    HAROLD DAVID (PETE) SCHMETZER 1923 - 2008 Pete died unexpectedly, on Wednesday, August 13, 2008, at A.R. Goudie Eventide Home in Kitchener, in his 85th year. Loving husband of Luella (Lue) nee Peppler for 54 years. Father of Corinne and Byron Redmond, Joan and Paul Davidson, Toni and Kelly Veiledal, and Karen and Eugene Boucher. Grandfather to Kevin, Adam, Sarah, Heather, Jesse, Mitchell, Shane, Megan, and Dana. Survived by sister-in-law, Gertrude Schmetzer and seven nieces. Predeceased by his parents, Henry and Emelia (Axt) Schmetzer; brother, Arthur; sister, Hazel Heldman and niece, Elizabeth. Pete proudly served his country during the Second World War with the Essex Scottish Regiment and continued to serve with the Scots Fusiliers and the Highland Fusiliers. He was a member of the Officers' Mess of the Royal Highland Fusiliers of Canada. Pete was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for over 60 years and a charter member of the K-W Khaki Club. He was a longtime employee of Marsland Engineering and following retirement worked as an Officer in the district court of Waterloo County. Cremation has taken place. A memorial visitation will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home , 171 King St. S., Waterloo, on Saturday, August 16 (today) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A memorial service to celebrate Pete's life will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church, 22 Willow St., Waterloo on Sunday, August 17 at 2 p.m., followed by a reception at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 530, Waterloo, 19 Regina St. N., Waterloo. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the K-W Poppy Fund or St. John's Lutheran Church would be appreciated by the family as expressions of sympathy. A special thank you is extended to the staff of A.R. Goudie Eventide Home for their compassionate care. In living memory of Pete, a donation will be made to the Trees for Learning Program by the funeral home.
