    Notes:

Death of Thomas Holmes - One of Ayr's Oldest Residents Passes Away - There passed to his reward on Wednesday, Jan. 21st at 4.30 p.m., Thomas Holmes, one of Ayr's oldest residents in his 93rd year. Deceased had enjoyed good health during the whole of his long span of life and was ill only a few days before the end came. He was born in Wiltshire, England, and came to Canada, with his wife, in 1858. It will thus be seen he was a resident of Ayr for 67 years, during which time he witnessed the many changes that transformed the crude village of the earlier days into the substantial community in which we now reside. He was a blacksmith by trade and for some thirty years or more was a valued employee of the John Watson Co. In politics he was a liberal and in religion a Methodist. Of a quiet, unassuming nature, he made many staunch friends and was greatly respected by the whole community. He is survived by the following three daughters and one son, his wife having predeceased him about 10 years ago; Mrs. (Rev.) Henry Irvine, Guelph; Mrs. D. A. Clark, Toronto; Miss Louise, at home; and A.W. Holmes, Toronto. The funeral took place on Friday afternoon to Ayr Cemetery, the services being in charge of Rev. R. E. Railton. The pallbearers were Messrs. Robert Cuthbertson, David Cuthbertson, John Goldie, James Fair, Adam Wilson and H. R. Graham.

    Notes:

Death of Miss Holmes -The sympathy of the entire community will go out to Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Holmes in the death of their second daughter, Annie E., who passed away at 10.30 a. m., on Tuesday, May 28 after an illness of several weeks, the immediate cause of death being bronchial-pneumonia. The deceased, who was in her 48th year, had been ailing for some time, but was seized with a sever prostration just two weeks previous to her death. She was born in Ayr and had lived here all her life, having been employed as a bookkeeper with some of the largest firms in town ever since her girlhood - first with the late Wm. Baker, and afterwards with Baker & McColl and Mr. D. McColl, and lately with The Gilchrist-Ramsay Co. and The R. O. Puddicombe Co. She was also prominent in church circles, and for some years was organist and choir leader in the Methodist church, of which denomination she was a devout member. By her associate members of the choir and a large circle of intimate friends Miss Holmes will be deeply mourned. Besides her father and mother, a brother and three sisters survive to mourn their loss. They are - Miss Louisa and Arthur W., Toronto, Mrs. (Rev.) Henry Irvine, Winnipeg, and Mrs. D. A. Clink, Toronto. The funeral, which will take place to the Ayr cemetery at 2.30 p.m. today (Thursday) will be conducted by her pastor, Rev. D. H. Taylor.

    Notes:

Death of Mrs. Clark - The many friends of Mrs. David Clark (nee. Lottie Holmes) were very much shocked to learn of her sudden death, which sad event took place on Thursday, the 28th February, at Toronto. Mrs. Clark was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Holmes of Ayr. Early in the century the subject of this obituary was united in marriage with Mr. David Clark, also of Ayr. Subsequently they removed to Toronto where they continued to reside throughout the passing years. Mrs. Clark was of an amiable, kindly disposition and beloved by all who knew her, and her early demise has cast a gloom over the old home town. She was an active worker in the North Parkdale Methodist Church and in the High Park Club, Toronto. Besides her sorrowing husband Mrs. Clark leaves two daughters, Mrs. Frank Perry and Miss Dorothy; also a sister Miss Louise of Ayr and a brother A. W. Holmes of Toronto.
