Joseph sold his property (234 Tilt Dr., Kitchener) to Jacob Block on 25 September 1883 (Waterloo Township, Land Record Abstracts, instr. #8976; Eby 1895: 281). The 1891 Census did not enumerate Jacob Block in the sub-district where this property is located, but did enumerate his son there. Samuel Block was 57 years old, and his wife, Cathrine, was 52: they had five children. They were living in a wooden, 1½ storey, 9-room house. Jacob Block died on 3 June 1893, and his executors sold the property to his son, Samuel, on 18 December 1894 (Waterloo Township, Land Record Abstracts, instr.13114). Samuel retained the house and land until 1920.

Historic Building:
This log house was originally built about 1861 by Joseph Gingrich, later tenants were Samuel Block, Herbert Wismer and Vernon Schierholz. Schierholz made extensive renovation to the house about 1950.

Albanus Myer is Fourth Workman to Die Following Inhaling of Sewer Gas.

Albanus Myer, who was gassed at the Kitchener sewer plant on Tuesday, Sept. 2nd, died in the K.-W. hospital on Wednesday evening, making the fourth death in connection with the fatal poisoning by gas fumes. Eph. Ernst, the foreman at the plant, who also inhaled the poisonous fumes while trying to rescue his fellow workmen, was confined to the hospital for many days. The funerals of John Stevenson, Jacob Eby and Chas. Zuch, the other victims of the accident, were held last week.

Dr. J. E. Hett, coroner, has called for a thorough investigation and it is likely that Dr. Nasmith, who with Dr. Amyot, designed the Mill Street plant in 1902, will be asked to investigate the cause of the gas fumes in the sewer tank.

Crown Attorney Bowlby will assist in the inquiry.

Myer was born in Baden in 1870 and had been an employe at the sewer farm for many years. He is survived by his wife, three sons, Wesley, Reuben and Walter, all of this city. two daughters, Mrs. H. Gardner and Mrs. Riehl, also of Kitchener, one brother, James Myer, and ten grand-children. Six sisters who survive are Mrs. M. Smee, Detroit, Mrs. J Manger and Mrs. J. Eby of this city Mrs. S. Heronimus of Crosshill, and Mrs. E. Ernst and Mrs. R. Uttley also of Kitchener.

Suffering a stroke, James Myers, 488 King street past, passed away suddenly at the family residence at an early hour this morning.

Deceased, a city laborer working in the works department, was 60 years of age. He was born in Baden, a son of the late Hezekiah Myers and Sarah Block

Surviving are his wife, three sons, Laverne in Woodstock, John and George of Kitchener, and three daughters, Mrs E. Lempe, Stoney Creek, Miss Mabel and Mr. M. Kringle of Kitchener. Mrs. R. Uttley, city, Mr. Edward Mmee, Windsor, Mrs. J. Manger, Mr J. Eby, Mrs. E. Ernst, all of Kitchener, and Mr. M. Hieronymus, Crosshill, also survive. One brother, Ales, was killed four years ago in the sewer farm disaster. A sister also predeceased him.

The remains will rest at the home. 444? King street east, until 11 am Monday, when they will remove to the Schreiter-Sandrock funeral home where services will held at 2:30 o'clock. Burial will made in Woodland cemetery Rev. Stewart Hoehmer of Waterloo officiating.

MRS. RUSSELL UTTLEY

Mrs. Russell Uttley, 261A King Street West, died at her home last night at the age of 53 years. Death followed a stroke. Mrs Uttley, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Hezekiah Meyers, was born in Wilmot Centre, Sept. 5, 1888. She attended Benton Street Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband, three sons, Howard, Earl and Russell, Jr., all of Kitchener, five daughters, Mrs. Herbert Benedict, Mrs. Frederick Hofheinz, Mrs. Edgar Currie and Mrs. William Dickson of Kitchener and Miss Jean Uttley, Galt, five sisters. Mrs. Miranda Nahrgang, New Hamburg, Mrs. Susannah Manser, Mrs. Isabelle Eby and Mrs. Ephriam Ernst, Kitchener, and Mrs. Emma Hieronimus of Crosshill and by seven grandchildren. Two brothers, Albanus and James Meyers, and one sister, Mrs. Lucy Eckensviller, predeceased her.

The funeral will be held Thursday afternoon from the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home at 2 o'clock. Interment will take place in Woodland Cemetery. Rev. Clarence M. Keen, pastor of Benton Street Baptist Church, will conduct the services. The remains are resting at the funeral home.

Loving mother of Kenneth and his wife Beulah of Kitchener and Elizabeth and her husband John Pulley of Holland Centre; proud grandmother of four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren: dear sister of Wilbert Ober and his wife Rita of Kitchener, Delores (Mrs. Bob Heimpel) of Fishermen's Cove, Jean (Mrs. Alvin Letson) of West Montrose and Violet (Mrs. Bill Walls) of Kincardine. Also survived by a sister-in-law, Arlene Ober of Kitchener. She will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews.

She was a member of Pioneer Park Christian Fellowship Mennonite Church.

Dear wife of Daniel; loving mother of Rev. Darrell Jantzi and his wife Florence, Glenn and his wife Joanne, all of Waterloo, Rev. Norene leaves her four children, Nancy (Peter) Barrington, Carol (Bill) Steinman, Dan (Barbara) Steinman, and Sally (Don) Metzger; six grandchildren - Ahren, Andrea, Patrick, Natalie, Emma and Jacob, and her two great grandchildren, Alex and Paige. She will also be fondly remembered by her three surviving "Block" sisters - Mary Belle Poll, Betty Aberhardt, and Sharon Wideman - and by her dear friends at the Queen-Margaret Apartment Buildings.

Norene was an active member of the Queen-Margaret Tenants Association and Bridge Club, a former Dairy Queen manager, and founder of the Pioneer Ice Cream Shoppe at Sportsworld.

At Norene's request, she will rest in peace at the Williamsburg Scattering Garden, close to her birthplace in Shingletown, Wilmot Township.

Her great joy was her many nieces, nephews and the good friends she made throughout the years. She took joy in serving as a Cub and Scout Mother in the Scout Auxiliary 24th and 19th divisions, Smithson School and Home, Teacher's Aid with pre-school deaf children and twenty years with the Sunnyside Home Auxiliary. She made friends as a lecturer with Counterweight and as a member of the Rockway Senior Centre Quilting Club. MaryBelle's greatest joy was serving her Lord and Saviour. She loved the children she taught in Sunday School and for forty years as a teacher during the summer Vacation Bible School. She served Holy Cross Lutheran Church as a member of the Women's Guild, L.W.M.L. Women's Retreats and many committees throughout the years. A private funeral service will be held at Woodland Cemetery.
