    FATALLY CRUSHED UNDER BIG ROLLER

Milton Borman Succumbs to Injuries Suffered on Farm

By Record Correspondent LINWOOD, Sept. 10 - Milton H. Borman, 30, formerly of Einwood and Kitchener, was fatally injured on a farm near Clifford yesterday when the team he was driving ran away with a land roller.

Borman was found by his wife. about 11.50 a.m. when she went to call him for dinner. Badly mangled, he had been caught in the roller and dragged about the field when the horses ran away. The horses had stopped in the orchard when discovery of the accident was made by Mrs. Borman.

Borman and his wife, formerly Edith Schlueter of Linwood, were working on the farm of Wilfred Domm, who resides halfway between Clifford and Mildmay. Borman as hired man and his wife as housekeeper.

Early yesterday Borman had driven Domm to the station where he boarded a train for Toronto to attend the Canadian National Exhibition on Farmers' Day.

Returning to the farm, Borman planned the land rolling. He hitched up Domm's team, however, instead of the team which he had been accustomed to use. The owner's team, it is said, are noted as runaways.

While no one saw the accident. It is believed that Borman was rolling along the fence line and that the roller went over a rail which extended from the fence. Believed frightened by the noise, the horses ran away and Borman was thrown from the roller and became caught in the tongue.

He was dragged about the field and when found, part of his body was under the roller. Borman was the youngest son of the late Daniel Borman who died in December last year near Linwood. Surviving are his wife, to whom he was married three years ago, two brothers, Daniel of Kitchener and Clarence of Waterloo, two sisters, Mrs. C. Schutz of St. Jacobs, and Mrs. C. Hannenberg of Guelph, and his stepmother, Mrs. Daniel Borman of Linwood.

The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock from the Letter and Dreisinger Funeral Home, Waterloo, to Waterloo Mount Hope cemetery for interment.

    Notes:

Earl Harry Borman was born on September 25th. 1920 in Waterloo, Ontario and peacefully passed away on November 23rd, 2016 in the Vernon Jubilee Hospital at the age of 96 years.

Earl will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Nina (Randy) Kaufman and their son, Tyler, two sons, Mark (Wanda) Borman and their son, Kyle; and Gary Borman; two additional grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, numerous. nieces, nephews and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dora in 2001 and all of his siblings.

Earl was a real "trooper" and even after having seen the ravages and cruelty of war first hand, he remained strong and steadfast in his love of people, Canada and the freedoms that we all enjoy. It's an honour that few Canadians earn, but Earl was presented with a medal in 2014 commemorating 70 years of continuous membership in the Royal Canadian Legion. He joined the Royal Canadian Legion in 1944 at the urging of the man, a Boer War veteran, who would later become his father-in-law. Even now after almost 73 years, Earl already had already applied for his 2017 membership and was proud right to the very end of his life for what the Legion stands for and thankful for having been able to serve his Country during WW. II from 1940-1945, with the Royal Canadian Regiment, Royal Canadian Army. In his memorabilia of the time he spent overseas, Earl still had the piece of shrapnel that hit him in the back and thus resulted in his honourable discharge early in 1945. He returned home to Ontario and later, in September of 1945, married his childhood sweetheart. After the war Earl joined Canada Post and became a letter carrier, a job he greatly enjoyed for 35 years both in Waterloo, Ontario and later in Vernon. Earl was a true gentleman in every sense of the word and he will be greatly missed and dearly loved by all whose lives he touched.

Cremation preceded a Celebration Of Earl's Life which will take place at the Eagles Hall, 5101-25th Avenue, on Saturday, December 17th, 2016 at 2:00 P.M.

As an expression of sympathy, those who wish to do so may send donations in memory of Earl to their favourite local Food Bank.
