    Barbara Lackenbauer Called by Death in 79th Year; Funeral Held Tuesday; Six Children Survive


    After an illness of some duration the death occurred on Saturday, April the seventeenth, at her home three miles west of Elmira of Barbara Lackenbauer, widow of the late John Schedewitz. The deceased was born half a mile west of Elmira on September 28, 1847. She was married to John Schedwitz on October 22, 1868. For several years they lived on the farm occupied at present by Mr. Dan Cressman. Forty-six years ago they moved to the farm three miles west of Elmira where she resided until her death. Her health up to nine weeks ago was good but owing to heart trouble, she was confined to her bed. Of a family of ten children six are now living, five sons and a daughter. They are Simon L., Yatton; John and Henry on the old homestead; Albert and William of Elmira and Clara (Mrs. Oscar Christman) near Elmira. There are also seven grandchildren and one great grandchild. Her husband predeceased her four years ago. The funeral took place on Tuesday afternoon. A service was held at the house at 1: 30 from thence to St. Paul`s Lutheran Church where Rev. Orsen of Kitchener conducted the services.

    SUDDEN DEATH OF MRS. GEISEL

    WELL-KNOWN WOMAN RECEIVES SUDDEN CALL AT HER HOME IN WOOLWICH TOWNSHIP

    A very sudden death occurred on Wednesday evening, May 14th, when Mrs. George S. Geisel passed away at her home in Woolwich Township at the age of 54 years, 10 months and 7 days. Her death was very sudden and was due to a blood vessel bursting in her head. The late Mrs. Geisel's maiden name was Elizabeth Schedewitz. She was born about two miles north-east of Elmira, and after her marriage lived on the same farm for some time. She leaves to mourn her loss her bereaved husband, and two children, one son Theophil near home and one daughter Laura at home, her aged mother and five brothers, Simon L., John L., Albert, William and Henry. There is also one sister Clara (Mrs. Oscar Christman). The funeral will be held on Saturday afternoon at two o'clock at the house, from there to St. Paul's Lutheran Church for service, thence to the Union cemetery for burial. Rev. Mr. Gallmeier will conduct the servicee.

    MRS. GEORGE S. GEISEL

    Many friends and relatives learned with deep regret of the sudden passing of Elizabeth Schedewitz, beloved wife of George S. Geisel, which took place at her home in Woolwich on Wednesday, May 14th., aged 54 years. Deceased was born on the Christian Esch farm, west of Elmira. There survive a sorrowing husband and two children, Theophile of Woolwich and Laura at home. Also an aged mother, Mrs. John Schedewitz of Wallenstein, and five brothers and one sister, Simon L. of Yatton, John L. of Wallenstein, Albert and William of Elmira, Henry of Wallen stein and Clara. (Mrs. Oscar Christ man) of Yatton.

    The funeral, which was largely attended, took place from the late residence on Saturday afternoon, where a short service was held after which an impressive service was conducted at the St. Paul's Luther an church, following which inter was made in the Union cemetery.

    Simon L. Schedewitz - The death of Simon L. Schedewitz occurred on Saturday night at his home in Yatton following an illness of three months duration. The deceased who was in his 64th year was well known in Elmira and district. The son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Schedewitz, he was born on the old homestead west of Elmira, and attended school in Yatton, later going to St. Clements for a short period. Thirty-five years ago he returned to Yatton, where he conducted a blacksmith shop until illness. In 1895 he was married to Sophia Stumpf who survives with four children, Clayton of Preston, Howard of Windsor, Mrs. H. L. Weichel of Elmira, and Reta at home. Three brothers, John, Henry, Albert and William of Elmira and one sister, Mrs. Oscar Christman of Elmira also survive. The body will be resting at Dreisinger's Funeral Parlor, whence the funeral will take place on Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock to the St. Paul's Lutheran church for service. Burial will be made in the Elmira Cemetery.

    Mr. Albert Schedewitz passed away early on Monday, Feb. 12, at his home in Hesson after an illness of nearly three years, although he had been confined to his home for only a short time.

    Deceased who was 69 years of age, was born near Elmira and resided here until about three years ago when he moved to Hesson. He was a member of St. Mary's R. C. Church at Hesson.

    Mr. Schedewitz's first wife, Emma Logel, to whom he was married in 1905, predeceased him four years ago. He leaves to mourn, his second wife, Pauline Schiebel, one sister, (Clara) Mrs. Oscar Christman of Elmira and two brothers, William and John, also of Elmira. Two sisters and two brothers predeceased him.

    The funeral was held on Wednesday morning from the home to St. Theresa's Church in Elmira. Interment was made in the R. C. Cemetery.

    MRS. STROH

    As briefly reported in our last issue Mrs. Margaret Stroh, relict of the late Albert Stroh, passed away alter a painful illness. The funeral took place from her home on Factory St. on Saturday afternoon. Rev. R.A. Eifert of the St. Paul's Church conducted the funeral services, a very large concourse of relatives and friends being present. Deceased had no children, but much sympathy is expressed for her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Schedewitz, who survive her, two sisters and five brothers. She died at the comparatively early age of 37 years.

    Henry Schedewitz

    The sudden death of Henry Schedewitz, R.R. 4, Elmira, occurred shortly before noon Wednesday as the result of a stroke the same morning. News of his death came as a shock to many Elmira and district residents, as Mr. Schedewitz had been in good health previous to Wednesday.

    He was born on the farm where he resided at death on Sept. 23, 1889, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Schedewitz. He was married in 1919 to Edna Hartwig, who survives with three sons, Hilbert, Oscar and Earl.

    Three brothers, John, who resides on the same farm, William of Elmira and Albert of Hesson, and one sister, Mrs. Oscar Christman, R.R. 4, Elmira, also survive.

    The funeral will be held from his late residence on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m., with English service at St. Paul's Lutheran church, Elmira, at 2.30 p.m. Interment will be made at the Elmira cemetery.

    RETA PEARL DUNKE1917-2009 Passed away peacefully, Reta Pearl Dunke was received into the arms of Jesus on the morning of Friday, July 10, 2009. She was 92 years old. She was the former Reta Schedewitz, daughter of the late Simon and Sophia Schedewitz. Born in Yatton on January 10, 1917 where she was raised and also lived in Elmira, Waterloo and for many years on Morrison Road in Kitchener. For the past five years, she has been a resident of Victoria Place in Kitchener. Reta married Carlton Dunke on July 19, 1958. He predeceased her in 1993. She is survived by six nieces and nephews, June Pettie, Wayne Schedewitz, Joan Blackie, Gloria Wegener, Michael and William Weichel. A special great-nephew, Mark O'Leavey also survives. Many great nieces and nephews will remember her. Predeceased by a sister, Gertrude Weichel; two brothers, Clayton and Howard Schedewitz; a niece, Jean O'Leavey; and a nephew, William Schedewitz. Reta loved to paint landscapes and she was fond of travelling. She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Kitchener and she spoke many times of her love for the Lord. Reta's family would be pleased to receive relatives and friends at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home , 171 King St. S., Waterloo Saturday, July 11, 2009 (today) from 6 - 8 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the chapel of the funeral home on Sunday, July 12, 2009 at 2 p.m. with Rev.
