    Passing of Mrs. John Fraser

    Death has added another to the long list of aged persons who have passed from our midst in this section, this time in the person of Mrs. John Fraser, who passed away early Tuesday afternoon, in her 71st year. Mary Brown, which was her maiden name, was the second daughter of the late James Brown of North Dumfries. Deceased was born in that township and was therefore one of the earliest pioneers of the section. In 1858, she was married to John Fraser, who predeceased her by some years. She continued residing in Dumfries, until a few years ago, when she took up residence in Ayr. The fruits of the union were nine children, seven of whom are still living. They are: John B. in North Dumfries, ; Mrs. M. Furlong at Mount Forest ; Mrs. Geo. Fairbairn and Mrs. Wm. Taylor, Gat; Mrs. J. W. Bell and Mrs, Leo. Cadwell, Ayr, and Mr. Herbert Thompson, Newdale, Man. Mrs. Fraser was a motherly woman, giving all due attention to her family and her household duties and her demise will be regretted by a wide circle of friends, who will recall pioneer days. The funeral takes place today at 2.30 p.m., when the services will be conducted, by Rev. D. I. Ellison.

    Well-Known Glenmorris Resident Passes in His 86th Year

    John Brown Fraser of Glenmorris, who was well known to many friends in this vicinity, passed away on Monday morning in his 86th year. His demise followed a stroke which he sustained a few days previously. Mr. Fraser was the eldest and last surviving member of a family of nine, being a son of John Fraser and Mary Brown. He was born on the Brown homestead 9th concession of North Dumfries, now owned by William and Thomas Currie. The family later removed to what is known as the Fraser homestead on the Ayr-Wrigley's highway, now owned by Francis Dedman. As a boy Mr. Fraser attended Wrigley's Corners school, and upon reaching manhood he operated a threshing outfit for a considerable period of time. He farmed in North Dumfries for many years and was known far and wide by a large circle of friends, among whom he was quite popular. He also spent four years in Manitoba. Some 30 years ago, he removed to Glenmorris, and for 17 years acted as night-watchman at the Riverside Silk Mills, Galt. He married Janet Renwick and on March 28 of this year they would have celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary. His widow survives; also one son, James R., of Vancouver, B. C., and two daughters, Mrs. James Sharp (Mary), R.R. 2, St. George, and Mrs. Albert Williamson (Nettie), R.R. 1, Galt: 14 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. One grandson, Gdsm. Allan Fraser Williamson, is serving in Holland with an armoured corps. A daughter, Mrs. James Dryden (Isabella), predeceased him 31 years ago. - The Funeral - The funeral took place to the Ayr Cemetery this (Wednesday) afternoon, with Rev. T. T. Falehney, pastor of First United Church, Galt, in charge of the services. The pallbearers were six grandsons: Lloyd Williamson, Windsor; John Williamson, Sheffield; John Henderson, St. George; Andrew, Donald and Thomas Sharp, Glenmorris.

    MRS. ELIZA FAIRBAIRN

    The death occurred in Guelph General Hospital on Friday afternoon of Mrs. Eliza, Fairrbairn in her 73rd year. Mrs. Fairbairn had been ill for only ten days. Born on the 8th concession, North Dumfries township, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Fraser. For many years she had been living with her son in St. Catharines, but she was well known in Ayr, Sheffield and Galt. For the past two years she had been living with a granddaughter in Guelph,

    Mrs. Fairbairn's husband passed away in 1898 and a sister, Mrs. John W. Bell of Ayr, in September of 1935. She is survived by one son, James of St. Catharines; one brother, John B. Fraser, Glenmorris; one sister, Mrs. George Cadwell, Drumbo, and four grandchildren. The funeral took place from Galt on Monday afternoon to the Ayr Cemetery.

    Native of North Dumfries Township Passes in Woodstock in 73rd Year

    The death occurred at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Harry South, 195 Norwich avenue, Woodstock, on Tuesday morning of Mrs. George A. Cadwell, in her 73rd year. Mrs. Cadwell, who had been ill for several months, had gone to Woodstock from Drumbo the first of April to reside with her daughter. She was born in North Dumfries township, a daughter of Mary Brown and John Fraser, early settlers, her maiden name being Lily Fraser. She had resided in the Ayr and Drumbo district during the whole of her life-time. Mrs. Cadwell was a valued member of Willis United Church, Drumbo. and was well known and much esteemed by many friends in Ayr. who will regret to learn of her passing. Besides her daughter, Mrs. Harry South, Woodstock, she is survived by one brother, John B. Fraser. Glenmorris, and a grandson. Her husband predeceased her on December 30, 1943. Memorial service will be held on Friday afternoon, June 2nd, at 2 o'clock at the Chapel of the Harold W. Gray Funeral Home, Galt. Interment in Ayr Cemetery.

    Mrs. Thomson's Funeral     - The remains of the late Mrs. Herbert Thomson of Newdale, Man., accompanied by her husband, arrived here on Wednesday evening and were interred in Ayr cemetery on Thursday afternoon. Notwithstanding very inclement weather, the attendance was fairly large, a number of friends and relatives from outside points paying their last tribute of love and respect to the memory of the deceased. The pallbearers were Messrs. Wm. Riddell, Geo. Mitchell, Jas. Bell, Geo. Cress, jr., Chas. Conochie and Wm. H. Kenspeer. The services were conducted jointly by Rev. D I. Ellison and Rev. John Thomson.

    Mrs. Myrle Stork Passes

    A well-known, lifelong resident of this community, Mrs. Myrle Stork passed away in South Waterloo Memorial Hospital, Galt, on Saturday in her 80th year. Mrs. Stork had been in ill health for some time but had been hospitalized only for a short period. She was born at Greenfield, a daughter of the late John and Maude Fraser. Following her marriage to Sydney Stork, she lived for several years in North Bay until her husband passed away many years ago. Since that time she lived in Ayr until becoming a resident of the Eventide Home in Galt several years ago. The late Mrs. Stork was an Anglican by faith. Surviving is one brother, Guy Fraser of Islington. She was predeceased by a daughter, Eileen, some years ago.

    The Funeral

    Funeral service was held on Monday at Christ Anglican Church conducted by Rev. John Pyke. Interment was made in Ayr Cemetery. The pallbearers were: Henry Bechtel of Guelph, Reid Leonard, John H. Dance, Arthur Underwood, Lloyd Henderson and G. S. Dalrymple, all of Ayr.

    James R. Fraser Passes - Word was received by his niece, Mrs. R. Bruce Carswell of Glenmorris, of the death in Vancouver, B.C., on Monday of James R. Fraser in his 83rd year. He was born on the farm now occupied by Jack George, on the Ayr-Wrigley's Road, a son of the late John B. Fraser and Janet M. Renwick. The farm was cleared by his mother's people and was known as the Renwick place. As a young man he left North Dumfries for Vancouver, where he was a carpenter and house mover. He was active in the Masonic Lodge in that city and for 40 years was treasurer of Cedar Cottage United Church. He is survived by his wife, the former Louise Gimby; daughters, Mrs. Everett (Jean) Crowley of Vancouver, Mrs. Arthur (Evelyn) Dickey of Williams Lake, B.C., and Mrs. Douglas (Dorothy) Baird of Ottawa; also two sisters, Mrs. James (Mame) Sharp of Glenmorris and Mrs. Albert (Nettie) Williamson of Sheffield. Eleven grandchildren also survive. A son, Jack, predeceased him in 1962. Funeral service will be held on Thursday with interment in Vancouver.

    A Sudden Death

    The numerous Ayr friends and acquaintances of Mrs. James Dryden (nee Isabella Fraser) were much shocked to hear of her death in Galt on Tuesday, Jan. 6th. Deceased was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John B. Fraser, who reside five miles east of this town and was married about a year ago to Mr. James Dryden. She was 28 years of age. The bereaved family have the sincere sympathy of the entire community in their great loss. Besides her husband and parents, she is survived by one brother, Jas. R. Fraser of Vancouver and two sisters, Mamie and Nettie, at home. The funeral will take place from the residence of her husband, 11 Chapman St., Galt, this (Thursday) afternoon, at 1 o'clock, to Ayr cemetery.

    A memorial service will be held June 20 for Mrs. Janet Williamson of Beverly Hills Lodge, Brantford, who passed away Sunday, June 14th at the age of 86. Born in Reidsville on November 8, 1894, she had lived most of her life in the Cambridge area. She was the former Janet Fraser, a daughter of the late John Fraser and Janet Renwick. Mrs. Williamson was a member of Sheffield United Church and the Women's Institute. The memorial service was held at the Sheffield United Church Saturday at 2 p.m.. A private family graveside service was held Monday afternoon at the Ayr Cemetery. She was predeceased by her husband, Albert Williamson in 1976. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. John T. (Margaret) Henderson of RR 1, St. George; three sons, Lloyd and Allan, both of RR 1, Cambridge, and John of Cambridge; 19 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren.

    Miss Eileen Stork Passes

    The death occurred on Saturday at her home in Ayr of Miss Eileen Stork, 49, daughter of Mrs. Merle Stork and the late Sydney Stork. The late Miss Stork was a life-long resident of this village, where she had resided with her mother on Northumberland street. Although sightless from birth, she was a clever music student and gained proficiency on the piano. She also mastered the conventional typewriter which she operated skilfully. The late Miss Stork was an adherent of the Anglican faith and, though unable to attend services, devoted each Sunday to religious radio programs. She is survived only by her mother. Her father passed away 23 years ago.

    The Funeral

    The private funeral service was held at the W. 0. Ball Funeral Parlor on Monday, conducted by Canon H. B. Ashby. Interment was made in the Ayr Cemetery. Pall-bearers were Reid Leonard, Henry Bechtel, John A. W. Bell, Lloyd Henderson, Carl Weitzel and Arthur Underwood

Mr. Furlong is resting at the Lounsbury Funeral Home, 1766 Franklin Blvd., Cambridge, on Friday (today) from 2-4 p.m and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, February 25, 2006, at 1 p.m. Interment at Parklawn Cemetery, Cambridge.
