    Notes:

    FRASER - A melancholy and fatal accident occurred on Wednesday last on the farm of Mr. James Dickle, near Puslinch lake, to a young man named Simon Fraser, son of Mr. John Fraser, North Dumfries. It appears that Mr. Fraser was engaged in working with a stump machine, and that the crutch over which the heavy chains and links passed from the machine to the stump had sunk on one side to the depth of over a foot. Mr. Fraser was engaged in working to remedy this when the crutch and chain suddenly tipped over and fell with their whole weight upon him, fracturing his skull and injuring him severely internally. He was immediately carried into the house, and Dr. Phillips of Galt called in by whom every possible assistance was rendered, but he lingered on until Monday, when death relieved him of his sufferings. Mr. Fraser was quite a young man and was much respected, and his melancholy death has spread a gloom over the neighbourhood where the accident occurred.

    -There are a number of Frasers interred in Killean Cemetery, who may be related to Simon: Simon Fraser, a native of Inverness, Scotland, who emigrated to Canada in 1837, died at Mount Forest on Oct. 12, 1871, aged 69 years; his wife, Mary, their children, Isabella (Nov. 25, 1835-Dec. 20, 1841); Duncan (Feb. 1, 1838-Mar. 1, 1845); Alexander (Mar. 15, 1843-Mar. 1, 1845); John, who died on May 31, 1872, aged 26 years; Thomas, who died on Jan. 8, 1874, aged 24 years, married Annie Morrison. A daughter, Janet, married Angus Morrison. A son, Donald, who died Mar. 16, 1873, aged 44 years, married Janet McDonald, who died June 10, 1904 on lot 10, concession 12, North Dumfries. Donald and Janet had children Mary, who died at 4 years and Gideon, who died Oct. 19, 1871 at age 7 years and both are buried in Killean cemetery with their parents.

    Well-Known Glenmorris Resident Passes in His 86th Year

    John Brown Fraser of Glenmorris, who was well known to many friends in this vicinity, passed away on Monday morning in his 86th year. His demise followed a stroke which he sustained a few days previously. Mr. Fraser was the eldest and last surviving member of a family of nine, being a son of John Fraser and Mary Brown. He was born on the Brown homestead 9th concession of North Dumfries, now owned by William and Thomas Currie. The family later removed to what is known as the Fraser homestead on the Ayr-Wrigley's highway, now owned by Francis Dedman. As a boy Mr. Fraser attended Wrigley's Corners school, and upon reaching manhood he operated a threshing outfit for a considerable period of time. He farmed in North Dumfries for many years and was known far and wide by a large circle of friends, among whom he was quite popular. He also spent four years in Manitoba. Some 30 years ago, he removed to Glenmorris, and for 17 years acted as night-watchman at the Riverside Silk Mills, Galt. He married Janet Renwick and on March 28 of this year they would have celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary. His widow survives; also one son, James R., of Vancouver, B. C., and two daughters, Mrs. James Sharp (Mary), R.R. 2, St. George, and Mrs. Albert Williamson (Nettie), R.R. 1, Galt: 14 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. One grandson, Gdsm. Allan Fraser Williamson, is serving in Holland with an armoured corps. A daughter, Mrs. James Dryden (Isabella), predeceased him 31 years ago. - The Funeral - The funeral took place to the Ayr Cemetery this (Wednesday) afternoon, with Rev. T. T. Falehney, pastor of First United Church, Galt, in charge of the services. The pallbearers were six grandsons: Lloyd Williamson, Windsor; John Williamson, Sheffield; John Henderson, St. George; Andrew, Donald and Thomas Sharp, Glenmorris.

    MRS. ELIZA FAIRBAIRN

    The death occurred in Guelph General Hospital on Friday afternoon of Mrs. Eliza, Fairrbairn in her 73rd year. Mrs. Fairbairn had been ill for only ten days. Born on the 8th concession, North Dumfries township, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Fraser. For many years she had been living with her son in St. Catharines, but she was well known in Ayr, Sheffield and Galt. For the past two years she had been living with a granddaughter in Guelph,

    Mrs. Fairbairn's husband passed away in 1898 and a sister, Mrs. John W. Bell of Ayr, in September of 1935. She is survived by one son, James of St. Catharines; one brother, John B. Fraser, Glenmorris; one sister, Mrs. George Cadwell, Drumbo, and four grandchildren. The funeral took place from Galt on Monday afternoon to the Ayr Cemetery.

    Native of North Dumfries Township Passes in Woodstock in 73rd Year

    The death occurred at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Harry South, 195 Norwich avenue, Woodstock, on Tuesday morning of Mrs. George A. Cadwell, in her 73rd year. Mrs. Cadwell, who had been ill for several months, had gone to Woodstock from Drumbo the first of April to reside with her daughter. She was born in North Dumfries township, a daughter of Mary Brown and John Fraser, early settlers, her maiden name being Lily Fraser. She had resided in the Ayr and Drumbo district during the whole of her life-time. Mrs. Cadwell was a valued member of Willis United Church, Drumbo. and was well known and much esteemed by many friends in Ayr. who will regret to learn of her passing. Besides her daughter, Mrs. Harry South, Woodstock, she is survived by one brother, John B. Fraser. Glenmorris, and a grandson. Her husband predeceased her on December 30, 1943. Memorial service will be held on Friday afternoon, June 2nd, at 2 o'clock at the Chapel of the Harold W. Gray Funeral Home, Galt. Interment in Ayr Cemetery.

    Mrs. Thomson's Funeral     - The remains of the late Mrs. Herbert Thomson of Newdale, Man., accompanied by her husband, arrived here on Wednesday evening and were interred in Ayr cemetery on Thursday afternoon. Notwithstanding very inclement weather, the attendance was fairly large, a number of friends and relatives from outside points paying their last tribute of love and respect to the memory of the deceased. The pallbearers were Messrs. Wm. Riddell, Geo. Mitchell, Jas. Bell, Geo. Cress, jr., Chas. Conochie and Wm. H. Kenspeer. The services were conducted jointly by Rev. D I. Ellison and Rev.     Mrs. Myrle Stork Passes

    A well-known, lifelong resident of this community, Mrs. Myrle Stork passed away in South Waterloo Memorial Hospital, Galt, on Saturday in her 80th year. Mrs. Stork had been in ill health for some time but had been hospitalized only for a short period. She was born at Greenfield, a daughter of the late John and Maude Fraser. Following her marriage to Sydney Stork, she lived for several years in North Bay until her husband passed away many years ago. Since that time she lived in Ayr until becoming a resident of the Eventide Home in Galt several years ago. The late Mrs. Stork was an Anglican by faith. Surviving is one brother, Guy Fraser of Islington. She was predeceased by a daughter, Eileen, some years ago.

    The Funeral

    Funeral service was held on Monday at Christ Anglican Church conducted by Rev. John Pyke. Interment was made in Ayr Cemetery. The pallbearers were: Henry Bechtel of Guelph, Reid Leonard, John H. Dance, Arthur Underwood, Lloyd Henderson and G. S. Dalrymple, all of Ayr.

    James R. Fraser Passes - Word was received by his niece, Mrs. R. Bruce Carswell of Glenmorris, of the death in Vancouver, B.C., on Monday of James R. Fraser in his 83rd year. He was born on the farm now occupied by Jack George, on the Ayr-Wrigley's Road, a son of the late John B. Fraser and Janet M. Renwick. The farm was cleared by his mother's people and was known as the Renwick place. As a young man he left North Dumfries for Vancouver, where he was a carpenter and house mover. He was active in the Masonic Lodge in that city and for 40 years was treasurer of Cedar Cottage United Church. He is survived by his wife, the former Louise Gimby; daughters, Mrs. Everett (Jean) Crowley of Vancouver, Mrs. Arthur (Evelyn) Dickey of Williams Lake, B.C., and Mrs. Douglas (Dorothy) Baird of Ottawa; also two sisters, Mrs. James (Mame) Sharp of Glenmorris and Mrs. Albert (Nettie) Williamson of Sheffield. Eleven grandchildren also survive. A son, Jack, predeceased him in 1962. Funeral service will be held on Thursday with interment in Vancouver.

    A Sudden Death

    The numerous Ayr friends and acquaintances of Mrs. James Dryden (nee Isabella Fraser) were much shocked to hear of her death in Galt on Tuesday, Jan. 6th. Deceased was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John B. Fraser, who reside five miles east of this town and was married about a year ago to Mr. James Dryden. She was 28 years of age. The bereaved family have the sincere sympathy of the entire community in their great loss. Besides her husband and parents, she is survived by one brother, Jas. R. A private family graveside service was held Monday afternoon at the Ayr Cemetery. She was predeceased by her husband, Albert Williamson in 1976. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. John T.     Mr. and Mrs. George V. Hussey, Roseville road, quietly marked their 25th wedding anniversary Sunday, when they entertained their' family and bridal attendants at a dinner Sunday evening. Prior to the dinner Mr. and Mrs. Hussey were presented with a handsome chest of silver by the Mr. and Mrs. Hussey (Ina Mar-shall) are well known in the com-munity, having farmed on the Hus-sey homestead ever since their marriage, which took place at Blair, at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Marshall, April 17, 1924. Mr. and Mrs. Hussey have two children, Doris at home and Vardon of Greenfield road. . Monday evening the bride and bridegroom of 25 years ago *ere completely taken by surprise when approximately 175 relatives and friends met together in their honor in Glenmorris hall for a dance and euchre. During the evening, Norman MacLeod spoke a few words of good wishes to Mr. and Mrs. Hussey, while Lorne Marhsall and Aubrey Pickard presented the couple with two table lamps. Mr. and Mrs. Hussey, with suitable replies, thanked friends and relatives. The remainder of the evening was spent dancing, followed by refreshments. Music was supplied by August Lis-so. William Eagle and Reg. Spencer with Thomas Currie as floor man-ager. Guests were present from Galt, Kitchener. Hespeler, Hamil-ton, Sheffield, Ayr.     Former Ayr Boy Dies in Sarnia

    Died, in Sarnia, on Tuesday, Sept. 6, at 5 30 o'clock a.m., Roy Wardlaw Powell, in his 27th year. The deceased, who had been ill with appendicitis and complications, was born in North Dumfries, and spent his boyhood in Ayr where he was familiarly known among his companions as "Baden" Powell, Since leaving school he had followed railroading and while located at Port Rowan a couple of years ago married Miss Brown of that place, who survives. Two brothers, James of London and Chester of Hamilton, and a sister at Tacoma, also survive. The funeral, which will be private, takes place today from the residence of his grandmother, Mrs. Alex. Fraser, Stanley streel, at 2: 30 p.m., when interment will he made in the Ayr cemetery.
