    SCHAEFER, Richard A. -- At K-W Hospital, Saturday, Feb. 19, 1983, suddenly, as a result of a heart attack, Richard Alvin Schaefer, of 121 Bloomingdale Rd., Kitchener, aged 69 years. A member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Bridgeport Rod and Gun Club, President of Richard Schaefer Trucking Limited. Husband of the former Gracia Wagner; father of Timothy, Thomas and Mrs. Peter (Wendy) Hummel, all of Kitchener, Mrs. Christopher (Judith) Bisch of Winterbourne; brother of Armin (Billy) of Sturgeon Falls, Robert, Clifford and Mrs. Roy (Erma) Rhodes, all of Kitchener and Gerald of Waterloo. Three grandchildren, Janet, Ellen and Kim also survive. Predeceased by his parents; two brothers, Howard and Norman and one son, Daniel in 1971. Friends may call at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home, 621 King St. W., Kitchener, where the funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 3 p.m., with Rev Ralph Huras officiating. Interment will be in Bridgeport Memorial cemetery.

    No Inquest In Drowning of Bridgeport Lad

    Coroner Dr. Louis V. Lang said today there would be no inquest into the death, Saturday, of Howard Schaefer, 15-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Schaefer of Bridgeport.

    Victim of a heart attack, Howard sank in 30 feet of water 75 feet, above the dam at Bridgeport, Dr. Lang told The Chronicle.

    High County Constable Harry Noble said dragging operations were started early Saturday evening, but that the body was not recovered until ten o'clock Sunday morning.

    The father of the victim said the dead boy was not missed until he failed to return early Saturday evening to do his farm chores. He said Howard's brothers knew he had gone swimming and went to the dam to look for him. They found only his clothes and bicycle, Schaefer said. "We knew Howard had a weak heart, but he had never been troubled much with it," he sobbed.

    Clarence Underwood, who lives near the dam, said the victim and his friends were playing "tick", or "water tag" when the Schaefer boy sank below the surface unnoticed.

    My dad and his brothers swam in the dam by the mill. Unfortunately his brother Howard Schaefer drowned at the age of 16. It was thought that his heart gave out because the water was so cold.
