Joseph Walker, the father, immediately took up the 200 acres where Mrs. Thos. Walker now resides, but merely held the title until his son, Thomas, of this sketch, was of age to work it and which he commenced to do about 1845. In 1854 he was married to Maria Illingworth, who still survives at the ripe age of 80 years. Nine children were born to them: Sarah, Mrs. T. B. Puddicombe, William, deceased, Henry of Haysville, Joseph S., Barrister, of London, Annie M., Mrs. Geo. Veitch, Plattsville, Thos. G., on the homestead, Ida E., Mrs. John McCallum, Shakespeare, Fred J., of Stratford, Clara I., at home. The house has been the scene of much hospitality in which both Mr. and Mrs. Walker delighted.

    Notes:

Miss Clarissa Illingworth Walker - Following an illness of over eight months, borne with the utmost Christian fortitude there passed to her rest, at her residence, "Cedar Lawn" Huron Road, Wilmot Township, Miss Clarissa Illingworth Walker, on Saturday, August 8th. She was a daughter of the late Thomas Walker and Maria Illingworth, pioneer residents of Wilmot Township, and lived all her life at the family homestead.

Miss Walker was an active and regular worshipper at St. James' Church, Wilmot, and Christ Church, Haysville. For over 40 years she presided at the organ in St. James, the mother church of Wilmot Parish. She was the Hon. Pres. Of the Wilmot branch of the Women's Auxiliary, a life member as well, and one of the few Charter Members of this branch formed 43 years ago. Miss Walker was always devoted to the work of the church, but specially its missionary work. She was one of those rare and noble spirits of god who are always such an example and inspiration by their devotion to the higher things of life. None could be more highly respected and beloved throughout the Parish.

The Women's Institute and kindred community work also had its place in the life of Miss Walker. She was a past President of the W.I. and an always interested worker in anything that stood for the welfare of the community and church.

The funeral took place on Tuesday the 11th inst., from the family residence, following a brief service for the family. The public service was held at St. James' Church, which was filled with sorrowing friends and neighbors, the interment taking place in the family plot adjoining. The service was taken by the Rector, Rev. J. H. Pogson, the simple and beautiful Anglican burial service making a deep impression on all present. Sorrow and triumph, dignity and simplicity, were the outstanding features of the service. Sorrow, because of the departure of one greatly beloved, and who had been such a useful servant of god. Triumph, because of the close of a life lived close to and in full trust in her Saviour. Favorite hymns used were: "For all the saints who from their labours rest"; "Jesus the very thought of Thee"; "Art thou weary, art thou languid"?

The pallbearers were all nephews, R.T. Puddicombe and F.T. Walker, of Haysville, A.I. and T.F. Walker, of London, and K.K. Walker and R.M. Puddicombe of Toronto.

HAYSVILLE BOY WAS BURIED NEAR VIMY RIDGE

Henry Walker, of Haysville, who is well-known ip Kitchener was a visitor at the Court House on Saturday where he called on his old schoolmaster, Governor Cook, and his old schoolmate County Clerk Cassel. Mr. Walker recently sacrificed his son Clinton Tye Walker in the battle of Vimy Ridge. Pte. Walker was a member of the 111th Battalion and was only in the trenches when he met his death. The heroic young man made the supreme sacrifice as he was charging with his company up the steep declivity of the ridge. He was hit by a shell. His father stated this morning that he received word from the front that his boy was buried near where he fell and that a number of his comrades, who were brother Masons, held the Masonic ceremonial over his grave and also hung a Masonic emblem on the cross which stands at the head of the young hero.
