Mrs. Joel Erb

An aged and highly esteemed resident of this district passed away on Monday in the person of Mrs. Joel Erb at the age of 87 years and 11 months at the home of her son-in-law, Mrs. Albert Kennel, at Victoriaburg. She had been ill for two weeks due to old age. The deceased was a lifelong resident of the township and a member of the Amish-Mennonite church. Her husband predeceased her, but she leaves four sons and five daughters, namely; Joel and Christian of Tavistock, Menno, near Crosshill, Noah at Pine Hill, Mrs. J. Gascho, Zurich, Mrs. Witterich, Lowville, N.Y., Mrs. J. Gingerich, St. Agatha, Mrs. John Stiere, East Zorra, and Mrs. Albert Kennel, Victoriaburg. The funeral was held yesterday forenoon to the Baden A.-M. Church and cemetery and was largely attended.

Notes:

Christian Zehr was born at Beadon, Ontario, Canada, December 24, 1852 and died at his home in Bellwood, Nebraska July 25, 1924, aged 72 years and seven months.

He was married to Miss Mattie Miller in Canada, in 1871. To this union three children were born, one girl who preceded him in death, and two boys, Jake of Amherst and Allan of Kearney. Mrs. Zehr died in 1878.

He was afterwards married to Anna Kennell, who survives him.

To this union were born six [sic, seven listed]children, John, of Palmer, Mattie (Mrs. Kiser) of Bellwood, Lydia (Mrs. Stevens) of University Place, Bessie (Mrs. McIntyre) of Chapman, Edith (Mrs. Osward) of Shickley, Gladys, (Mrs. Baker) of Palmer, and Earvin at home.

The family moved to Kearney, Nebraska in 1882, making their home there until they moved to Palmer in the spring of 1917.

Having decided to quit farming, they moved to Bellwood in the fall of 1923, and were living there at the time of his death.

Mr. Zehr united with the Mennonite Church in his boyhood, and throughout his lifetime he remained a consistent member of that organization.

The funeral was held at Kearney Sunday, July 27, 1924.

Catherina Zehr, was born in Wilmot, Ont., Jan. 6, 1864; died in Wellesley, Ont., May 7, 1928; aged 64 y. 4 m. 1 d. She was united in marriage to Joseph L. Roth June 27, 1889. This union was blessed with 11 children (Lydia, Christian, Mary, wife of Abraham Steinman, Joseph, Kate, wife of Joseph B. Leis, Benjamin, Saloma, wife of Emanuel W. Roth, Sarah, Madeline, Samuel, and Edna). Sister Roth was blessed to see all her children accept their Savior and unite with the church. She is survived by her husband, 7 daughters, 4 sons, 15 grandchildren, 4 sisters, 2 brothers, and many other relatives and friends. In her early youth she accepted Christ as her Savior and united with the Amish Mennonite Church. She was a patient sufferer from cancer in her face. Two days before her death, double pneumonia set in. Many a time she called out, "O Lord, take me home this night." Funeral services were held May 10, 1928, at the home by Bro. Chr. S. Zehr, and at the Wellesley A. M. Church by the Brethren Peter Litwiller, Daniel H. Steinman, and Daniel Lebold.

Kropf - Magdalena Lichti was born near Wellesley, Ont., Oct. 15, 1850; died at the home of her son David near Milverton, Ont., May 23, 1925; aged 74 y. 7 m. 8 d. She was united in marriage to David Kropf Dec. 28, 1869, who preceded her in death about 30 years ago. This union was blessed with 5 sons and 6 daughters. Two daughters preceded her in death. She leaves 5 sons, 4 daughters, 30 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 5 brothers, and 1 sister. She accepted the Lord Jesus as her Savior in her youth, united with the Amish Mennonite Church, and was faithful to the end. She was a strong, healthy woman till about a year ago when it was discovered that she had cancer under her arm. She took electric treatment which proved a success. She suffered very much of the burn of the last treatment, but was healing nicely when light paralytic strokes set in, one after another, which ended her life in a short time. Funeral services May 26, conducted at the house by Daniel Lebold, and at the Poole Mennonite Church by Christian Zehr and Christian Schultz. Interment in the adjoining cemetery.

LICHTI, Peter F. 1958

Peter F. Lichti, R.R. 2 Wellesley, died Saturday, May 3, at the home of his son, Peter Z. Lichti. He was 96 years of age, and had not been in good health for some time. Born Nov. 7, 1861, in Wilmot township, he was a son of the late Joseph and Magdalena Fahrney Lichti. He was a retired farmer, and a member of the Maple View Amish Mennonite Church. His wife, the former Magdalena Zehr, died in 1945. He is survived by four sons, Christian Z., Millbank; Amos, Waterloo; Peter Z., Wellesley; Manasseh, in the United States; four daughters, Mrs. Allen (Fannie) Bender, Wellesley; Mrs. Christian (Lena) Gerber, Crosshill; Mrs. Allen (Martha) Leis, Milverton; Mrs. Aaron (Emma) Gerber, Crosshill. One son died in infancy. Fifty grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren also survive. The body rested at the home of his son, Peter Lichti, Wellesley, where a service was held Tuesday at 1:30 p.m., followed by a memorial service at Maple View Amish Mennonite Church at 2 p.m. with Bishop Christian Streicher officiating. Interment was made in the adjoining cemetery.

John F. Lichty

One of best known farmers in Wellesley Tp., John F. Lichty, died at the family home on Tuesday, June 7, after a long illness. He was aged 68 years. In religion Mr. Lichti was a member of the Amish Mennonite Church. He was born in Wilmot township on March 28, 1864 and in 1888 he was married to Miss Barbara Roth who survives him with the following family: Joseph, John, Jacob and Aaron and the Misses Phoebe, Barbara and Christina, all at home. Also brothers, Rev. Jacob F. Lichty, Wellesley, Peter F. Lichty, Wellesley. Joseph Lichty Wilmot and Christian F. Lichty, Wellesley, and his sister, Mrs. Christian Leis, Sr., of Wellesley. The funeral was held with a public service on Friday morning at the Amish Mennonite church on the third line of Wellesley. Interment was made in the adjoining cemetery.

Roth-Rudolph Roth was born in Waterloo Co., Ont. Dec. 10, 1868; died at his home in New Hamburg, Ont., March 1, 1943; aged 74 y. 19d. Death came very suddenly, due to a heart attack. March 15, 1892, he was married to Lavina Hostetler who predeceased him 16 years ago. Nov. 12, 1931, he was married to Rebecca Shantz, who survives him. He also leaves 4 sons and 2 daughters (Arthur of New Hamburg, Harry and Mrs. Elmon Shantz of Kitchner; Moses, bishop in the Geiger congregation near Baden, Wilfrid of Radville, Sask., and Mrs. Ervin Shantz of Haysville), 11 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and one brother (John of Elkton, Mich.). In his young manhood he accepted Christ as his Savior and united with the Mennonite Church in which faith he continued to the end. For many years he served as a teacher in the Sunday school and took a keen interest in the study of God's Word. He endeavored to the best of his knowledge to maintain his home on Biblical standards. His hope was in Christ, the author of our salvation. The funeral was held on March 3, with services at the Biehn Church and interment in the near-by cemetery. The Brethren M Hallman and C.C. Cressman had charge of the services

WELLESLEY - Daniel L. Ropp, 82, of the third line of Wellesley Township died at his home today after two weeks illness. Born in Mornington Township, Aug. 8, 1870, he was a son of the late Joseph Ropp and Magdalena Lichti. Mr. Ropp farmed in Wellesley Township until he retired in 1927. He was a member of Cedar Grove Amish Mennonite Church, third line of Wellesley. Surviving are his widow, the former Bena Roth; two sons, John of Crosshill and Amos, RR 2, Wellesley and Mrs. David (Barbara) Gerber, Nithburg; one brother, John of New Hamburg, 23 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. One son predeceased him. The body is at the home where the funeral will be held Sunday at 1: 30 p.m. followed by a memorial service at Cedar Grove Church at 2: 15 p.m. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery with Rev. Samuel Lichti officiating.

He is survived by his wife, the former Anna Boshart; four sons, Michael and Ezra of Millbank, Aaron and Eli of Lowville, N.Y.; one daughter Mrs. Ezra (Fannie) Jantzi of Wellesley; two brothers, Christian of Tavistock and Noah of Mannheim and one sister, Mrs. Albert Kennel of Victoriaburg, near Wilmot Centre. Thirty-one grandchildren and six great-grandchildren also survive. One son predeceased him. The body is at the residence where a private service will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. Removal will be made in Cedar Grove Amish Mennonite Church for a memorial service at 1: 45 p.m. Burial will be in the adjoining cemeteryy. Bishop Samuel Roth will officiate.

Mrs. Jacob Gingerich

Following a heart attack, Mrs. Jacob Gingerich of Wilmot Tp., north of St. Agatha, died on Sunday at the age of 59 years. She was a native of Wilmot, being born on October 25, 1882. She was a member of the St. Agatha Amish Mennonite Church.

Surviving are her husband, five sons, Rudolph Jantzi, St. Jacobs, Joel Jantzi, Baden, Irvin Jantzi, at home, Allen of St. Agatha and Rudolph Gingerich, of Detroit, four brothers, Joel and Christian Erb, Tavistock, Menno L. Erb, Wellesley, Noah Erb, Petersburg, and four sisters, Mrs. Jos. Gascho, Zurich, Mrs. John Widerich, Lowville, N.Y., Mrs. John Stere, East Zorra, and Mrs. Albert Kennel, Petersburg.

The funeral was held Wednesday forenoon to the St. Agatha A.-M. Church and Cemetery. Rev. M. O. Jantzi, Baden, officiated.

She was a member of Steinman Mennonite Church, where funeral services were held on Oct. 18, in charge of Vernon Zehr and Fred Lichti; interment in the church cemetery.

Noah L. Erb, 67, of RR 2, Petersburg, died today in Mannheim at his home. Born Jan. 31, 1888, in Ellice Township, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joel Erb, he had lived in Wilmot Township since he was six years old. He was a member of St. Agatha Amish Mennonite Church.

Surviving are five sons, Clayton, Melvin, Vernon and Ray of RR 2, Petersburg, and Wilfred of RR 2, Kitchener; two daughters, Mrs. Roy (Luella) Nafziger of Baden and Miss Edna Erb at home; a brother, Christian, of Sebastopol and a sister, Mrs. Albert Kennel, RR 2, Petersburg. There are 11 grandchildren. His wife, the former Nancy Gascho, predeceased him in 1943.

The body is at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home until noon Sunday when removal will be made to St. Agatha Amish Mennonite Church where the funeral service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery.

John E. Lichti

The death of Mr. John E. Lichti took place early on Sunday morning at his home in Waterloo at the age of 68 years following an illness of some duration. The deceased was a son of Mrs. Leah Lichti and a brother of Mrs. Ben S. Roth, of New Hamburg. The deceased was born on April 12th, 1868, at St. Agatha, but resided in Waterloo for many years where he was an employee of the Globe Furniture Company. He was a faithful member of the Mennonite Church. Surviving are his wife, formerly Annie Kropf, his mother Mrs. Leah Lichti, of New Hamburg, six sons, Christian Lichti, of New Hamburg. David of Waterloo, Louis of Kitchener, Emerson at home, William and Delton, of Kitchener, four daughters, Mrs. Earl Harper at home, Mrs. W.R. Marshall, Bridgeport, Mrs. James G. Stevens, Waterloo, and Mrs. C. Yack, Bridgeport. Two brothers, Christian of Baden, and Joel Lichti, of Tavistock, and two sisters, Mrs. Benjamin Roth, and Miss Mary Lichti, both of New Hamburg, also survive, with 23 grandchildren. One son and one daughter predeceased him. The funeral was held on Wednesday at 2 o'clock from his late residence, thence to Stirling Ave. Mennonite Church,Kitchener, for service. Internment took place at the David Eby cemetery, Waterloo. Rev. U.K. Weber, pastor of Stirling Ave. Mennonite Church officiated.

Roth and together they shared the joys and sorrows of life for over 49 years. To this union were born 8 children, 3 having preceded her in death. She leaves her loving husband, 4 sons, and 1 daughter (John of Petersburg; Nickolaus of New Hamburg; Mabel, wife of Melvin Bender, near New Hamburg; Lorne of Tavistock; and Alvin, at home), 19 grandchildren, 2 brothers (Christian of Baden, Joel of Tavistock). Two brothers and 1 sister, with her parents, also preceded her to the great beyond. In her youth she accepted Christ as her personal Saviour and united with the A.M. congregation of Wilmot, remaining a faithful member until death. Her health had been failing somewhat for nearly two years, but she was able to do her work, never com-plaining. They had been to church together on Sunday morning, went home and had a meal as usual, and while taking some things down in the cellar she fell down unconscious. Inside of twenty minutes her spirit had taken its flight. Our loss is her gain. Funeral services were held Aug. 19 at the home by Bros. Elmer Swartzentruber and Ben Gingerich, and at the church by Bros. M. O. Jantzi and Peter Nafziger.

Miss Mary Lichti

After an illness of many months, Miss Mary Lichti passed away on Sunday at the home of her sister here at the age of 62 years.The deceased was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Christian K. Lichti and was born at St. Agatha on July 27th, 1878. The family moved here many years ago, residing on the outskirts of New Hamburg. For the past thirty years, the deceased made her home with her sister, Mrs. Ben S. Roth, New Hamburg. The deceased was a devout adherent of the Amish Mennonite faith and highly esteemed in the community.Besides her sister, Mrs. Roth, she leaves two brothers, Joel Lichti of Tavistock and Christian Lichti of Baden.The funeral was held on Wednesday afternoon from the home of Mr. and Mrs. Roth to the Steinman A.-M. Church near Baden for the funeral service, followed by internment in the Steinman Cemetery. Rev. Moses Roth of Wilmot Centre and Rev. Moses Jantzi of Baden conducted the services which were attended by a large circle of friends and relatives.

Mrs. Magdalena Boshart, a native of Wilmot township, died last Thursday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Edward Witmer, Hespeler, at the age of 91 years, following a short illness. She was the former Magdalena Gerber and was born April 9, 1868, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Peter Gerber. Her husband, Jonas Boshart, predeceased her in 1939. Survivors include five sons, John of Watertown, N.Y., Menno of Kitchener, Simon of Lowville, N.Y., Aaron of Wellesley, Gideon of Baden; six daughters, Mrs. Witmer, Mrs. Moses (Netta) Gingerich of Glenfield, N.Y., Miss Mary, Mrs. Ezra (Lily) Brenneman and Mrs. Eldon (Lauretta) Witmer of Kitchener, Mrs. Clarence (Luella) Erb of Sebringville; five great, great-grandchildren, 78 great grandchildren and 39 grandchildren. The funeral was held Saturday afternoon with service at the First Mennonite Church, Kitchener, of which the departed was a member. Rev. HESPELER - Mrs. Magdalena Boshart, 91, of Hespeler, a great-great-grandmother of five, grandmother of 88, grandmother of 48, and mother of six sons and six daughters, died yesterday. She died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Edward (Elmina) Witmer of 28 Bella St., Hespeler. Born April 9, 1868, in Wilmot Township, she was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Peter Gerber. She was a member of First Mennonite Church. Her husband, Jonas Boshart, died in 1939. Survivors include five sons, John of Watertown, N.Y., Menno of Kitchener, Simon of Lowville, N.Y., Aaron of Wellesley, Gideon of Baden; six daughters, Mrs. Witmer, Mrs. Moses (Netta) Gingerich of Glenfield N.Y., Miss Mary, Mrs. Ezra (Lily) Brenneman and Mrs. Eldon (Lauretta) Witmer of Kitchener, Mrs. Clarence (Luella) Erb of Sebringville; five great-great-grandchildren, 79 great-grandchildren and 39 grandchildren. In her young years she gave her heart to Jesus, united with the Amish Mennonite church, and stood in her faith to the end. She will be greatly missed in her home, neighborhood, and Church in which her voice was always heard among the rest while singing. She was a loving companion, a kind mother, and her kindness was not only shown to her immediate family but her home was always open to strangers. On Wednesday, May 30, 1928, she took a paralytic stroke from which she never recovered. Funeral services were held June 27 at the home by Bro. Christian Gascho and at the church by Brethren Chris. WILMOT CENTRE Mrs. Christian B.. Jantzi, 85, of RR 2. Petersburg, died at her, home last night. She had been ill for four months.

The former Barbara Wagler, she was born in Wilmot township, July 6, 1869, a daughter of the late Christian Wagler and Magdalene Zehr. Her husband predeceased her in 1939. She was a member of Steinman Amish Mennonite Church, near Baden. Surviving are two sons, Allan, at home; Aaron W., Wellesley; a daughter, Mrs. C. E. (Mary) Schwartzentruber, RR 2. Petersburg; a sister, Mrs. Jonathan (Mary) Jantzi, Kitchener; 11 grandchildren and 17 great- grandchildren.

The body is at the Futher- Omand Funeral Home, New Hamburg, until 3 p.m. today when removal will be made to the residence where a short serv- ice will be conducted Monday at 1:30 p.m. It will be followed by a memorial service at Steinman Church at 2:15 p.m. Interment will be in Wilmot Centre Cemetery. Bishop Orland Gingerich will officiate.

BADEN, Aug. 14. - The death occurred at St. Agatha yesterday of Isaac Wagler, 75 The deceased was born in Wilmot Township, Jan. 18, 1872. His death followed a lingering illness. He was a son of the late Christian and Magdalene Wagler.

Surviving are his widow, Catherine Litwiller; two sons, Elmer of New Hamburg, Ervin of St. Agatha: 3 eight daughters Mrs. Noah (Victoria) Boshart, Baden, Mrs. John (Ida) Dietz, Waterloo, Mrs. John (Katie) Leis. New Hamburg. Mrs. Elmer (Mattie) Schwartzentruber, Baden, Mrs. Eli (Sarah) Zehr, St. Agatha. Mrs. Erie (Vera) Schulz, Kitchener, Mrs. Ervin (Verna) Zehr, Milver- ton, Mrs. Jonas (Laura) Wagler, St. Agatha; two sisters, Mrs. Jonathan Jantzi, Kitchener, and Mrs. C. B. Jantzi, Pine Hill. Thirty-nine grand- children and two great grandchildren survive. Two sisters, two brothers and two grandchildren predeceased him.

A service will be held at the home of his son-in-law, Eli Zehr. St. Agatha at 2:00p.m., Saturday. A public service will be held at the St. Agatha A.M. Church. Interment will be made in St. Agatha A.M Cemetery. Rev. Benjamin Gingerich will officiate.

BADEN. Jacob Z. Iutzi, 71, died on Sunday, Nov. 16, at the home of his daughter and son-in- law, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Schmidt after an illness of nearly one year.

Born in Petersburg, Feb. 14, 1881, he was the son of the late John M. Iutzi and Barbara Zehr. He attended the Steinman Amish Mennonite Church. On Novem- ber 5, 1901, he was married to Katherine Roth of St. Agatha who predeceased him in December of 1932. A son William also predeceased him in 1948.

Surviving are two sons, Wilfred of Baden and Roy of Lockport, N.Y., and three daughters, Mrs. Edna Herner, Baden, (Elda) Mrs. Stanley Schmidt, Baden and (Eva) Mrs. Eldon Gingerich, New Hamburg. There are 16 grand- children and seven great grand- children.

JACOB Z. GINGERICH Wellesley - Jacob Z. Gingerich, 87, died yesterday at the home of his son Allen, RR 1, St. Agatha. He was a member of the St. Agatha Amish Mennonite Church.

He was born May 31, 1869 in Wilmot Township, a son of the late Rudolph Gingerich and Mary Zehr. He was married twice. His first wife, Leah Bast, died in 1906. Two years later he married Magdalina Erb, who died in 1942.

Surviving are two sons, Allen, and Rudolph of Little Lakes, Mich.; three step-sons, Rudolph Yantzi of Waterloo, Joel Yantzi of RR 2, Baden and Irvin Yantzi of RR 1, St. Agatha; three brothers, Benjamin of New Hamburg, Abraham and John of RR 2, Baden; two sisters, Mrs. John Roth of Baden and Mrs. Christian Steinman of RR 2, Baden; thirteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

The body is at Allen Gingerich's home where a short service will be conducted Sunday, at 2 p.m. followed by a memorial service at the St. Agatha Church at 2: 30 p.m. Rev. Peter Nafziger will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mich., who survives him, with 1 daughter (Edna) ; also 4 brothers and 3 sisters (Jacob of St. Agatha; Abraham and John of Baden; Pre. Ben Gingerich of New Hamburg; Mrs. John K. Roth of Baden; Mrs. Moses L. Jantzi, Baden; and Mrs. Christian Z. Steinman of New Hamburg). His illness was a heart ailment of three years' duration. He was fully resigned to the will of God. Funeral services were held Dec. 4, 1941, from his late home, in charge of Bro. Menno Wagler, with further services at the Steinman's Church by Bros. Peter Nafziger and M. O. Jantzi in English, and Bro. D. S. Jantzi in German. Interment in Steinman Cemetery adjoining the church.

NEW HAMBURG - A farmer in the New Hamburg district all his life, Rev. Benjamin Gingerich, 74, of Jacob Street, New Hamburg, died at his home Tuesday. Born in Wilmot Township, he was a son of the late Rudolph Gingerich and Marie Zehr. Ordained in Wilmot Amish Mennonite Church in 1930, he was a member of Steinman AM Church. He moved to New Hamburg 11 years ago.

He and his wife, the former Katherine Steinman, celebrated their 50^th wedding anniversary Dec. 5. The body is resting at his home where a private service will be held Saturday afternoon. Church services will be conducted at the Steinman AM Church at 2 p.m. by Bishop Orland Gingerich. John Z. Wagler of Wellesley died September 16, at the Brunner Nursing Home after a lengthy illness. He was 92.

Born in East Zorra Township, he farmed in Wellesley Township until retiring to Wellesley in 1929. He lived at the nursing home for the past 7 ½ years and was a member of Maple View Mennonite Church.

He was predeceased by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Wagler; his wife, the former Catherine Streicher, who died in May, 1961, a son; five brothers; and a sister, and a grandchild.

Surviving are a son, Rudy of Wellesley; a daughter, Lena, a resident at the Brunner Nursing Home, and a grandchild.

The body rested at the Futher Brothers Funeral Home, Wellesley, until noon Friday when removal was made to the church for service at 2:30 p.m. Burial was in the church cemetery

Daniel Christner, of Pigeon, Mich., was born March 6, 1879, near Elkhart, Ind.; died April 3, 1943.

He was united in marriage to Katie Zehr. To this union 7 children were born (Orie and Emma of Pigeon; Walter and Viola, Mrs. Emery Seaman, of Detroit, Mich.; Clayton and Floyd in the army; and Bertha who died in infancy).

He left to mourn his departure his bereaved companion, 4 sons, 2 daughters, 6 grandchildren, and one brother Jacob of near Pigeon.

The funeral was held at the Pigeon River A.M. Church, April 6, 1943.

CHRISTIAN ROTH

The funeral service for Christian Roth of 47 Franklin Street, Kitchener, formerly of Wellesley, who died Thursday, was held Saturday afternoon at Maple View Mennonite Church, Wellesley. Futher Brothers Funeral Home was in charge and burial was in the church cemetery.

Mr. Roth was born in Wellesley Township and was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph L. Roth. He was a member of the Maple View Mennonite Church and lived in Wellesley until he moved to Kitchener three years ago. He was 77.

Surviving are two brothers, Benjamin of Wellesley and Samuel of Waterloo, and six sisters, Mrs. Abraham (Mary) Steinman ofRR2, New Hamburg, Mrs. Joseph (Katharine) Leis of Elrose, Sask., Mrs. Emmanuel (Salome) Roth of Baden, Mrs. William (Madeline) Kropf of Kitchener, and Sarah and Edna, both of Waterloo. He was preceded in death by one daughter, three brothers, and one sister. He was a member of St. Agatha Mennonite Church, where funeral services were held on May 23, in charge of Gerald Schwartzentruber and Allan Schwartzentruber; interment in adjoining cemetery.

BENJAMIN ROTH

Benjamin Roth, 75, of Wellesley, died Sunday at Kitchener-Waterloo Hospital.

Born in Wellesley, he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Roth.

He was a member of St. Agatha Mennonite Church.

He farmed near Wellesley, retiring in 1963.

Surviving are: His wife, the former Amanda Everett; sons, Nelson of Baden, Milford of New Hamburg, Elton of Millbank, Harold of Cambridge, Willard of Wellesley; daughters, Mrs. John (Beulah) Wagler of London, Mrs. Walter (Hilda) Burhardt of Kitchener, Mrs. Mahlon (Pearl) Rose of Milverton; sisters, Mrs. Abe (Mary) Steinman of New Hamburg, Mrs. Joseph (Kate) Leif of El Rose, Sask., Mrs. Emmanuel (Soloma) Roth of Baden, Mrs. William (Madeline) Kropf of Kitchener, Edna and Sarah, both of Waterloo; 34 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a daughter, three brothers and a sister.

The body is at the Futher Brothers funeral home until today (Wednesday) when removal will be made to St. Agatha Mennonite Church for the funeral service at 2:30 p.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Miss Roth's family will receive friends at the Edward R. Good Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Water-loo from 7-9 p.m. this evening (Saturday) and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Sunday. At noon on Monday transfer will be made to Stirling Avenue Mennonite Church for the funeral service at 2 p.m., with Rev. Mary Mae Schwartzentruber officiating. Interment to follow in Woodland cemetery, Kitchener.

Lichty, died April 5th, 1938. The funeral was held on Saturday from the residence with service following in Stirling Ave. Mennonite Church. Rev. A. R. Joseph L. Kropf

Wellesley - Funeral service for a former Wellesley man, Joseph L. Kropf of Brunner, who died Saturday at the Brunner Rest Home, was held Monday from the Maple View Mennonite Church, Wellesley. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Born in Mornington Township, May 10, 1874, he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. David Kropf. A member of Maple View Mennonite Church, he farmed in Mornington Township before retiring to Wellesley in 1940.

He was predeceased by three wives, Rebecca Mank in 1916, Mary Lichty in 1918, and Nancy Leis in 1962; three brothers and four sisters.

Surviving are two sons, Alvin of Waterloo, and William of Kitchener; one daughter, Mrs. Herman (Adela) Kipfer of Millbank; one brother, David of Poole; two sisters, Mrs. Christian (Fannie) Brunk of Brunner, and Mrs. George (Leah) Poole of RR 1, Milverton; nine grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

He moved to Kitchener from Poole 43 years ago and was employed by the Waterloo PUC for 18 years.

John L. Kropf, 75, of 119 Alexandra Ave., Waterloo, died Friday at K-W Hospital after a brief illness.

Born in Poole, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. David Kropf. Mr. Kropf retired from General Spring Products Ltd., in 1959.

He had lived in the Twin Cities for 32 years. He was a member of the First Mennonite Church, King Street East.

Surviving are his wife, the former Catherine Brenneman whom he married in 1914 in East Zorra; a son Melvin of Waterloo; three daughters, Mrs. Gordon (Luella) Burgetz of Stratford, Mrs. Roy (Alice) Martin of Waterloo, and Mrs. Edwin (Beatrice) Cressman of Kitchener; two brothers, Joseph of Brunner, and David of Milverton; two sisters, Mrs. Christian (Fannie) Brunk of Brunner, and Mrs. George (Leah) Poole of Poole; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Daughter of the late David Krops and the former Magdalena Lichti. Lovingly remembered by her daughter, Mabel (Mrs. Lorne Poole) of RR 1, Milverton; her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Eleanor Ropp of Stratford; her step-daughter, Emma (Mrs. Elroy Schultz) of Millbank; two step-sons, Norman Poole of Milverton and John Poole of RR 1, Milverton. Sadly missed by four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Joseph Ropp; her second husband, George Poole; one son, Ervin Ropp; two step-sons, one step-daughter, five brothers and five sisters.

Friends and relatives may call at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 9 Pacific Ave., Milverton after 7 p.m. tomorrow (Wednesday) until Friday, Jan. 31 at noon, when transfer will be made to Poole Mennonite Church for the service at 2: 30 p.m., with Rev. David Brubacher officiating. Internment to follow in the church cemetery.

She was a member of the Nafziger Amish Mennonite Church at Poole. She was predeceased by her husband in 1956. Survivors include one son, Nicholas of Brunner; a daughter, Mrs. Amos (Clara) Gerber, Milverton; a brother, Joseph, of Benton, Ind.; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother and two sisters. In 1903 he was married to Mary Albrecht, after which he left the farm and engaged in carpenter work. In 1931 he moved with his family to Kitchener. The following year he united with the First Mennonite Church. TAVISTOCK-John E. Lichti, 225 Hope St. E., died Friday at Stratford Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was 72.

Born May 5, 1896, in Wilmot Township, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Lichti and farmed in East Zorra Township for many years before coming to Tavistock in 1960. Mr. Lichti was a member of the 16^th Line East Zorra Mennonite Church.

Surviving are his wife, the former Barbara Bender whom he married Jan. 24, 1918 in East Zorra Township; six sons, Elmon, Stanley, Lincoln and Mervin, all of East Zorra, Elroy of New Hamburg, and Kenneth of Tavistock; one daughter, Mrs. Mervin (Leona) Bender, New Hamburg; five sisters, Mrs. Joseph (Mary) Wagler of Wellesley, Mrs. Nick (Leah) Roth, New Hamburg, Mrs. Joseph (Lydia) Roth of Tavistock, Mrs. Serenus (Lena) Kipfer of Baden and Mrs. Ezra (Katie) Kropf, East Zorra; 23 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was predeceased by one daughter and two brothers.

John E. Lichti, 225 Hope St. E.. died last Friday at Stratford Hospital at the age of 72.

Born in Wilmot Township, May 5. 1896, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Lichti and had farmed in East Zorra Township for many years before coming to Tavistock in 1960. He was a member of the 16th Line East Zorra Mennonite Church. Surviving are .his wife, the former Barbara Bender whom he married January 24, 1918 in East Zorra Township; six sons, Elmon, Stanley. Lincoln and Mervin. all of East Zorra; Elroy of New Hamburg and Kenneth of Tavistock; one daughter, Mrs. Mervin (Leona) Bender, New Hamburg; five sisters, Mrs. Joseph (Mary) Wagler of Wellesley, Mrs. Nick (Leah) Roth, New Hamburg, Mrs. Joseph (Lydia) Roth of Tavistock. Mrs. Serenus (Lena) Kipfer of Baden and Mrs. Ezra (Katie) Kropf, East Zorra; 23 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was predeceased by one daughter and two brothers.

Rev. Newton Gingerich conducted services at the East Zorra Mennonite Church 16th line on Monday. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery.

Robert Krug Funeral Home, Tavistock, was in charge of arrangements.

KIPFER, LENA (MRS. CYRANIUS)

On Tuesday, Jan. 1, 1987, at her residence, 218 Boullee St., New Hamburg.

She was born in Wilmot township 86 years ago, a daughter of the late Joseph Lichti and the former Barbara Erb.

She was a member of Steinman Mennonite Church.

Beloved wife of Cyranius Kipfer, whom she married Feb. 15, 1918.

Lovingly remembered by seven sons, Harold and his wife Elizabeth of Kitchener, Wilbur and his wife Gabrielle of Mattawa, Ont., Walter of RR 2, Baden, Edward and his wife Jewel, Lester and his wife Marie, all of Kitchener, James and his wife Janet of Lockport, N.Y., Ray and his wife Mary of Waterloo; two daughters, Esther and her husband Ernie Haunn of New Hamburg, Marie and her husband Stanley Gingerich of RR 1, New Hamburg.

Sadly missed by 23 grandchildren. 25 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Leah Roth of New Hamburg and Mrs. Katie Kropf of Tavistock.

She was predeceased by two sons, Charles and Robert; one daughter-in-law, Beatrice; three brothers, Joseph, John and Menno; seven sisters, Mrs. Barbara Kropf, Mrs. Mary Wagler, Mrs. Rebecca Kipfer, Mrs. Lydia Roth and three in infancy.

Friends and relatives may call at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 291 Huron St., New Hamburg, after 7 p.m. today , until Sunday, Jan. 4, 1987 at noon, when transfer will be made to Steinman Mennonite Church, RR 2, Baden, for the service at 3 p.m., with Rev. Fred Lichti and Rev. Vernon Zehr officiating.

Spring interment in Riverside cemetery, New Hamburg.
