    Notes:

    Bender. - Elizabeth Ruby Bender, daughter of the late Bishop Joseph Ruby and Magdalena Roth Ruby, was born in Perth Co., Ont., Sept. 30, 1851; died April 19, 1929; aged 77 y. 6 m. 20 d. In early youth she accepted Christ as her Savior, united with the East Zorra A. M. Church, and remained a faithful member until death. On Sept. 28, 1875, she was united in marriage to Joseph M. Bender. This union was blessed with ten children, 7 sons and 3 daughters. Her husband died May 2, 1915. She is survived by 5 sons, 3 daughters, 40 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, 2 brothers, and 1 sister. Two sons and 9 grandchildren preceded her in death. Services were held in the home, conducted by Jacob R. Bender and at the East Zorra A. M. Church, conducted by Daniel Stineman and D. S. Jutzi.

    John Bender

    John Bender of Tavistock, formerly of New Hamburg and South Easthope Township, died last Friday at the age of 91.

    Born Oct. 7, 1878 in Wilmot Township, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Bender and farmed in South Easthope Township for many years before retiring and moving to New Hamburg. He came to Tavistock three months ago. Mr. Bender was a member of the East Zorra Mennonite Church 16th line.

    His wife, the former Magdalena Zehr predeceased him in 1955. Surviving are one son, Joseph, Shakespeare; three daughters, Mrs. Bena Kropf, New Hamburg; Mrs. David (Annie) Streicher and Mrs. John (Elizabeth) Schwartzentruber, Tavistock; three sisters, Mrs. Noah (Lena) Wagler, New Hamburg; Mrs. Christian (Katie) Lebold and Mrs. Christian (Anne) Baechler, both of Tavistock; 16 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by one son and six brothers.

    Funeral service was held at the East Zorra Mennonite church, 16th line, on Monday, Rev Newton Gingerich officiating.

    Burial took place in the church cemetery.

    The Robert Krug Funeral Home, Tavistock, was in charge of arrangements.

    Bender, Solomon R., was born in Wilmot Township, Ont., Jan. 16, 1882; died after a brief illness at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener, Ont., Dec. 1, 1957; aged 74 y. 10 m. 15 d. In his early youth he accepted Christ as his Saviour and united with the Amish Mennonite Church of East Zorra, Ont., of which he was a member until his death. He was the first to break the family circle. Surviving are his wife, the former, Rachel Iutzi, who he married Dec. 4, 1906, one daughter (Elvera, New Hamburg, Ont.), 5 sons (Clarence, Lloyd, and Laverene, all of East Zorra, Ont.; Milford, Wilmot Twp., Ont.; and Gladwin, Kitchener, Ont.), 3 brothers (John, South Easthope, Ont.; Christian and Ezra, both of East Zorra, Ont.), 3 sisters (Mrs. Noah Wagler, North Easthope, Ont.; Mrs. Christian Lebold and Mrs. Christian Baechler, both of South Easthope, Ont.), and 19 grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the East Zorra Church in charge of Henry Yantzi, Joel Schwartzentruber, and Curtis Cressman. Burial in the adjoining cemetery.

    Ezra Bender

    Ezra Bender of RR 1, Tavistock, died on Wednesday of last week at the age of 79.

    A son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Bender, he was born in Wilmot Township, Sept. 18, 1980. He farmed in East Zorra Township until he retired a few years ago. He was a member of the East Zorra Mennonite Church, 16th line. He was predeceased by his first wife, the former Katie Lebold, in 1933.

    Surviving are his second wife, the former Clara Ruby; three sons, Mervin of New Hamburg and Rufus and Christian, both of Durham; four daughters, Mrs. Elroy (Verda) Schwartzentruber of Hickson, Mrs. Clayton (Rosetta) Bender of RR 1, Tavistock, Mrs, Neil (Viola) Ropp of New Hamburg and Mrs. Lyle (Ruby) Weber of Waterloo; one brother, John of Tavistock; three sisters, Mrs. Christian (Katie) Lebold of Tavistock and Mrs. Noah (Lena) Wagler and Mrs. Christian (Annie) Baechler, both of Shakespeare; 35 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by five brothers.

    Funeral service was held at the 16th line church on Saturday, Rev. Newton Gingrich officiating.

    Burial took place in the adjoining church cemetery.

    The Robert Krug Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Daughter of the late John Bender and the former Magdalena Zehr. She was a member of Hillcrest Mennonite Church, New Hamburg. Was the beloved wife of Joseph Kropf, whom she married October 9, 1924, and who predeceased her May 24, 1934. Lovingly remembered by her children, Floyd and his wife Hilda of Tavistock, Bernice and her husband Laverne Wagler of RR 2, Baden, Delford of New Hamburg, Merlen and his wife Doreen of RR 2, Elora; dear sister of Joseph of RR 2, Tavistock, and Mrs, Elizabeth (Lizzie) Schwartzentruber of RR 2, Tavistock. Sadly missed by 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by one brother, Christian and one sister, Mrs. Annie Streicher.     On Friday, March 26, 1993, at Victoria Hospital, London, Mervin Bender, of New Hamburg. He was born in Wilmot township 75 years ago, a son of the late Ezra and Katie (nee Lebold) Bender and was predeceased by his step-mother Clara Ruby. He was a member of Hillcrest Mennonite Church, New Hamburg. Mervin had owned and operated a backhoe service for over 28 years. Beloved husband of the former Leona Lichti, whom he married September 3, 1941. Loving father of Carol Warren of Parry Sound, Sandy and her husband Robert Seyler of Wellesley, Gary Bender and his fiancee Cindy of New Hamburg. Ever remembered by seven grandchildren, Todd, Terry, Kim, and her friend Al, Kevin, Carley, Scott and Cody. Sadly missed by one sister, Verda Swartzentruber of Tavistock, three step-sisters, Rosetta and her husband Clayton Bender of Tavistock, Viola Ropp of New Hamburg and Ruby and her husband Lyle Weber of Kitchener; two step-brothers, Rufus Bender and his wife Ellen, Christian Bender and his wife Ada, all of Durham.     SCHWARTZENTRUBER, Glenn Daniel

    Passed away into the arms of his Lord and Saviour, unexpectedly but peacefully on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, at London Health Sciences Centre, University Hospital. Glenn was born 81 years ago in Zurich, Ontario and was a son of the late Edmund and Katherine (Bender) Schwartzentruber.

    Beloved husband of Joyce (Lebold) Schwartzentruber with whom he just celebrated 60 years of marriage. Loving father of Don Schwartzentruber (Sandy), Sharon (Melvin Martin), Sandra (Phil Roth), Sheila (Wayne Kuepfer) and David Schwartzentruber (Rachel). Devoted grandfather of Kendall, Kyle, Tanya (Andrew Streicher), Evan, Danesha, Landon, Kaleb, and Launa. Great-grandfather of Brandon, Marci, Jessica, and Erika. Glenn will be missed by granddaughter-in-law Marilyn Martin, siblings, Ferne (Dennis Rabideau), Grant, Mary Mae (Finn Petersen), Nancy, Barbara (Jim Burkhart) and John (Judy), brother-in-law Ron Lebold (Doris) and by his many nieces and nephews.

    Glenn is predeceased by his 2 grandsons Chad Martin and Jeff Martin, and by sister-in-law Edna Lebold.
    Glenn was a passionate and committed electrician and enjoyed farming. Glenn enjoyed volunteering his time to many events, travelling, and taking part in a good book.

    Relatives and friends are invited to the visitation at Woodlawn Mennonite Fellowship, 6449 Wellington Road 11, Dorking, on Saturday, October 15, 2022, from 2 \endash 4 & 6 \endash 8 p.m. The funeral service will take place in the church on Sunday, October 16, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. Interment to follow at Hillside Cemetery, with fellowship time to follow at Countryside Fellowship.

    Passed away suddenly on Friday August 23, 2013 at Listowel Memorial Hospital, Listowel. Robert resided in New Hamburg and formerly farmed at R.R. # 1 Tavistock. He was the son of the late Clarence & Ida (Roth) Bender.

    Beloved husband of Laurene (Kuepfer) Bender who he married June 15, 1974. Dear brother-in-law of Beatrice & husband Frank Marshall-Taylor of London and Liz & husband Paul Collins of Stratford. Sadly missed by his nephews Jason (Sok), James (Nak) and niece, Robin (Sean), great-nieces Kaylene, Jayla, Mariah, Lorren, Taylor and great-nephew Dylan. Robert was predeceased by his father-in-law and mother-in-law Ivan & Susie Kuepfer.

    Robert was a member of Cassel Mennonite Church, R.R. # 1 Tavistock. He volunteered at the New Hamburg Thrift Centre and enjoyed delivering travel trailers for Sky-Linc Systems in Rodney.
