    Bender, Ezra, son of Joseph and Elizabeth (Ruby) Bender, was born in Wilmot Twp., Ont., Sept. 18, 1890; died at Tavistock, Ont., Dec. 10, 1969; aged 79 y. 2 m. 22 d. On Sept. 16, 1916, he was married to Katie Lebold, who died June 13, 1933. On Dec. 4, 1938, he was married to Clara Ruby, who survives. Also surviving are 7 children* (Mervin, Rufus, Christian, Verda - Mrs. Elroy Swartzentruber, Rosetta-Mrs. Clayton Bender, Viola-Mrs. Neil Ropp, and Ruby-Mrs. Lyle Weber), 35 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, one brother (John), and 3 sisters (Lena-Mrs. Noah Wagler, Annie-Mrs. Christian Baechler, and Katie-Mrs. Christian Lebold). He was a member of the East Zorra Church, where funeral services were held Dec. 13, with Newton L. Gingerich and Henry Yantzi officiating.

    Ezra Bender

    Ezra Bender of RR 1, Tavistock, died on Wednesday of last week at the age of 79.

    A son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Bender, he was born in Wilmot Township, Sept. 18, 1980. He farmed in East Zorra Township until he retired a few years ago. He was a member of the East Zorra Mennonite Church, 16th line. He was predeceased by his first wife, the former Katie Lebold, in 1933.

    Surviving are his second wife, the former Clara Ruby; three sons, Mervin of New Hamburg and Rufus and Christian, both of Durham; four daughters, Mrs. Elroy (Verda) Schwartzentruber of Hickson, Mrs. Clayton (Rosetta) Bender of RR 1, Tavistock, Mrs, Neil (Viola) Ropp of New Hamburg and Mrs. Lyle (Ruby) Weber of Waterloo; one brother, John of Tavistock; three sisters, Mrs. Christian (Katie) Lebold of Tavistock and Mrs. Noah (Lena) Wagler and Mrs. Christian (Annie) Baechler, both of Shakespeare; 35 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by five brothers.

    Funeral service was held at the 16th line church on Saturday, Rev. Newton Gingrich officiating.

    Burial took place in the adjoining church cemetery.

    The Robert Krug Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

    BENDER, Mervin L.

    On Friday, March 26, 1993, at Victoria Hospital, London, Mervin Bender, of New Hamburg. He was born in Wilmot township 75 years ago, a son of the late Ezra and Katie (nee Lebold) Bender and was predeceased by his step-mother Clara Ruby. He was a member of Hillcrest Mennonite Church, New Hamburg. Mervin had owned and operated a backhoe service for over 28 years. Beloved husband of the former Leona Lichti, whom he married September 3, 1941. Loving father of Carol Warren of Parry Sound, Sandy and her husband Robert Seyler of Wellesley, Gary Bender and his fiancee Cindy of New Hamburg. Ever remembered by seven grandchildren, Todd, Terry, Kim, and her friend Al, Kevin, Carley, Scott and Cody. Sadly missed by one sister, Verda Swartzentruber of Tavistock, three step-sisters, Rosetta and her husband Clayton Bender of Tavistock, Viola Ropp of New Hamburg and Ruby and her husband Lyle Weber of Kitchener; two step-brothers, Rufus Bender and his wife Ellen, Christian Bender and his wife Ada, all of Durham. Mervin was predeceased by one son-in-law, Bob Warren; two brothers-in-law, Elroy Swartzentruber and Neil Ropp. Friends and relatives may call at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 291 Huron St., New Hamburg after 7 p.m. today (Saturday) and until Monday at noon, when transfer will be made to Hillcrest Mennonite Church for the service at 2 pm. with Rev. Maruice Martin, Rev Mary Schiedel and Rev. Fred Lichti officiating. Interment in the 19th Line East Zorra Mennonite Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Critical Care Trauma Centre, Victoria Hospital or Hillcrest Mennonite Church.

    In Loving Memory Died In Wilmot, on Thursday, December 29th, 1927 Mary Ann Elizabeth Beloved Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Bender Aged 15 days. The Funeral Will take place from her parents' residence on Saturday, December 31st, at one o'clock p.m., to the 16th Line East Zorra A.-M. Church and Cemetery. This lovely bud, so young and fair Called hence by early doom, Just came to show how sweet a flower In Paradise can bloom.

    Bender - Mary Ann Elizabeth, daughter of Bro. Ezra and Sister Katie (Lebold) Bender, Waterloo Co., Ont., died Dec. 29, 1927;aged 15 d. She leaves her sorrowing parents, 1 brother and 1 sister. 3 brothers and 2 sisters preceded her to the great beyond. Funeral service conducted at the home by Jacob R. Bender in English and at the church by Brethren M. Kipfer, P.S. Zehr, and D.S. Jutzi. Interment in East Zorra A.M. Cemetery Dec. 31.
