    Notes:

    Bender, Solomon R., was born in Wilmot Township, Ont., Jan. 16, 1882; died after a brief illness at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener, Ont., Dec. 1, 1957; aged 74 y. 10 m. 15 d. In his early youth he accepted Christ as his Saviour and united with the Amish Mennonite Church of East Zorra, Ont., of which he was a member until his death. He was the first to break the family circle. Surviving are his wife, the former, Rachel Iutzi, who he married Dec. 4, 1906, one daughter (Elvera, New Hamburg, Ont.), 5 sons (Clarence, Lloyd, and Laverene, all of East Zorra, Ont.; Milford, Wilmot Twp., Ont.; and Gladwin, Kitchener, Ont.), 3 brothers (John, South Easthope, Ont.; Christian and Ezra, both of East Zorra, Ont.), 3 sisters (Mrs. Noah Wagler, North Easthope, Ont.; Mrs. Christian Lebold and Mrs. Christian Baechler, both of South Easthope, Ont.), and 19 grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the East Zorra Church in charge of Henry Yantzi, Joel Schwartzentruber, and Curtis Cressman. Burial in the adjoining cemetery.

Clarence was born in East Zorra township 85 years ago, a son of the late Solomon R. Bender and Rachel Iutzi. He farmed at RR 1, Tavistock prior to his retirement and was a member of Cassel Mennonite Church, RR 1, Tavistock. Beloved husband of the former Ida Roth, whom he married May 30, 1942. Loving father of Robert and his wife Laurene of RR 1, Tavistock; dear brother of Elvera Bender of Nithview Home, New Hamburg, Lloyd and his wife Leona of RR 1,Tavistock, Milfird and his wife Edna of RR 1, New Hamburg, Gladwin and his wife Alma of Kitchener and Lavern and his wife Ina of RR 1, Tavistock. Friends and relatives may call at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 291 Huron St., New Hamburg, from 7-9 p.m. this evening (Friday) and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday. At noon Sunday, July 4, 1993 transfer will be made to 16th Line East Zorra Mennonite Church, RR 1, Tavistock, where the service will be held at 2: 30 p.m., with Pastor Gordon Martin officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Cassel Mennonite Church Building Fund or Nithview Home.

    BENDER, Lloyd -- Passed away, on Saturday, March 14, 1998, at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener. He resided RR 1 Tavistock and was born in East Zorra Township, 85 years ago, a son of the late Soloman and Raecel (Iutzi) Bender. He was a member od Cassel Mennonite Church and a past member of the Haysville Sunshine Club. Lloyd enjoyed repairing and selling horsedrawn wagons (Buckboards) as his hobby. Beloved husband of Leona Annie (Bender) whom he married, January 1, 1939. Loving father of Sanford and his wife Joy of Guelph, John and his wife Marty of Elkart, Ind., Willard of RR1, Tavistock, L. Brian and his wife Vivian of RR 1 Tavistock, Mark and his wife Christa of RR2, New Hamburg, Kay and her husband Murray Meadows of Brampton. Ever remembered by 13 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Dear brother of Milfird and Edna of RR 1, New Hamburg, Gladwin and Elma of RR 1, Tavistock and Elvera Bender of New Hamburg, Predeceased by one brother, Clarence and his wife Ida Bender. Friends and Relatives were received at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 291 Huron St., New Hamburg, on Sunday from 2-6 and 7-9 p.m. A Family burial will be held at the 16th line East Zorra Cemetery on Monday March 16 (today) at 3 p.m. followed by memorial service at Cassel Mennonite Church at 3: 30 p.m. with Pastor Jim Whitehead presiding.

    Gladwin Bender - went home to be with his Lord, peacefully with his family by his side on Sunday, October 12, 2008 at his residence in New Hamburg. Gladwin was formerly of Kitchener. He was born 91 years ago in East Zorra Township and was the son of the late Solomon R. & Rachel (Iutzi) Bender. Beloved husband of the former Elma (Good) Bender whom he married September 23, 1942. Loving father of Bertha & Ray Gingerich of Kingston, Arnie & Barbara Bender of Wellesley, Maynard & Lila Bender of Waterloo, Sharon Gingerich of Kitchener. Sadly missed by 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Also remembered by Jim Gingerich of Kitchener and brother Laverne & Ina Bender of Tavistock. Gladwin was predeceased by sister Elvera Bender brothers Clarence & Ida Bender, Lloyd & Leona Bender and Milfird & Edna Bender. Gladwin was a member of Nith Valley Mennonite Church where he served as an elder and on church council. He enjoyed gardening, walking and nature. The interment will take place on Thursday October 16, 2008 at 1: 00 p.m. at Nith Valley Mennonite Cemetery (everyone welcome). The service to celebrate Gladwin's life will follow the interment at 2: 00 p.m. at Nith Valley Mennonite Church with Pastor Hendrike and Matthew Isert Bender officiating.     Bender, Robert Clair

    Passed away suddenly on Friday August 23, 2013 at Listowel Memorial Hospital, Listowel. Robert resided in New Hamburg and formerly farmed at R.R. # 1 Tavistock. He was the son of the late Clarence & Ida (Roth) Bender.

    Beloved husband of Laurene (Kuepfer) Bender who he married June 15, 1974. Dear brother-in-law of Beatrice & husband Frank Marshall-Taylor of London and Liz & husband Paul Collins of Stratford. Sadly missed by his nephews Jason (Sok), James (Nak) and niece, Robin (Sean), great-nieces Kaylene, Jayla, Mariah, Lorren, Taylor and great-nephew Dylan. Robert was predeceased by his father-in-law and mother-in-law Ivan & Susie Kuepfer.

    Robert was a member of Cassel Mennonite Church, R.R. # 1 Tavistock. He volunteered at the New Hamburg Thrift Centre and enjoyed delivering travel trailers for Sky-Linc Systems in Rodney.

    Family and friends may call at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 291 Huron Street, New Hamburg Sunday from 7-9 p.m. and again Monday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m.. The funeral service will take place on Tuesday August 27, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Cassel Mennonite Church, R.R. # 1 Tavistock with Pastor Wanda Roth Amstutz officiating.     Anne Marie Bender

    Special to The Record New Hamburg

    Anne Marie Bender, five-month-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Bender of RR 1, New Hamburg, died Friday at Toronto Sick Children's Hospital. She was born Sept. 12, 1969. Mrs. Bender was the former Marjorie Steinmann. Surviving besides her parents are one sister, Dawn, 3; her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Milford Bender of RR 1, New Hamburg and Mrs. And Mrs. Elmer Steinmann of Wellesley, and three great-grandmothers, Mrs. Rachel Bender and Mrs. Lydia Roth, both of RR 1, Tavistock and Mrs. Katherine Steinmann of Wellesley. The body will be at the Bruce J. Omand Funeral Home after noon Sunday until noon Monday when removal will be made to the 17th Line Cassel Mennonite Church of East Zorra Township for a funeral service at 2: 30 p.m. Burial will be made in the 16th Line Mennonite Cemetery. Rev. Vernon Zehr will conduct the services assisted by Rev. Howard Gerber. Memorial contributions will be accepted as expressions of sympathy.
