MARTIN.--Albert Martin was born June 22, 1880; died Sept. 3, 1930; aged 50 y. 2 m. 11 d. On April 15, 1908, he was married to Susanna Musser. To this union were born four children (Edgar, Delton, Vietta, and Mabel). Bro. Martin had a paralytic stroke over a year ago, from which he never fully recovered. He lost his speech was almost entirely. He was able to be up and around until just before he died, which was very sudden, almost before he could be taken in the house. He was a faithful member of the Floradale, Ont., Mennonite Church. The family needs our prayers and sympathy. Bros. Abram Gingerich and Moses Brubacher had charge of the services.

She was the former Lydia Ann Martin, and was born in Peel Township, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Noah B. Martin. She was predeceased by her husband in 1944. Surviving are two sons, Irvin and Elam, both of RR 2, Wallenstein, two daughters, Belinda of Elmira and Mrs. Rachael Gingrich of RR 2, Wallenstein; a sister, Mrs. Isaiah Bauman, RR 2, Wallenstein, 22 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by three brothers and four sisters. The body was at the Dreisinger Funeral Parlor, Elmira, until Tuesday morning when removal was made to her home for funeral service Wednesday at 9 a.m. followed by another service at South Peel Mennonite Meeting House. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery.

Nelson Martin 65, of 103 Arthur St., Elmira, died Wednesday in the K-W Hospital after a short illness. A native of Peel township. he had lived in Elmira 21 years where he was employed with the Klinck Milling Company. He was a member of Elmira Mennonite Church.

Surviving are his wife the former Mary Ann Westfail three sons, Urias, R.R. 2, West Montrose; Nelson, Jr.. of Heidelberg and Abner at home; three daughters. Lucinda of Kitchener; Mrs. Leonard (Alvina) Woolner, R.R. 3. Kitchener and Mrs. Edwin (Mary Ann) Metzger, R.R. 1. West Montrose. one brother. Amos of Elmira: two sisters. Mrs. Israel Martin and Mrs. Isaiah Bauinan, both of Wallenstein, and four grandchildren.

The body was at the Dreisinger Funeral Parlor here un'il Satur day. The funeral was conducted at Elmira Mennonite Church Saturday by Bishop Oliver Snider and Rev Howard Bauman. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery.

WALLENSTEIN— Suffering from injuries received when kicked by a horse about 18 months ago, Leander Bowman, 20, of Wallenstein passed away at the K.-W. Hospital on Monday morning. The young man had been in fair health until about three months ago when he was taken to the hospital and after several operations failed to respond. Surviving are his parents, Mr, and Mrs. Samuel F. Bowman, two brothes, Edwin of the 3rd of Peel, Noah at home, also five sisters, Mrs. Elias Bauman of Wallenstein, Mrs. Peter Metzger of St. Clements. Mrs. Tilman Brubacher of Winfield, Salina and Minerva at home. The funeral was held on Wednesday morning from his home about one mile west of Wallenstein to the Peel Mennonite Church with burial in the adjoining cemetery. Rev. A. Lucinda (Cindy) Bolger of Waterloo, born: Sept. 25, 1921, in Yatton, Ont., died: Dec. 6, 2017, of age-related illness

Cindy Martin was only 12 years old when she left home to work as a mother's helper, where the jobs usually entailed assisting a pregnant mother around the time of birth. These were all temporary positions and it would soon be time to move on, a total of 40 different households before something stirred in Cindy, something that made her decide to make more of her life.

Born the eldest of six into an Old Order Mennonite family in Yatton, in rural Waterloo near Elmira, expectations for the child were limited by her upbringing.

Cindy wrote in her memoir how her parents thought she might possibly complete Grade 8 but they knew with certainly she would end up being a "submissive wife" with a whole passel of kids.

Cindy had seen her fair share of Mennonite women on the farm, working hard, raising families. She was having none of it and surprisingly, her parents supported their head strong, determined daughter. Cindy would eventually become a nurse and nursing instructor as well as a bit of a mother hen to dozens of student nurses at what was then called Kitchener-Waterloo Hospital School of Nursing.

Cindy's rise to this position came after years of struggle.

In his eulogy, oldest son Jim Bolger recalled how his mother's early days were shadowed by extreme poverty.

"Many would describe her family as 'poor Nelson Martin's family' often dependent on others for food and money," he said.....

Elvina Woolner (nee Martin) completed her earthly journey after a short battle with COVID-19 at the age of 95. She was predeceased by her husband Leonard, son Jerry, and siblings Cindy, Urias, Maryann, Nelson, and Abner. She will be deeply missed by her three daughters Sharon (Larry), Marlene (Dave), and Gloria (Steve); 7 grandchildren Laura, Kathryn, Jackie, Joanna, Adam, Jessica, and Becky; and 12 great-grandchildren Caleb, Brenna, Halle, Clayton, Yuna, Elora, Ara, Isaiah, Jia, Jadon, Alex, and Jessica's soon-to-be born baby. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Vera and Ann, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Elvina cherished her relationships with her many dear friends and neighbours who appreciated her spirited wit, caring heart, generous hospitality, and memorable meals. Many hours were spent reminiscing about life on the farm and sharing her joy of gardening. Elvina was an avid scrabble player and jumble scrambler and was rarely seen without a book in her hand. Every evening at 7:30 you could find her watching Jeopardy. She enjoyed music and singing and always loved when her grandchildren and great-grandchildren sang her favourite songs like Suppertime, I Come to the Garden Alone, and Sleep My Child. Elvina was an active member at First Mennonite Church in Kitchener and later attended Bethany Community Church in St. Catharines. Her enduring faith in God sustained her through challenging times. She leaves a legacy of faith for us to carry on.
The family would like to express their gratitude to all the staff at Tabor Manor in St. Catharines who loved and cared for Elvina. Thank you for your exceptional care, compassion, and expert knowledge.

Ab was employed at Canada Trust for 43 years, having managed the Elmira branch for 27 years. He loved hockey and baseball, volunteering, and spending time with his family.

Just 3 days shy of her 90th birthday, Gert (or Trudy as she was known to some) passed away peacefully. Predeceased by her husband Donald and her parents Edith and Emerson Martin, she is survived by her children Rod (Sharon), Ken (Kathryn), Don, and Ric (Leslie). Her flock included 12 grandchildren; Michael, Brad, Heather, Scott, Amy, Mark, Megan, Lisa Marie, Melodie, Krystal, Zachary, and Jeremy and 10 great- grandchildren; Alexandra, Sarah, Spencer, Morgan, Grayson, Emily, Mason, Sadie, Wellington and Ripley, all of whom she loved and who loved her as a grandmother and great-grandmother. She is also survived by her brother Erle Martin (Anne) and her sister-in-law Jean Trapp. Gert spent many hours in arenas following her sons' hockey careers. Her time in Elmira was spent in many community activities which included being a Charter Member of the Elmira Royal Canadian Legion and the Elmira Curling Club. She was a lifelong member of St. James Lutheran Church in Elmira. She was well known in standard bred racing circles as she, Don, and Don Jr. raced horses in Canada and the United States. She was well known for her spirit, sense of humour, and her pride in her family. Special thanks to the medical staff on the Grand River Hospital 6th floor and Freeport for the loving and tender care provided in her last days and to the folks at St. Jacobs Place who provided such a caring home for her. Visitation will take place at the Dreisinger Funeral Home in Elmira on Thursday, August 14 from 7-9 p.m. and on Friday, August 15 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral will be at St. James Lutheran Church, Elmira at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 16.
