    KILLED BY FALLING TREE

    Reinhold Giese, who resides near Breslau, was almost instantly killed on Tuesday afternoon by being struck on the head by a falling tree. The deceased along with his son Bruno and S.G. Gole, were engaged in felling trees in John Gole's bush during the afternoon, and while cutting a large tree, the heavy wind blew it down unexpectedly in the opposite direction it was intended. Mr. Giese ran in the same direction as the tree fell and was struck on the head with great force rendering him unconscious . Dr. Honsberger of Berlin, was summoned but the injured man died a short time after his arrival and an hour and a half after the accident. There were no external injuries, death being due to concussion of the brain. The deceased had recently sold his farm near Breslau and intended moving to the Northwest. He was about 60 years of age and leaves a family of grown up children.

    ARRESTED FOR INDECENT ASSAULT

    Detective Klippert Monday afternoon arrested Joseph Meyer, a farm hand in the employ of Mr John Koehler, Wilmot Tp. The charge on which Meyer was arrested was one of assault committed upon fourteen year old girl, by the name of Emma Giese. The prisoner had a hearing before the Police Magistrate Tuesday afternoon and was dismissed.

    MRS. EMMA SCHANER - A resident of St. Jacobs for 37 years, Mrs. Emma Schaner, 73, died Thursday, August 27, in K-W Hospital after a lengthy illness.

    Born in Breslau, Oct. 18, 1885, she was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Reinhold Giese.

    On Nov. 20, 1926, she was married to William Schaner, who died in January, 1941.

    She was a member of St. Jacobs, and was a charter member of the United Lutheran Church Woman.

    Survivors include two sons, Arthur of St. Jacobs, Harold of Elmira; six daughters, Mrs. Warren (Isabel) Smith, Mrs. Oliver (Hazel) Lackner and Mrs. Lorne (Helen) Renesky of St. Jacobs, Mrs. Walter (Alma) Weigel of Elmira, Mrs. Hilbert (violet) Schedewitz of Waterloo, Mrs. George (Edith) Issler of Kitchener; two sisters, Mrs. William Zinn of St. Thomas, Mrs. Mary Schaefer of Preston, and 15 grandchildren. Two son, three sisters and one brother predeceased her.

    The body rested at the Dreisinger Funeral Home, Elmira, until Saturday at 11 am when removal was made to the church for the funeral at 3:30 o'clock. The Rev. Adolph Kappes officiated. Burial was in Heidelberg Lutheran Cemetery.

    VICTIM'S FATHER DIED VIOLENTLY

    Inquest Into Bruno Giese Death Arranged For Week From Tonight

    LINWOOD, June 26. The inquest into the death of Bruno Giese, victim of an unusual accident on the C.P.R. at Wallenstein station, will be held a week from tonight at seven o'clock at the Wallenstein station, Coroner. Dr. Stewart announced.

    The late Mr. Glese was born Dec. 10, 1886 at Breslau, He moved to Hawkesville shortly after his marriage to Clara Duench on January 27, 1915, Subsequently they moved to near Linwood where he farmed for ten years. Two years ago the family came to Linwood.

    A tragle coincidence in connection with the death is that his own father, the late Reinhold Glese, also met a violent death, being killed in 1909 while cutting down a tree in a bush near Breslau.

    He is survived by six sisters in addition to his family of nine children. They are, Lena, Mrs. Wm. Reynard of Owen Sound, Mary. Mrs. Carl Schaefer of Kitchener, Emma, Mrs. Wm. Schaner of St. Jacobs, Edith, Mrs. Wm. Zinn of Sparta, Laura, Mrs. Alvin Kesselring, Kitchener and Elizabeth, Mrs. Jacob Wagner of Kitchener.

    The funeral will be held on Thursday afternoon at two o'clock at the residence with a German service followed by one in English at St. Peter's Lutheran church at 2.20 o'clock. Burial will take place in the adjoining cemetery.

    SCHANER, Harold Peacefully passed away on Thursday, February 23, 2012 at KW Health Centre of Grand River Hospital. Harold was in his 85th year, of Elmira. Beloved husband of Audrey (Kraft) Schaner for 60 years. Dear father of Craig and Joan of Waterloo, Debra of Orangeville, Karen and Steven MacDonald of London. Lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Niki (Jonny), Lisa, Matt (Norma), Kelsi (Jeremy); Matthew, Brett and Lauren. Great-grandfather of Danika, Orlando, Anabella and Abigail. Brother-in-law of Helen Schaner of Kitchener. Harold was the last surviving member of his family having been predeceased by his parents, William and Emma (Giese) Schaner, three brothers, Walter, Arthur and Herman (in infancy), and six sisters, Isabel Smith, Edith Issler, Hazel Lackner, Helen Kenesky, Alma Weigel and Violet Schedewitz. Harold and his brother Art took over the family business, Schaner Coal and Feed of St. Jacobs, and later, in addition, owned and operated Schaner Fuels in Elmira. At Harold's request cremation has taken place. There will be no funeral home visitation. A memorial service to celebrate Harold's life and faith will be held at St. James Lutheran Church, Elmira on Sunday, February 26, 2012 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Hans Borch officiating. In his memory, donations to St. James Lutheran Church or Camp Oochigeas (camp for children with cancer) would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.     Mrs. Robinson was a charter member of Mount Zion Lutheran Church in Waterloo.

    Loving mother of Raymond (Greta) of Guelph, Leonard (Ferne) of Listowel, Gladys Delion (Rodger) of Hanover, Robert (Rose) of Kamloops, B.C., and Brenda Moorehouse of Kitchener.

    Remembered by 16 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.

    Dear sister of Alma Pinkey, Rose Schnarr, Lorraine Williams, Earl Giese, Nelda Sutherland and Harold Giese.

    Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

    Passed away, peacefully, at St. Mary's General Hospital, on Sunday, October 15, 2006, at the age of 83.

    Daughter of the late Clara (Duench) and Bruno Giese.

    Beloved wife of Lorne Schnarr for 63 years.

    Loving mother of Geraldine (Franklin) Lewis and the late Joan Wilkinson and Joan's surviving husband, Albert Wilkinson.

    Remembered by seven grandchildren and their spouses, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

    Sister of Harold Giese, Earl Giese (Ruth), Nelda Sutherland (Donald), Lorraine Williams and Alma Pinke. Also survived by brothers and sisters-in-law, Leonard Schnarr (Loretta), Morris Schnarr (Joan), Ralph Schnarr (Mary) and Edna Schnarr.

    Survived by many nieces and nephews.

    Predeceased by brothers, Carl Giese, Bill Giese (Jean); sisters, Nellie Robinson (Russell), Irene Jurchuk (John); sister-in-law, Gloria Giese; brothers-in-law, Al Williams, Art Pinke, Howard Schnarr, Albert Schnarr and Arnold Schnarr (Dorothy).

    Friends and relatives were invited to the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo, for visitation on Tuesday, October 17 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with parish prayers at 8 p.m.

    The funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 18, 2006 (today) at 11:30 a.m. at St. Agnes RC Church, 75 Bluevale St. N., Waterloo.

    Interment at St. Agatha RC Cemetery, St. Agatha.

    A reception will follow the interment in the Fireside Reception Room of the funeral home.
