    Hawkesville

    Obituary: - A sad and untimely death occurred near here on Tuesday when Mr. Messinger, owner of the Hawkesville grist mill, was coming home from St. Clements. His horse became frightened and ran away, the wheel of his buggy collided with another buggy, that was getting out of the way of the runaway. Mr. Messinger was thrown out on his head with such force that he lived only a few minutes. He was born on a farm near Heidelberg on March 5th, 1848, and started to learn his trade in a yarn mill at Wellesley, working at his trade in different places in Canada. He started up business in a woollen factory at Hanover and worked there for nearly 40 years. In the year 1910 he came to Hawkesville and started up business in the grist mill of which he has been a faithful laborer for six years. He was married to Christine Wagner, of Wellesley. His wife predeceased him about a year ago. Mr. Messinger is survived by three daughters and five sons: namely, Mrs. R. Seigner, of Mildmay; Mrs. H. Sanders, of Niagara Falls; Mrs. R. Halley, of Bovey, Min.; Herman, of Detroit; Will, of Willeston, North Dakota; John of Edmonton, Alta; Henry of Portland Oregon, and Jacob, at home. One son predeceased him five years at Hanover. Deceased resided here for nearly six years and will be much missed by his neighbors and friends whose respect he enjoyed. He reached the age of 67 years, 5 months and 17 days. The funeral took place on Sunday at 2 o'clock at Mildmay and the remains were laid to rest in the Mildmay cemetery. Much sympathy is extended by the whole community.
