    DEATH CLAIMS FORMER HEAD OF YWCA

    Mrs. Fred H. Schneider, 3453 King Street East, died yesterday at K-W Hospital. Her husband is President of J. M. Schneider, Ltd., Kitchener meat packers. The former Ella Daniels, Mrs. Schneider was born in Indianapolis, Ind., daughter of the late Rev. Eugene Davidson Daniels and Ella Graves.

    ACTIVE IN AUXILIARY

    She was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd. She was active in the church's Ladies Auxiliary, having served as president and secretary. In addition, she was a past president of the YWCA here and the Ladies Auxiliary of the K-W YMCA. Surviving besides her husband, are a son Frederick P. Schneider of Kitchener, a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Jean May) Hawkings of Deep River, Ont.; two sisters, Miss Lilian Daniels of Kitchener and Mrs. Harvey (Stella) Hunt of San Antonio, Tex. and six grandchildren.

    The body will be at the Schreiter-Sandrock Funeral Home until Saturday at 1 p.m. then at the Church of the Good Shepherd where friends are asked to pay their respects prior to the service.

    BURIAL IN WOODLAND

    The funeral will be conducted at 2.30 p.m. with Rev. David Johnston, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. Contributions to the K-W Rotary Children's Centre and to the Canadian Cancer Society will be accepted as expressions of sympathy

    Ella was the organist at the New Jerusalem Church. She had studied at the Hamburg Conservatory of Music in Toronto and with private teachers; also with Miss Hazel Harris of Chicago who starred in Europe.

    Passed away peacefully at Columbia Forest Long Term Care, Waterloo on July 30, 2011, at the age of 88.

    Born in Kitchener on March 18, 1923, daughter of Frederick and Ella Schneider. Devoted wife of the late Robert Hawkings (2005) of Deep River. Loving mother of Rob Hawkings and his wife Angela Kondrak of Deep River; Bruce Hawkings and his wife Rhonda of Waterloo Ontario, and Jim Hawkings and his wife Beth of Whitehorse Yukon. Cherished grandmother of Johanna and Ben Haas, Mitchell, and Keegan Hawkings and Lee and Adrian Hawkings. Dear sister of Fred Schneider and his wife Jane of Waterloo.

    Jean was a life-long member of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Kitchener, and during her many years in Deep River, was also an active member of the Deep River Community Church. She graduated from McMaster University, Hamilton in 1943 and then served with the Royal Canadian Air Force as a photographer for the remainder of WWII.

    Post-war, Jean moved to Deep River with her husband Bob in the early days of AECL's Chalk River Nuclear Laboratories. In her 60's & 70's, she was active with the Canadian Federation of University Women in Waterloo.

    There will be a memorial service at The Church of the Good Shepherd in Kitchener, Ontario (details to be announced at a later date).

    Memorial donations may be made to Church of the Good Shepherd, Salvation Army or the Alzheimer Society of KW.

    SCHNEIDER Former Schneider Corporation chair Fred Schneider, at the annual meeting held at the Holiday Inn in 1998. Schneider died at age 85 on Monday. One of the last members of the Schneider family to run the landmark food-processing company has died. Frederick P. Schneider - whose tenure with the family firm began during summer holidays as a young man and spanned more than four decades until his retirement as chair of Schneider Corp. in 1992 - died Monday at the age of 85. A noted environmentalist, Schneider and his wife, Jane, shared the trails, woodlands and swamps of their rural Wilmot Township property with all those who respect the land, and spoke out against the encroachment of urban sprawl on the sensitive Waterloo moraine

    Schneider, Frederick Paul

    Beloved husband of Jane, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family, at home in Wilmot Township, on Monday, September 19, 2011. Fred is survived by his wife Jane, children Peter Frederick Patel-Schneider (Sandhya), Daniel John Schneider (Rhona Hanning), Anne Cecile Fontana (Fabrizio), Margaret Ella Schneider (Gareth Jones), Thomas Ervin Schneider (Susan Smith). Fred had 11 grandchildren, Matthew, Mara, Andrew, Kiera, Adam, Sophie, Frances, Katie, Corin, Aidan and Ella. Frederick Paul Schneider was born March 14, 1926 in Kitchener, the second child of Frederick Henry Schneider and Ella Eugenia Schneider (nee Daniels) and brother to Jean May Hawkings. After obtaining a BA degree from McMaster University and a Master of Commerce degree from the University of Toronto, Fred joined the family firm, J. M. Schneider Ltd., in 1949 and held various roles including President, CEO and Chairman. He retired from active service in 1989 and as Chairman of the Board in 1992. A noted environmentalist, Fred planted thousands of trees during his life, supported land stewardship and enjoyed the outdoors and gardening. He spent many hours hiking, cross-country skiing and creating trails on his farm in Wilmot Township. Fred spent many years on the board of the KW Symphony Orchestra and was also a prominent supporter of local chamber music and opera. He was a strong advocate for the building of the Centre in the Square, insisting on world class acoustics as the top priority. Although he never considered himself a musician, Fred loved to sing. A gathering to celebrate Fred's life and share memories with his family will take place in the Studio of the Centre in the Square, 101 Queen Street North, Kitchener, on Friday, November 4th and Saturday the 5th from 6: 00 p.m. to 7: 30 p.m. The Studio entrance is on Ellen Street. The family is sponsoring the November 4th and 5th concerts of the K-W Symphony Signature Series in honour of Fred's life-long love of music, and his ongoing wish that the symphony remain an integral part of the Waterloo Region.
