WATERLOO REGION - Local radio personality Jennifer Campbell died on Saturday of cancer.

Campbell was a longtime morning show host on Country 106.7 in Kitchener.

"This is sad news for anyone reading or hearing this as we know Jennifer was such a strong fighter. Know that your prayers, positive vibes, messages and virtual hugs helped Jennifer immensely throughout her battle," the station shared in a post on its Facebook page.

Being a radio host was more than just a job for Campbell, it read. She used her voice and influence to spread love, make people laugh and sometimes "kick the hornet's nest."

"We will always love Jennifer; she'll always be in our hearts. Her memory will live on through songs on the radio forever."

There was an outpouring of condolences on social media from people across Waterloo Region. Campbell was called fearless, strong and a force for good in the community.

Kitchener Mayor Berry Vrbanovic said on Twitter that the city "lost a great lady." He called Campbell "a talented broadcaster, a fierce feminist & a loving partner & mom. Our hearts go out to her boys, family & colleagues. Jenn's legacy will be our efforts to build a more just community!"

Sara Casselman, executive director of the Sexual Assault Support Centre of Waterloo Region, said "this is such a heartbreaking loss for our community." Campbell "was salt-of-the-earth, and truly committed to social justice and equality. I'm so grateful to have known her."

Campbell publicly shared her battle with cancer, saying in a tweet last July: "I have cancer. I am fighting."

On that platform, she described herself as "bad girl turned mediocre mama. Boot stomper, proud snowflake, amateur chef, wine/whiskey lover, beach bum & fan of the audacious."

Campbell leaves behind her husband Scott and three boys Ayson, Declan, and Gryffin.

A GoFundMe account was set up for her family.
