Mayer. - Mary Jutzi Mayer, wife of John L. Mayer, was born Nov. 26, 1860 in Waterloo Co., Ont.; died at her home near Pigeon, Mich., Aug. 29, 1931. On Dec. 4, 1883, she was united in marriage to John Mayer who preceded her to the glory world about five months ago. She leaves to mourn her departure: 4 children, two daughters, Mrs. Ben Gingerich of Kalona, Ia., and Lydia at home; two sons, Solomon and Ezra of Windsor township; 14 grandchildren; 1 brother, John Jutzi of Ont., Canada; and a host of relatives and friends. One daughter Emma, Mrs. Joel Widrich of N Y., preceded her in death 13 years ago. In her youth she accepted Christ as her personal Savior and became a member of the Amish Mennonite Church. She was a faithful member to the end. Her chief aim and desire was to see her children faithful in the Lord, which was her daily prayer. By her departure we keenly feel our loss of a mother's devoted prayer life. In her last days she often expressed her desire to go home but always was resigned to the Lord's will. Her health failed the last two years and her death was caused by a sudden attack of dropsy of which she became a victim seven weeks before she died. Funeral services were held at the Pigeon River Church, August 31, conducted by Edwin Albrecht in English, text, II Pet. 1:14, 15; and in German by M. S. Zehr. text, II Tim. 3:6-8. Ben Swartzendruber of California also took part in the services.

Jutzi.-Jacob B., son of Samuel and Catherine (Brenneman) Jutzi, was born April 11. 1882, in Perth Co., Ont.; died at his home in Baden, Ont., Nov. 28, 1937, of heart disease and complications; aged 55 y. 7 m. 17 d. He united with the Amish Mennonite Church in his youth and remained faithful to the end. In the year 1906 he united in holy matrimony with Leah, daughter of the late Samuel and Mattie (Lebold) Bender. To this union were born 1 daughter (Salome, Mrs. Christian Zehr), and 3 sons (Samuel, Emerson, and Alvin). They lived together 9 y. 10 m. 18 d. On Sept. 19, 1917, he was united in holy matrimony to Fannie, daughter of Christian and Leah (Zehr) Gascho. To this union was born 1 daughter (Ada Leah). He had been in poor health for almost a year; had not been able to work since May. Several times for a period of 10 days he was confined to his bed for rest, which always seemed to do him good; but he gradually became weaker. Nov. 7 he took a turn for the worse and was confined to bed for 3 weeks, from which he never arose. Having enlargement of the heart, pneumonia set in, and on the 23rd he had a paralytic stroke. He was conscious almost to the end. He bore his suffering with much patience, and that sweet smile when one of his family would come near him, will never be forgotten. Although at times he was very delirious, the Christ-life would shine in him. He had been a Sunday-school teacher for many years and the Bible was his chief reading. He was fully resigned to the will of God, but often expressed his grief to leave his family behind. With a wave of his hand he bade us all good-bye and on a Sunday noon he left us for the great beyond. He leaves his bereaved widow, 2 daughters, 3 sons, 1 grandson, all of Baden; 2 brothers (Solomon of Albany, Oreg., and Daniel of Milverton, Ont.), 1 sister (Mary, Mrs. Ends Schultz of Milverton). His brother John, and sister Catherine, and his parents predeceased him. Funeral services were held Dec. 1, at his late residence in Baden, conducted by Peter Boshart, and at Steinmans church of which he was a member, conducted by the home bishop, Moses 0. Jantzi in German (Text, Psa. 39 : 4, 5) and Moses Schantz in English (Text, II Cor. 4: 17). Burial in adjoining cemetery.

Horse's Kick Proves Fatal Noah Kropf Died in Stratford Hospital
Kicked in the head by a horse on the farm of his sister, Mrs. Noah Brenneman, on Lot 8 Con. 3, South Easthope, about five miles southwest of New Hamburg, Noah Kropf, aged 54 died in the Stratford hospital on Wednesday morning without regaining consciousness. The accident occurred last Saturday evening when Mr. Kropf let two horses out of the stable to put into pasture. Following the horses out of the stable door, one of them reared and kicked him above the eye from which he suffered a fractured skull and terrible head injuries. He was found unconscious in the barnyard and was rushed to the Stratford hospital for treatment, but from the outset no hope was held out for his recovery. The unfortunate accident victim was a son of the late Christian Kropf and was born near Cassel on September 17th, 1878. He spent his whole life in that district. Since his brother-in-law, Noah Bender, who died a few months ago, purchased the farm of the late Nicholas Roth in South Easthope, the deceased lived with his sister, who survives him besides two other sisters, Mrs. Peter B. Zehr, of South Easthope, and Mrs. Joseph J. Bender, of the Wilmot Township line, west of this village. The deceased was widely known and respected. JUTZI, Rufus Beloved husband of Ruth, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family, on Thursday, November 3, 2011. Rufus is survived by his wife, Ruth Viola Good, children Collin Bruce (Marnie Service), Terrance John (Judith Martin), Thomas Paul (Nancy Chorney), Marjorie Ruth (Douglas Richard) and David Rufus (Joanne Koebel). Rufus had fourteen grandchildren, Adam (Jasmine Heard), Jeremy (Bridget Hinnegan), Jessica (Stephen Kelley), Rebecca (James McCrae), Jonathan (Danielle Green), Alison (Philip Sullivan), David (Melissa Graham), Jeffrey (Kimberly Wideman), Seth (Alicia MacFadden), John, Katelyn, Leah, Jenna and Alexander and seven great-grandchildren, Jacob, Alexander, Eden, Samuel, Ava, Maxwell and Nathan with two more due this month. Rufus was born June 26, 1915, the first child of Simeon Jutzi and Leah Gascho. He is survived by his sister Lauretta and brother Nyle and his wife, Patricia (Brady). He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Wallace and his wife, Mary (Shantz), his brother Curtis, his parents-in-law, Jacob Good and Wilhelmina Krueger and his brothers and sisters-in-law, Ira and Ruth (Beatty) Good and Earl and Jean (Arnett) Good. Rufus' life was dominated by his sense of calling to active duty within the church and the community. He served as a Mennonite pastor in Floradale, Preston, Listowel, Tavistock, Pioneer Park-Kitchener and Bluesky, Alberta. He was national director of the Mennonite Foundation of Canada. He served in numerous leadership roles including serving on executive of Mennonite Conference of Ontario (now Mennonite Church Eastern Canada), instructor at Ontario Mennonite Institute and Bible School, Chairman of Mennonite Publication Board, Chairman of Ontario Mennonite Mission Board, Board member Mennonite Board of Overseas Missions, Overseer of Northern Church District, Board member Conrad Grebel College, Board member Fairview Mennonite Home, Board member and interim general manager Rockway Mennonite School and interim general manager Mennonite Savings and Credit Union. He was actively involved in assisting new immigrants to settle in Canada. During WW II, he served in firefighting and reforestation in British Columbia as a conscientious objector. He served on numerous community boards. He was a founding director of Langs Farm Village Association in Cambridge, chaired the Preston Ministerial, was instrumental in starting a counselling service as an off-shoot of the Preston Ministerial, chaired the Woolwich Ministerial and was a founding director of the Home and School Association for the former School Section # 5 in Woolwich Township. He and Ruth spent many hours in private ministries of compassion and assistance to people in need. It is for these that his children remember him most. For him the gospel was not only to be proclaimed but also to be lived in daily actions of love and service to people. Dad passed on a love of nature, classical music and the beauty surrounding us. As a farmer's son, he developed a love of the land and rural vistas. He golfed regularly until last year. He enjoyed woodworking and playing scrabble. He always had a book on the go. He will be remembered for his consistency, high energy level, commitment to his family and faith and his management and fiscal skills. Although he did not hesitate to make his views known, his approach was softened by his sense of gratefulness for all that life offered. His vulnerability in the last year provided many poignant moments for his family to connect in new and different ways with him. Until we could no longer hear him pray, his prayer was for strength to endure and a willingness to learn from the unfamiliar changes that were happening to him. The Jutzi Family wishes to thank Mark, Cindy and the entire team at St. Andrew's Terrace Long-Term Care Community for their kind attention to Dad during the last chapter of his life. Funeral arrangements have been made through the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home.
