    GLENCROSS

The funeral of the late Samuel Roney, whose death on Monday, June 18th, was briefly noted in last week's Banner, was held from his late residence, lot 13, con. 6, east, Mono, on Wednesday, June 20th, the burial taking place in St. John's Cemetery, 7th Line, Mono. Deceased was an old resident of this district and the respect in which he was held was shown by the large number of friends and neighbors of the family who attended the funeral. The services were conducted by Rev. Mr. McCallum, the rector of Mono East parish. The pall-bearers were Messrs. Geo. Moffatt, I. J. Murphy, John Hewitt, Jno. G. McKenna, Henry Allen and Wm. Manley. The late Mr. Roney was born in Armagh County, Ireland, 87 years ago and came to Canada when quite young. He worked in a store in Montreal for several years and also sailed for sometime, before coming to this part of Ontario. Eventually he settled in East Garafraxa on the Gravel Road near Reading, where he resided until he moved to Mono about thirty years ago. Deceased had been quite ill since last November, suffering greatly from gangrene of the left foot. He is survived by a widow, who is a sister of Mr. Wm. Woolner, and a family of four sons and one daughter. The latter are William Roney, of Souris, Man., Samuel, Isaac and Andrew Roney, and Mrs. Wm. Cockeril, all of Mono. The sympathy of the neighborhood is extended to the bereaved family.

    Mono - Pioneer's Death

In our last issue we briefly referred to the death of an old resident of Mono in the person of Samuel Roney, sr., who passed peacefully away on Monday of last week. Deceased had reached the age of 87 and until a short time before his death was hale and hearty. He was born in the county of Armagh, Ireland, but came to Canada when a boy, spending several years in a store at Montreal. Later he sailed on the great lakes for a time and still later took up his residence in East Garafraxa. Thirty-two years ago he removed to Mono and resided in that township until the time of his death. The late Mr. Roney was a fine type of a man and had a high sense of honor. He was very highly respected and his passing has caused much regret. He was a member of the Orange order in Ireland, but never affiliated with the society in this country. He was adherent of the Anglican church and was a staunch Conservative. He is survived by his wife, whose maiden name was Annie Woolner, four sons and two daughters, William of Souris, Man., Samuel of Mono, Isaac, Andrew and Sarah at home and Mrs. William Cockerill of Mono. The funeral took place to St. John's cemetery, 7th Line, Mono, on Thursday afternoon and was very largely attended, which showed the high esteem in which deceased was held. Religious services were conducted by Rev. Mr. McCallum and the pallbearers were Messrs. George Moffitt, I. J. Murphy, John Hewitt, John G. McKenna, Henry Allen and William Manley. Much sympathy is expressed for the family.
