Another of our old pioneers was called away last week in the death of Mr. Joseph Zehr, who died last Tuesday evening, July 26th, at the home of his son-in-law, Mr. Chris. Wagler, at the ripe old age of 87 years, 6 months and 25 days, after a short illness. The funeral was held on Friday forenoon and was largely attended. Many came from far and near to pay their-last tribute of respect to the departed. Bishop Daniel H. Steinmann conducted the service at the house, after which the remains were taken to the cemetery at the Amish-Mennonite meeting house west of Baden, and laid in their last resting place A large concourse of people followed the remains to the grave. After the interment, services were conducted in the meeting-house by Bishop Jacob Bender, assisted by several others. Joseph Zehr was born in Lorraine, Germany, Dec. 31st, 1817, and came to Canada with his parents. They resided in Woolwich Township for a few years, then moved to Wilmot, where Mr. Zehr resided till his death. His wife to whom he was married in 1846, died in 1900. Thus they had lived together for over half a century. Three sons and three daughters survive to mourn the loss of their father. The pioneers who first settled here when Wilmot was about all bush yet, are nearly all gone to join the great majority. We extend our sincere sympathy to all the bereaved ones.

Christian Zehr was born at Beadon, Ontario, Canada, December 24, 1852 and died at his home in Bellwood, Nebraska July 25, 1924, aged 72 years and seven months.

He was married to Miss Mattie Miller in Canada, in 1871. To this union three children were born, one girl who preceded him in death, and two boys, Jake of Amherst and Allan of Kearney. Mrs. Zehr died in 1878.

He was afterwards married to Anna Kennell, who survives him.

To this union were born six [sic, seven listed]children, John, of Palmer, Mattie (Mrs. Kiser) of Bellwood, Lydia (Mrs. Stevens) of University Place, Bessie (Mrs. McIntyre) of Chapman, Edith (Mrs. Osward) of Shickley, Gladys, (Mrs. Baker) of Palmer, and Earvin at home.

The family moved to Kearney, Nebraska in 1882, making their home there until they moved to Palmer in the spring of 1917.

Having decided to quit farming, they moved to Bellwood in the fall of 1923, and were living there at the time of his death.

Mr. Zehr united with the Mennonite Church in his boyhood, and throughout his lifetime he remained a consistent member of that organization.

The funeral was held at Kearney Sunday, July 27, 1924.

Catherina Zehr, was born in Wilmot, Ont., Jan. 6, 1864; died in Wellesley, Ont., May 7, 1928; aged 64 y. 4 m. 1 d. She was united in marriage to Joseph L. Roth June 27, 1889. This union was blessed with 11 children (Lydia, Christian, Mary, wife of Abraham Steinman, Joseph, Kate, wife of Joseph B. Leis, Benjamin, Saloma, wife of Emanuel W. Roth, Sarah, Madeline, Samuel, and Edna). Sister Roth was blessed to see all her children accept their Savior and unite with the church. She is survived by her husband, 7 daughters, 4 sons, 15 grandchildren, 4 sisters, 2 brothers, and many other relatives and friends. In her early youth she accepted Christ as her Savior and united with the Amish Mennonite Church. She was a patient sufferer from cancer in her face. Two days before her death, double pneumonia set in. Many a time she called out, "O Lord, take me home this night." Funeral services were held May 10, 1928, at the home by Bro. Chr. S. Zehr, and at the Wellesley A. M. Church by the Brethren Peter Litwiller, Daniel H. Steinman, and Daniel Lebold.

On Jan. 25, 1886, she was united in marriage with Christian S. Zehr. To this union was born 1 son (Aaron W.). She leaves her bereaved husband, an aged mother, 1 son, 1 foster daughter (Mary - Mrs. Moses Erb), 2 grandchildren (Mary and Harold Zehr) 3 sisters (Mary - Mrs. Jonathan Jantzi, Barbara-Mrs. Christian B. In her young years she gave her heart to Jesus, united with the Amish Mennonite church, and stood in her faith to the end. She will be greatly missed in her home, neighborhood, and Church in which her voice was always heard among the rest while singing. She was a loving companion, a kind mother, and her kindness was not only shown to her immediate family but her home was always open to strangers. On Wednesday, May 30, 1928, she took a paralytic stroke from which she never recovered. Funeral services were held June 27 at the home by Bro. Christian Gascho and at the church by Brethren Chris. Schultz, Daniel Steinman, and Daniel Lebold.

WILMOT CENTRE Mrs. Christian B.. Jantzi, 85, of RR 2. Petersburg, died at her, home last night. She had been ill for four months.

The former Barbara Wagler, she was born in Wilmot township, July 6, 1869, a daughter of the late Christian Wagler and Magdalene Zehr. Her husband predeceased her in 1939. She was a member of Steinman Amish Mennonite Church, near Baden. Surviving are two sons, Allan, at home; Aaron W., Wellesley; a daughter, Mrs. C. E. (Mary) Schwartzentruber, RR 2. Petersburg; a sister, Mrs. Jonathan (Mary) Jantzi, Kitchener; 11 grandchildren and 17 great- grandchildren.

The body is at the Futher- Omand Funeral Home, New Hamburg, until 3 p.m. today when removal will be made to the residence where a short serv- ice will be conducted Monday at 1:30 p.m. It will be followed by a memorial service at Steinman Church at 2:15 p.m. Interment will be in Wilmot Centre Cemetery. Bishop Orland Gingerich will officiate.

Isaac Wagler

BADEN, Aug. 14. - The death occurred at St. Agatha yesterday of Isaac Wagler, 75 The deceased was born in Wilmot Township, Jan. 18, 1872. His death followed a lingering illness. He was a son of the late Christian and Magdalene Wagler.

Surviving are his widow, Catherine Litwiller; two sons, Elmer of New Hamburg, Ervin of St. Agatha: 3 eight daughters Mrs. Noah (Victoria) Boshart, Baden, Mrs. John (Ida) Dietz, Waterloo, Mrs. John (Katie) Leis. New Hamburg. Mrs. Elmer (Mattie) Schwartzentruber, Baden, Mrs. Eli (Sarah) Zehr, St. Agatha. Mrs. Erie (Vera) Schulz, Kitchener, Mrs. Ervin (Verna) Zehr, Milver- ton, Mrs. Jonas (Laura) Wagler, St. Agatha; two sisters, Mrs. Jonathan Jantzi, Kitchener, and Mrs. C. B. Jantzi, Pine Hill. Thirty-nine grand- children and two great grandchildren survive. Two sisters, two brothers and two grandchildren predeceased him.

A service will be held at the home of his son-in-law, Eli Zehr. St. Agatha at 2:00p.m., Saturday. A public service will be held at the St. Agatha A.M. Church. Interment will be made in St. Agatha A.M Cemetery. Rev. Benjamin Gingerich will officiate.

BADEN, Dec. 4. The death of Aaron Wagler. Wilmot township councillor, occurred yesterday at his home near Baden in his 63rd year. He has been sick for some time. He was born on the Wagler homestead near Pinehill and lived all his life in the district as a farmer. He entered municipal politics only last year, heading the polls in his election as township councillor.

He is survived by his wife, formerly Leah Litwiller, by two daughters and three sons, Elmina, Edna, Elton and Allen at home and Milton in Baden. One brother, Isaac of St. Agatha and two sisters, Mrs. J. B. Jantzi and Mrs. J. K. Schwartzentruber of the Baden district, also survive
The funeral will be held on Monday afternoon at one o'clock from his late residence to the Steinman Mennonite church for service with burial in the adjoining cemetery.

BADEN. Jacob Z. Iutzi, 71, died on Sunday, Nov. 16, at the home of his daughter and son-in- law, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Schmidt after an illness of nearly one year.

Born in Petersburg, Feb. 14, 1881, he was the son of the late John M. Iutzi and Barbara Zehr. He attended the Steinman Amish Mennonite Church. On Novem- ber 5, 1901, he was married to Katherine Roth of St. Agatha who predeceased him in December of 1932. A son William also predeceased him in 1948.

Surviving are two sons, Wilfred of Baden and Roy of Lockport, N.Y., and three daughters, Mrs. Edna Herner, Baden, (Elda) Mrs. Stanley Schmidt, Baden and (Eva) Mrs. Eldon Gingerich, New Hamburg. There are 16 grand- children and seven great grand- children.

JACOB Z. GINGERICH Wellesley - Jacob Z. Gingerich, 87, died yesterday at the home of his son Allen, RR 1, St. Agatha. He was a member of the St. Agatha Amish Mennonite Church.

He was born May 31, 1869 in Wilmot Township, a son of the late Rudolph Gingerich and Mary Zehr. He was married twice. His first wife, Leah Bast, died in 1906. Two years later he married Magdalina Erb, who died in 1942.

Surviving are two sons, Allen, and Rudolph of Little Lakes, Mich.; three step-sons, Rudolph Yantzi of Waterloo, Joel Yantzi of RR 2, Baden and Irvin Yantzi of RR 1, St. Agatha; three brothers, Benjamin of New Hamburg, Abraham and John of RR 2, Baden; two sisters, Mrs. John Roth of Baden and Mrs. Christian Steinman of RR 2, Baden; thirteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

The body is at Allen Gingerich's home where a short service will be conducted Sunday, at 2 p.m. followed by a memorial service at the St. Agatha Church at 2: 30 p.m. Rev. Peter Nafziger will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

NEW HAMBURG - A farmer in the New Hamburg district all his life, Rev. Benjamin Gingerich, 74, of Jacob Street, New Hamburg, died at his home Tuesday. Born in Wilmot Township, he was a son of the late Rudolph Gingerich and Marie Zehr. Ordained in Wilmot Amish Mennonite Church in 1930, he was a member of Steinman AM Church. He moved to New Hamburg 11 years ago.

He and his wife, the former Katherine Steinman, celebrated their 50^th wedding anniversary Dec. 5. Survivors include two sons, Elton of RR 2, New Hamburg, Melvin,at home; four daughters, Mrs. Moses (Elva) Roth of RR a, Shakespeare, Mrs. Isiah (Marian) Gingerich of RR1, New Hamburg, Mrs. Lloyd (Alma) Roth of Ailsa Craig, Mrs. Floyd (Christina) Steinman of RR 2, Baden; one brother, John, of Baden; one sister, Mrs. Christian (Magdeline) Steinman of RR 2, New Hamburg; and 20 grandchildren. John Z. Wagler of Wellesley died September 16, at the Brunner Nursing Home after a lengthy illness. He was 92.

Born in East Zorra Township, he farmed in Wellesley Township until retiring to Wellesley in 1929. He lived at the nursing home for the past 7 ½ years and was a member of Maple View Mennonite Church.

He was predeceased by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Wagler; his wife, the former Catherine Streicher, who died in May, 1961, a son; five brothers; and a sister, and a grandchild.

Surviving are a son, Rudy of Wellesley; a daughter, Lena, a resident at the Brunner Nursing Home, and a grandchild.

The body rested at the Futher Brothers Funeral Home, Wellesley, until noon Friday when removal was made to the church for service at 2:30 p.m. Burial was in the church cemetery

Daniel Christner, of Pigeon, Mich., was born March 6, 1879, near Elkhart, Ind.; died April 3, 1943.

He was united in marriage to Katie Zehr. To this union 7 children were born (Orie and Emma of Pigeon; Walter and Viola, Mrs. Emery Seaman, of Detroit, Mich.; Clayton and Floyd in the army; and Bertha who died in infancy).

He left to mourn his departure his bereaved companion, 4 sons, 2 daughters, 6 grandchildren, and one brother Jacob of near Pigeon.

The funeral was held at the Pigeon River A.M. Church, April 6, 1943.

CHRISTIAN ROTH

The funeral service for Christian Roth of 47 Franklin Street, Kitchener, formerly of Wellesley, who died Thursday, was held Saturday afternoon at Maple View Mennonite Church, Wellesley. Futher Brothers Funeral Home was in charge and burial was in the church cemetery.

Mr. Roth was born in Wellesley Township and was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph L. Roth. He was a member of the Maple View Mennonite Church and lived in Wellesley until he moved to Kitchener three years ago. He was 77.

Surviving are two brothers, Benjamin of Wellesley and Samuel of Waterloo, and six sisters, Mrs. Abraham (Mary) Steinman ofRR2, New Hamburg, Mrs. Joseph (Katharine) Leis of Elrose, Sask., Mrs. Emmanuel (Salome) Roth of Baden, Mrs. William (Madeline) Kropf of Kitchener, and Sarah and Edna, both of Waterloo. Benjamin Roth, 75, of Wellesley, died Sunday at Kitchener-Waterloo Hospital.

Born in Wellesley, he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Roth.

He was a member of St. Agatha Mennonite Church.

He farmed near Wellesley, retiring in 1963.

Mrs. Christian E. Schwartzentruber, 72, of R.R. 2, Petersburg, died suddenly Sunday, April 17, at her home.

The former Mary Yantzi, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Christian B. Yantzi, she was born on November 11, 1893, in Wilmot Township, where she had lived all her life. She was a member of Steinman Mennonite Church, Wilmot Township.

Surviving are her husband; three sons, Paul, of New Hamburg; Earl, of R.R. 2, Petersburg, and Frank, of Toronto; two daughters, Mrs. Roy (Ruth) Schlegel, of R.R. 2, Petersburg, and Mrs. Delton (Helen) Boshart, of R.R. 2, Petersburg; two brothers, Aaron, of Wellesley, and Allan, of Baden; 21 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter, Glenda Dawn Schlegel.

The funeral service was held Wednesday afternoon at Steinman Mennonite Church. Rev. Elmer Schwartzentruber and Rev. Elmer Grove officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery.

JANTZI, Aaron W. -- Passed away on Sunday, August 31, at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener.

He was born in Wilmot township 82 years ago. He was the founder of Wellesley brand apple butter and cider products. He also operated the Wellesley Lumber Mill from 1935 to 1944 and was the operator of the John Deere dealership in Wellesley.

He is survived by his wife, the former Sarah Leis and two sons, Lloyd and Ralph; two daughters, Mabel (Mrs. Andrew Steckly) and Norma (Mrs. Arthur Steckly), all of Wellesley; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, Christian B. Jantzi and the former Barbara Wagler; also by one brother and one sister.

The late Mr. Jantzi is resting at the Futher Bros. Funeral Home in Wellesley until noon on Wednesday when removal will be made to Maple View Mennonite Church for a memorial service 2 p.m. Rev. Elmer Schwartzentruber will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Wagler, Mrs. Laura \endash On Monday, Feb. 22, 1993, at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener, Laura Wagler, of New Hamburg.

She was formerly of Parkhill and was born in Wilmot township 76 years ago, a daughter of the late Isaac and Catherine (nee Litwiller) Wagler. She had worked at Nithview Home prior to retirement and was a member of Steinmann Mennonite church, RR 2, Baden, where she was a member of the WMSC. Laura and Jonas were involved in Prison Ministries and were members and supporters of Truck Stop Evangelism Ministries.

Beloved wife of Jonas Wagler whom she married July 26, 1936. Loving mother of Myrtle and her husband Robert Davies of London, Ont., Elaine and her husband Abe Stouffer of Woodville, Delores and her husband Daniel Euler, Marylou and her husband Claude Phaneuf, all of Morinville, Alta. Lovingly remembered by nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mattie and her husband Pastor Elmer Schwartzentruber, Sarah (Mr. Eli Zehr), all of New Hamburg and Vera (Mrs. Eric Schulz) of Kitchener. Also missed by one sister-in-law, Mrs. Orillia Wagler of St. Agatha and one brother-in-law, Ervin Zehr of Tavistock.

Bender. - Simon, son of Joseph H. and Mary Bender, was born near New Hamburg, Waterloo Co., Ont., in 1890; died at his home on Oct. 23, 1912; aged 22 y. A sister, brother, father, mother, and 2 grandmothers, with a host of friends survive to mourn his early departure. His last and only sickness, appendicitis, continued for only eight days when he was relieved by death. He bore his sickness with much patience and was resigned to the will of God. Previous to his death he said to his loving sister who was standing by his bedside that if she would see such a beautiful glory as he does she would not mourn. About four years ago he accepted Christ as his Savior, united with the A. M. Church and was a faithful member until his death. Is this not true as the psalmist says, "As for man, his days are as grass: as a flower of the field so he flourisheth. For the wind passeth over and it is gone, and the place thereof shall know it no more" (Psa. 103: 15, 16). Funeral services were conducted at the East Zorra Church by D. H. Steinman and J. M. Bender. Interment at the 19th Line Cemetery.

A wellknown resident of this district, Ivan Bender, died suddenly at his home in Baden on Saturday evening in his 50^th year. He was born in Wilmot township near New Hamburg Oct. 8, 1909, a son of the late Joseph H. Bender and Catharine Zehr. Following his marriage to Lena Kropf on Oct. 31, 1931, he lived in New Hamburg, later moving to Woodstock where he resided for 15 years before moving to Baden eight years ago. He was a member of the United Missionary Church in Kitchener. Surviving besides his wife are three sons, Gerald R., Woodstock and Richard and Thomas at home; also one daughter Diane, at home, and one sister, Mrs. Lydia Roth, of Baden. One grandchild also survives. He was predeceased by one brother and one sister. The remains rested at the Futher-Omand Funeral Home, New Hamburg until Tuesday noon when they were removed to the United Missionary Church, Kitchener, for a service at 2 p.m. which was in charge of Rev. Allan Embree. Interment took place the Steinman Amish Mennonite Cemetery near Baden.

Wm. Iutzi Second Victim Of Auto Crash

William Iutzi of Baden died in St. Joseph's Hospital, London, On Tuesday night from injuries received in an auto accident near Elginfield on Sunday afternoon, September 12^th. His wife was instantly killed in the crash.

The accident occurred when the car in which they were passengers, and driven by Wm. Steckley of Milverton, collided with a car driven by Alfred Christiansen of Battle Creek, Michigan, and crashed into a tree.

Mr. Iutzi received severe internal injuries and had been in a critical condition at St. Joseph's Hospital, London, since the accident. Doctor's had hoped to perform an operation, but Mr. Iutzi did not rally sufficiently.

The late Mr. Iutzi was a prominent young farmer and was well known as a breeder of Holstein cattle and was active in agricultural and livestock organizations. He was a member of the Steinman Amish-Mennonite Church.

He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Z. Iutzi of Baden and was 43 years of age. Surviving him are two young daughters, Erma and Merle, his parents, two brothers, Wilfred at home and Roy, New Hamburg, three sisters, Mrs. Edna Herner and Mrs. Stanley Schmidt of Baden and Mrs. Eldon Gingerich, R.R. 2, New Hamburg.

The funeral will be held on Friday afternoon, October 1, with private service at the house at 2: 00 o'clock, followed by public service at the Steinman A.-M. Church at 2: 45 o'clock, and interment in the adjoining cemetery.

MRS. STANLEY SCHMIDT

Mrs. Stanley Schmidt, ol New Hamburg, formerly of Baden, died Thursday at St. Mary's Hospital in Kitchener, at the age of 56.

The former Elda Iutzi, she was born Aug. 13, 1911, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Iutzi. She was a member of the Steinman Mennonite Church.

Her husband and daughter, Shirley, died in 1966. She was also predeceased by a brother.

Surviving are a daughter. Mrs. Joseph (Fern) Martin of New Hamburg: two brothers. Wilfred and Roy both of Baden: two sisters. Mrs. Eldon (Eva) Gingerich of New Hamburg and Mrs Edna Herner of Baden and three grandchildren.

The Bruce J. Omand Funeral Home was in charge, and the service was held Sunday afternoon at Steinman Mennonite Church. Rev. Albert Zehr and Elmer Swartzentruber officiated and burial was in the church cemetery

On Sunday, Nov. 3, 1991, at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener. Reuben resided in New Hamburg and was formerly of RR 1, New Hamburg. He was born in Wilmot township 85 years ago, a son of the late Abraham and Leah (nee Roth) Gingerich. He was a member of the Steinman Mennonite Church, RR 1, Baden, and had been a volunteer at the Self-Help, New Hamburg. He was a member of the Especially for Seniors, Baden. Beloved husband of Fanny Kennel, whom he married November 28, 1934. Lovingly remembered by his children, Ray and his wife Bertha of Kitchener, Erma Bajusz of Windsor, Selma and her husband David Webster of Cambridge, Laverne and his wife Marjorie of RR 2, Baden, Leighton and his wife Donna of RR 2, Petersburg, Glen and his wife Darlene of New Hamburg, and Esther and her husband Glenn Buck of Gorrie. Sadly missed by 22 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; one brother, Rudy and his wife Edna of Baden; four sisters, Adeline and her husband Ezra Gerber of RR 1, Millbank, Sarah and her husband Allen Wagler of Baden, Mrs. Almeda (Eldon) Wagler of RR 2, Baden, Melinda and her husband Harold Hofstetter of RR 2, Petersburg. He was predeceased by two sons in infancy. Friends and relatives may call at the Mark Yutzi Funeral Home, 291 Huron St., New Hamburg, after 7 pm. today (Monday) and until Wednesday, Nov. 6, 1991 at noon, when transfer will be made to Steinman Mennonite Church for the service at 2 p.m. with Pastor Fred Lichti officiating. Interment in the church cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Mennonite Central Committee or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario.

Passed away, peacefully, in the presence of family, on Thursday, March 2, 2006 at her residence, Nithview Home, New Hamburg. Melinda was formerly of RR2 Petersburg. She was born 91 years ago in Wilmot Township a daughter of the late Abraham and Leah (Roth) Gingerich. Melinda was a member of Steinmann Mennonite Church, Baden where she had been involved with the W.M.S.C. and had taught adult Sunday school. Melinda had volunteered at Guelph Correctional Centre in the M2W2 program, with her husband, for many years and enjoyed sewing and knotting comforters for relief, gardening, flowers and time spent with her family. Beloved wife of the late Harold Hofstetter, who predeceased her April 5, 1996. Loving mother of Ken and his wife Anna Mae Hofstetter of Kitchener, Nyle and his wife Kathleen Hofstetter, and Laurene and her husband Doug Ferguson, all of Baden. Sadly missed by grandchildren Kevin Hofstetter, Patricia Hofstetter and partner Doug Lambert. Tammy Harnum, Larry Hofstetter. Brian Hofstetter, Marvin Hofstetter, Suzanne and husband Paul Brears. Sherry and husband Larry Dubue, Michael Ferguson and friend Zoe Chen and Andrew Ferguson and by great-grandchildren Hunter Lambert, Austin Harnum, MacKenzie and Madison Hofstetter, Emma, Erin and Lee Brears, Christine, Joseph, Jacob and Jessica Dubue. Dear sister-in-law of Edna Gingerich of Baden, as well as Hofstetter brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews. Melinda was predeceased by two great-grandsons, Lawrence and Jonathon Dubue and was the last surviving member of her family having been predeceased by brothers and sisters, Reuben and Fanny Gingerich, Adeline and Ezra Gerber, Sarah and Allen Wagler, Almeda and Eldon Wagler and Rudy Gingerich. Friends and relatives may call at Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 291 Huron St., New Hamburg, on Friday (tonight) from 7-9 p.m. and again Saturday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Sunday March 5, 2006 at 2 p.m. at Steinmann Mennonite Church with Pastor Steve Drudge officiating. Born in Wilmot township 92 years ago, son of the late Mose L.Jantzi and the late Lydia Gingerich. John was a member of the Bethel Conservative Mennonite Church in Millbank. He farmed near St. Agatha, retiring to Wellesley.

Dear brother of Mose G. Jantzi of Brunner and Amanda Jantzi of Brunner.

Predeceased by three sisters, Mary, Elmina, 1982 and Melinda, 1990. Also a brother, Elias, 1989.

Visitation at the Futher Bros. Funeral Home, 40 Henry St. W., in Wellesley, where family and friends will be received today (Saturday) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. At noon Sunday removal will be made to the Bethel Conservative Mennonite Church for the funeral service at 2: 30 p.m. Pastor John Yutzy will officiate. Passed away peacefully on Saturday January 14, 2017 at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener. Christina resided at Nithview Community. She was born 95 years ago in Wilmot Township and was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Katie (Steinman) Gingerich.

Beloved wife of the late Floyd Steinmann who predeceased her in 1973. Loving mother of Barb and Bruce Schumm, Brian and Karen Steinmann all of New Hamburg. Loving grandmother of Kevin (Jayne), Amy, David, Christine (Gerry), Jessica (Kevin), Jalyssa (Ryan), Jake (Kelly) and her great-grandchildren Preston, Quinn, Bennett, Logan, Mason and Natalie. Marie YANTZI - Marie Yantzi, 82, of RR2, Tavistock, at Sebastopol, passed away in Stratford General Hospital, on Friday, December 3, 2004, to be present with her Lord. She was born in Wilmot Township, Waterloo County on October 13, 1922, a daughter of the late John Z. Gingerich and the former Annie Steinman. She was a member of Grace Mennonite Church, Wilmot Township and the former Maple Grove Mennonite Church. Marie is survived by her husband, Omer Yantzi, whom she married at Steinman Mennonite Church, Wilmot Township on June 5, 1952; four children, Timothy and his wife Judy Yantzi, Richard and his wife Darlene Yantzi, Sharon and her husband Wayne Ropp, all of RR2, Tavistock; Stephen and his wife Lisa Yantzi of New Hamburg; 16 Grandchildren; her sister and brother-in-law, Martha and Gerald Schwartzentruber of New Hamburg; sisters-in-law, Agnes Gingerich of Kitchener, Ruby Gingerich of Baden and several "Yantzi" brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. She was predeceased by her brothers, Orland Gingerich and Alvin Gingerich and "Yantzi" brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Relatives and friends will be received in the Francis Funeral Home, 77 Woodstock Street North, Tavistock tonight (Saturday) from 7-9 p.m. and Sunday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. The graveside committal service will be held at the East Zorra Mennonite Cemetery, 16th line on Monday, December 6, 2004 at 1 p.m. followed by a funeral service in East Zorra Mennonite Church at 2 p.m. Pastor Earl Koch and Pastor Howard Bean will officiate. Alvin Gingerich died April 30, 2004 at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener, age 77. He was born November 18, 1926 in Wilmot Township. Alvin resided in Baden and was a son of the late John Z. and Annie (Steinman) Gingerich. Alvin was an active member of Steinman Mennonite Church, Baden where he had been an elder. He enjoyed interacting with people and loved church, family and community history. Prior to retirement Alvin had operated a dairy farm near Baden on the family homestead and more recently was a dealer for Pickseed Company. Beloved husband of Ruby Wagler whom he married May 28, 1955. Loving father of Laura Anne Gingerich and Ivan Huska of Vancouver, BC, Sam and Mary Lou Gingerich of Baden, Heidi and Gord McHugh of Oakville and Katherine Hyde of Kitchener. Sadly missed by grandchildren Shael and Sage Huska, Brandon and Ben Gingerich, Aaron, Nolan and Ethan McHugh and Jonathan and Justin Hyde. Dear brother of Marie and Omer Yantzi of Tavistock and Martha and Gerald Schwartzentruber of New Hamburg. Roth.-John W., oldest son of Nick D. and Mary (Wagler) Roth, was born near Tavistock, Ont., Jan. 2, 1892; died Oct. 10, 1928; aged 36 y. 9 m. 8 d. He was married to Barbara S. Bender, Oct. 11, 1916. No children survive except an adopted daughter. He lived in Canada all his life and was never ill. He had united with the Amish Mennonite Church near East Zorra and remained a member till his death, which was sudden and a great shock to many. He was drawing his last load of gravel for the day when he was killed by a passenger train. Both arms and legs were severed and his skull was fractured. He was taken to the hospital but died a few minutes after the accident, without regaining consciousness. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife and daughter, parents who live at Clarence, N. Y., 4 brothers, 5 sisters, grandparents, and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at the home of his wife's parents by Daniel Steinman in German and Peter Nafziger in English. Burial took place in the East Zorra Cemetery. The funeral sermon was preached by his uncle, Daniel Yutzi.

Born in East Zorra Township, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Roth. He lived in the New Hamburg area most of his life until moving to Tavistock in 1968. He had worked at Hahn Brass Co. Ltd. and was a member of East Zorra Mennonite Church.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, the former Edna Mae Erb, in 1963, a son, a sister and a brother.

Schwartzentruber, Elizabeth --On Sunday July 22, 1990, at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener, Elizabeth Schwartzentruber, of Nithview Home, New Hamburg, and formerly of Shingletown.

She was born in North Easthope township 85 years ago. A daughter of the late Christian Z. Wagler and the former Fanny Schwartzentruber. She was a member of St. Agatha Mennonite Church, where she was a member of the WMSC and enjoyed quilting as a hobby.

Beloved wife of Allen Schwartzentruber who she married January 29, 1925. Lovingly remembered by three sons, Kenneth and his wife Grace of Campinas, S.P., Brazil, Vernon and his wife June of Kitchener, Leonard and his wife Delphine of RR 1, New Hamburg; one daughter-in-law, Eleanor (Mrs. Gerald Roth) of New Hamburg. Sadly missed by 15 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Lavina (Mrs. Solomon Schwartzentruber) of New Hamburg, Alice Mary Wagler of Kitchener, Lauretta and her husband Louis Lichti of RR 1, Shakespeare; one brother, Kenneth J. Schwartzentruber, Mrs. Lavina - Passed away on Friday, September 5, 1997 at her residence, Nithview Home, New Hamburg. Lavina was born 90 years ago in South Easthope Township and was a daughter of the late Christian Z. Wagler and Veronica Schwartzentruber. She was a member of Steinman Mennonite Church, RR 2 Baden where she had also been a member of the WMSC.

Beloved wife of the late Solomon Schwartzentruber, who predeceased her in 1973. Dear mother of Nelson and his wife Irma, Elroy and his wife Alta, all of Waterloo, Harold and his wife Delores of RR 2 Baden and Grace and her husband Raymond Schwartzentruber of Tavistock. She is fondly remembered by 17 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Alice Wagler of Kitchener, Lauretta and her husband Louis Lichti of RR 1 Shakespeare; a brother Kenneth Wagler of Nile. Also remembered by two brothers-in-law Elmer Schwartzentruber and Lloyd and his wife Pearl Yantzi, all of New Hamburg.

Predeceased by two sisters, Elizabeth and her husband Allen Schwartzentruber and Mrs. Katie Yantzi. Beloved husband of the former Katie Albrecht; dear father of Bertha (Mrs. Allen McCurdy) of RR 7, Woodstock and Jean (Mrs. Herb Hammer) of Baden. Also surviving are nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Reuben of Tavistock, Noah of Bancroft and two sisters, Mrs. Matilda Zehr of New Hamburg and Emma (Mrs. Norman Lowes) of Woodstock.

He was predeceased by his parents, the late Noah M. Roth and the former Mary Zehr and two sisters, Lavina Zehr and Anna Mae Baechler.
Resting at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, New Hamburg Chapel, 291 Huron St., after 2 p.m. this afternoon and until noon Wednesday, when removal will be made to Hillcrest Mennonite Church for service at 2:30 p.m., with Rev. Gerald Good officiating. Burial to follow in the 16^th Line East Zorra Mennonite cemetery.

As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetic Association or the Mennonite Central Committee.

BAECHLER - Annie Baechler, daughter of Noah M. and Mary (Zehr) Roth, was born in Waterloo Co., Ont., June 27, 1915; died Oct. 17, 1935; aged 20 y. 3 m. 20 d. She accepted Christ as her Savior and was baptized by Bishop D. S. Iutzi on Nov. 20, 1930, remaining a member of the East Zorra A. M. congregation to the end. On Sept. 2, 1934, she joined in holy wedlock to Arthur Baechler. This union was blessed with one son, Delford, who with his father survives to mourn her early and untimely departure. They lived in matrimony 1 year, 1 month and 15 days. She also leaves her parents, 3 sisters, 3 brothers, 4 grandparents. Services were held in the home by Bro. M. Kuepfer, and at the East Zorra meeting house, near Tavistock, by Brethren M. Roth, Peter Nafziger, and D. S. Iutzi. Interment in adjoining cemetery.

Vera is predeceased by her brothers Daniel and wife Dorothy Zehr and William and wife Florence Zehr. She will be missed by many nieces and nephews as well as her many friends. Vera was a member of the Living Water Community Christian Fellowship in New Hamburg and worked as a House Keeper at the Grand River Hospital, Kitchener. She was an avid quilter, gardener and enjoyed spending her time volunteering at Self Help.

Lovingly remembered by his children, Larry of Baden, Jeanette and her husband David Quast of RR2, Baden, Leonard and his wife Dale of Fox crekk, Alta, Judy and her husband Ernie Dreher of RR2, Petersburg, Debbie and her husband Wald Hoffman of Baden, David and Gregg, both of Kitchener. He farmed for many years near Mannheim and New Dundee, and, along with his family, owned and operated Dundee Recycling. Bill was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Mannheim. He spent many years travelling to Texas and Arizona, was an avid card player, NASCAR fan and an International Harvestor collector and enthusiast. Bill enjoyed waterskiing, snowmobiling, dancing and spending time with his children and grandchildren. Beloved husband of Irene (Hartmann) Kropf, whom he married May 2, 1953.
