901 at St. Agatha survives. He was a member of St. Agatha Amish Mennonite Church. Surviving are five sons, Elmer of Kitchener, Clarence of Lowville. N.Y.; Allen and Edgar of St. Agatha and William of Tavistock: four daughters, Mrs. Simon (Adeline) Gingrich of Lowville, Mrs. Jerry (Elmina) Wismer of Bright Mrs. Elmer (Mabel) Striecher of Tavistock and Mrs. William (Viola) Gingrich of Kitchener; 26 grand- children and three great-grand- children. One son, Aaron, died in 1911.
Mr. Mayer was the last surviving member of the Joel Mayer family.
The body will be at the Ratz- Bechtel Funeral Home until noon Thursday when removal will be made to his home in St. Agatha. A private funeral will be held at the home Saturday at 2 p.m., followed by services at St. Agatha AM Church at 2:30 p.m. Rev. Peter Nafziger will officiate.
Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery.

On June 23, 1926, he was married to Catharine Everatt, who died on Jan. 10, 1978. Surviving are one son (Cecil), 2 grandchildren, 2 brothers (Clarence and William), and 4 sisters (Adeline-Mrs. Simon Gingerich, Elmina-Mrs. Jerry Wismer, Mabel-Mrs. Elmer Streicher, and Viola-Mrs. William Gingerich). He was preceded in death by 3 brothers (Aaron, Allen, and Edgar). He was a member of St. Agatha Mennonite Church, where funeral services were held on May 15, in charge of Nelson Martin and Elmer Schwartzentruber; interment in St. Agatha Mennonite Cemetery.

Mayer, Elmer-On Saturday, May 12, 1979, at St. Mary's Hospital, Elmer Mayer, age 77 years, of Nithview, New Hamburg.
Survived by his son, Cecil of Hanover; his two grandchildren, Timothy, at home, and Kathryn of Exeter; his four sisters and two brothers: Adeline (Mrs. Simon Gingerich) and Clarence Mayer, both of Lowville, N.Y., Elmina (Mrs. Jerry Wismer) of New Hamburg, Mabel (Mrs. Elmer Streicher) of Tavistock, William Mayer of New Hamburg and Viola (Mrs. William Gingerich) of Kitchener.
Predeceased by his wife, the former Catherine Everatt on January 10, 1978; three brothers, Aaron, Allen and Edgar; his father, Moses Mayer and his mother, the former Rachel Lichti.
He was a lifelong member of St. Agatha Mennonite Church.
Friends may call at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home, 621 King St. W., Kitchener, until noon on Tuesday; then at St. Agatha Mennonite Church for the funeral service on Tuesday, at 2:30 p.m. Rev. Nelson Martin will conduct the service. Interment will be made in the adjoining cemetery.

Surviving Mrs. Gingerich are a son and daughter-in law, Simon and Diane Gingerich of Castorland, NY; three daughters and a son-in-law, Geraldine and Clifford Zehr of Copenhagen, NY; Mary Ellen Roggie of Carthage, NY; and Kathleen Gingerich of Carthage, NY; two sisters Elmina Wismer and Savira Viola Gingerich both of Mew Hamburg, Ontario, Canada, 22 grandchildren 67 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. She is predeceased by a grandson, Keith L. Zehr, and three great grandchildren, Devon and Celeste Moshier, and Alissa Zehr; six brothers, Elmer, Aaron, Clarence, Allen, William, and Edgar Mayer, and a sister, Mabel Stricher.
Born in St, Agatha, Ontario Canada, on August 10th, 1906, the daughter of Moses and Rachel Lickti Mayer, she attended school in St. Agatha, Ontario, She came to the United States to seek employment in 1926 as a domestic housekeeper. She married Simon Gingerich Sr. on October 3rd, 1928 at the Lowville Mennonite Church with Rev. Christian Nafziger, Pastor, officiating. She and her husband purchased a dairy farm on the Vary Road in the Town of Harrisburg in 1933. They sold the farm to their son Simon in 1953.
Mr. Gingerich died on April 5, 1998. After her marriage she worked on two dairy farms; one for
John Widrick arid the other for Mrs. Henry 0. Weller. She also worked for Earl Stanton and Earl Barnes families as a domestic housekeeper after her husband's death, and she continued to work for various families in the area as a housekeeper until her retirement.
She was a member of the Naumburg Mennonite Church, Naumburg, NY. For many years she was active in the Lowville Mennonite Sewing Circle, and she also served on many committees for the Mennonite Church. She also enjoyed most kinds of needlework and quilting. She especially loved gardening and the outdoors.

MAYER, William (Bill) -- Suddenly, on Wednesday, Oct 23, 1985, at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener, Bill Mayer, of RR 1, New Hamburg, age 68 years. He was born in St. Agatha, son of the late Moses Mayer and the former Rachael Lichti. He was a member of the Steinman Mennonite Church, RR 2 Baden. Bill enjoyed children and was father to 52 foster boys over a 14 year period. Beloved husband of Ruth Gingerich, whom he married February 27, 1945. Lovingly remembered by his children, Don of RR 1, New Hamburg, Joe and his wife Barbara of RR 2, New Hamburg and Sharon of Waterloo. Sadly missed by his grandchildren, Jeff and Andrea. Edgar Mayer, 43, of Heidelberg died Tuesday, April 16th, at K-W Hospital after suffering a heart attack while working at Canada Barrels and Kegs Ltd., Waterloo, earlier in the day. He was born in St. Agatha, August. 28, 1919, a son of Mrs. Moses Mayer and the late Mr. Mayer. He was a member of St. Agatha Amish Mennonite Church and had lived in Heidelberg for the past 10 years. Besides his mother, Mr. Mayer is survived by his wife, the former Dorothy Bast, whom he married in Baden May 10th, 1941; four sons, Arnold, Robert, Leonard and Roger, all at home; one daughter Linda, also at home; three brothers, Elmer of Kitchener, Clarence of Lowville, N.Y., and William of New Hamburg; and four sisters, Mrs. Adeline Gingerich, of Lowville, Mrs. Jerry (Elmina) Wismer of Bright, Mrs. Elmer (Mabel) Streicher of Tavistock and Mrs. William (Viola) Gingerich of Kitchener. He was predeceased by one daughter and two brothers. The body rested at the residence until noon Friday when removal was made to St. Agatha Amish Mennonite Church for a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Elmer Schwartzentruber officiated assisted by Bishop Orland Gingerich. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery.

CLARENCE ERB
Clarence Erb, 118 Avondale Ave., Stratford died Monday in Stratford Hospital. He was 65. Born in East Zorra Township, he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Christian Erb, he had lived in South Easthope Township and Sebringville before coming here six years ago. He was a member of Tavistock Mennonite Church and had been a carpenter by trade. Mr. Erb was predeceased by two sisters. Surviving besides his wife, the former Leah Luella Boshart, are one son, James of Stratford; three daughters, Mrs. Russell (Shirley) Marlow of Stratford, Mrs. Keith (Norma) Cardiff of Tavistock and Mrs. Alan (Diane) Fuller of St. Thomas; three brothers, Curtis of Stratford, Elton and Lloyd both of Tavistock; two sisters, Mrs. Peter (Lavina) Bender of Tavistock, Mrs. Elgin (Violet) Roth of Milverton and nine grandchildren. Funeral services were held Thursday from Tavistock Mennonite Church with Rev. Wilmer Martin and Bishop Henry Yantzi officiating. Burial is in the East Zorra Mennonite cemetery on the 16th line. CARGILL - Charles Mayer of Cargill died suddenly at home Saturday. He was 17.
Born in Kitchener, he was a son of Earl Mayer and the former Martha Bender.
The family moved here from Kitchener eight years ago.
He was a Grade 12 student at the Walkerton district secondary school and was a former member of First Mennonite Church, Kitchener.
Surviving besides his parents are maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Bender of Tavistock; a brother, John, at home; two sisters, Mrs. Larry (Sandra) Witmer of Kitchener and Mrs. James (Patricia) Edgeworth of London, Ont.
The body will be at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home, Kitchener, until noon Tuesday when removal will be made to First Mennonite Church for service at 3 p.m. conducted by Rev. Robert N. Johnson. Committal service will be held at the church followed by temporary entombment in Woodland cemetery. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Donations to the Ontario Mennonite mission board will be accepted as expressions of sympathy.

WISMER, Bruce Dale - Passed away suddenly on Monday, March 16, 2009 in Burnaby, B.C. Bruce was born 60 years ago in Bright, a son of the late Jeremiah B. and Elmina (Mayer) Wismer. Bruce was a free spirit who enjoyed his many adventures in life. Dear dad of Dale Wismer and wife Chantal Thorn of Kitchener. Lovingly remembered by his granddaughters, Victoria and Rayne. HEIDELBERG-Roger Mayer of Heidelberg died at his home early today after a lengthy illness. He was 17.
A lifelong resident of Heidelberg, he was the son of Mrs. Edgar Mayer and the late Mr. Mayer. He was a member of St. Agatha Mennonite Church.
Besides his mother, he is survived by three brothers, Arnold, Robert and Leonard, all of Heidelberg, and his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Rachel Mayer of Kitchener.
Besides his father, he was predeceased by two sisters.
The body will be at the Futher Brothers Funeral Home, Wellesley, until noon Sunday when removal will be made to St. Agatha Church for service at 2:30 conducted by Rev. Gerald Schwartzentruber and Rev. Elmer Schwartzentruber. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
