    W. Melville Veitch Passes

    W. Melville Veitch, St. Jacobs, died Wednesday in Kitchener-Waterloo Hospital after a brief illness. He was 80.

    Mr. Veitch was born near Galt, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert J. Veitch. He lived in St. Jacobs for the past two years and formerly at Roseville for many years. He farmed near Roseville and following his retirement from the farm he worked at Simpson's Sawmill, Galt, for 20 years.

    He was formerly a member of the Waterloo Township Public School Board and a director of the Waterloo Township Plowing Match. He was a member of the Roseville United Church.

    Predeceased by his wife, the former Gertrude Viola Fried, Mr. Veitch is survived by one son, Robert, and a daughter, Mrs. George (Marguerite) Rieck, both of Kitchener; a brother, Clare, of Brussels; two sisters, Mrs. William (Mae) Edgar and Mrs. Albert (Jennie) Ritchie, both of Ayr; and three grand-children.

    Rev. G. F. Jackson and Rev. Schlenker conducted funeral and committal service Saturday afternoon from the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home, Kitchener. Burial in Roseville Cemetery.

    Mrs. William Edgar Mrs. Mice Mae Edgar of Eventide Home, Galt, passed away on Sunday, February 3rd, 1985. She was in her 92nd year. The former A. Mae Veitch, she was the wife of the late William G. Edgar (1973). Mrs. Edgar was a member of Knox's Galt Presbyterian Church, the Evening Auxiliary, WMS Knox's Church and a lifelong member of the Women's Institute. Loving mother of Alex and Robert, both of Ayr, Dorothy (Mrs. Clifford Scott) of Chatham, Jean (Mrs. William Stager) of Mississauga, Marjorie (Mrs. Robert McLeod) of RR 4, Cambridge, and Dr. Hugh W. of London, Ont.; loved by 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Survived by a brother, Clare Veitch of Brussels and a sister, Mrs. Jennie Ritchie of Ayr. Predeceased by brother, Melville. Funeral service was held Wednesday, February 6th (today) at 1: 30 p.m. at Little's Funeral Home, Galt. Rev. G. Timbers and Major Walker officiated. Interment in Ayr Cemetery.

    Robert Fried Veitch passed away in Cambridge Memorial Hospital on Saturday, September 2nd, 1995. Bob was born on October 10, 1918 in Roseville, Ont. He was a retired employee of J.M. Schneider Inc. and a member of Erb Street Mennonite Church. Son of the late W. Melville and Gertrude (Fried) Veitch. He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by his wife, Bertha; his son, Robert and his wife Grace and their children, Sheri, Rebecca and Scott; a sister, Marguerite and her husband George Rieck. Mr. Veitch's family received friends on Sunday at Fairview Mennonite Home and on Monday at the Edward R. Good Funeral Home, Waterloo. At noon Tuesday transfer was made to Erb Street Mennonite Church for funeral service at 2 p.m. with Rev. Renee Sauder and Mr. Doug Snyder officiating. Interment followed in Erb Street Mennonite Cemetery, Waterloo.

    Alex M. Edgar

    A lifelong resident of the Reidsville area, Alexander McAllister Edgar, passed away at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener, on Friday, February 21, 1997. He was in his 77th year. Born on the home farm, Alps Road, RR 1, Ayr, where he farmed all his life, he was a son of William G. Edgar and Alice Mae Veitch. Alex was a past member of the Ayr Lodge A.F. & A.M. No. 172, was active in Knox United Church, Ayr, having served fifteen years as elder and was also on the board of managers. His hobby of acquiring and restoring antique tractors and engines resulted in his having one of the finest collections of these in the province. He had exhibited at the Steam Era Show in Milton every year for the past 36 years. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Marion (Ford) Edgar; a daughter, Carol of Ottawa and a son, Lyle of Ayr. Also survived by his brothers, Robert Edgar of Ayr, Dr. Hugh Edgar of London and sisters, Dorothy (Mrs. Clifford Scott) of Chatham, Jean (Mrs. William Stager) of Oakville and Marjorie (Mrs. Robert McLeod) of RR 4, Cambridge and 15 nieces and nephews. Rested at the Ayr Chapel, Wm. Kipp Funeral Home, where funeral service was held on Tuesday with Rev. Fred Hagle officiating. Interment Ayr Cemetery.

    Robert Edgar

    Ayr resident, William Robert Edgar of Colquhoun Street, died at Cambridge Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, December 15th, 1999. He was in his 79th year. Born in Ayr, Robert was a son of the late Mae Veitch and William Gray Edgar. He was a veteran of the Second World War serving with the Merchant Marines between Canada and Great Britain. He was a 32-year member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 121, Galt and a member of the Royal Canadian Naval Association, South Waterloo. He was employed with Air Canada as cargo facilities and equipment manager for 33 years. After his retirement in 1977, he and his wife, the late Jeanette Burnett (1998) divided their time between their homes in Ayr, Florida and Beachburg. Mr. Edgar was an avid car collector. He will be missed by three sisters, Dorothy and her husband Clifford Scott of Chatham, Jean and her husband William Stager of Oakville, Marjorie and her husband Robert McLeod of RR 1, Ayr; one brother, Dr. Hugh Edgar and his wife Margaret of London; sister-in-law Marion Edgar of Ayr ; and by nieces and nephews, Bill, Kathy, Dan, Terry, Norm, David, Margaret, Graeme, Sheila, Cameron, Heather, Duncan, Carol, Lyle and Greg. He was predeceased by his brother Alex Edgar. Funeral service was held at the Ayr Chapel, Wm. Kipp Funeral Home on Friday, December 17th at 1: 30 p.m. Dr. Linda Ewing officiated. Interment was in Ayr Cemetery.

    Greenfield Road ( RR 1, Ayr) resident, Marjorie Mae McLeod, died at Cambridge Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, December 21st, 1999. She was in her 72nd year. Born in North Dumfries Township, she was a daughter of the late Alice Mae Veitch and William Gray Edgar. Marj was a friend to the many students who rode with her on her school bus route for many years. She was a long-time member of Knox United Presbyterian Church, Galt and was a volunteer with the Canadian Cancer Society offering her support to other cancer patients. She will be missed by her husband, Robert McLeod; her children, Bill and his wife Peggy of RR 1, Ayr, Kathy White of Richmond Hill, Dan and his wife Barbara of Plattsville, Terry McLeod of Cambridge and Norm and his wife Sylvia of Kitchener; grandchildren Nathan, Oedyia, Kitt, Lee, Clayt, Julia and great-granddaughter Cheyenne; sisters, Dorothy and her husband Clifford Scott, Jean and her husband Bill Stager; brother Dr. Hugh Edgar and his wife Margaret; mother-in-law, Viola McLeod of New Hamburg and sisters-in-law Marion Edgar of Ayr and Naomi and her husband Marshall of Glen Mills, Pennsylvania. Predeceased by brothers Alex and Bob. Friends were received at the Ayr Chapel, Wm. Kipp Funeral Home then to Knox Presbyterian Church, Galt, where funeral service was held on Friday, December 24th, at 11 a.m. Rev. Wayne Davis officiated with Dr. Linda Ewing assisting. Interment was in Ayr Cemetery.
