Mannion, Francis Xavier - Passed away, on Christmas Day, in his 79^th year, surrounded by his family, following a valiant struggle with heart disease. As he lived his life, he maintained his sense of humour until the very end. Beloved husband of Dorothy (Bauer) for 54 years; much loved father of Marilynn and John Franks of Cambridge, Rosemary and Gary Holzendorff of Collingwood, Carol and John Jongerius of Elmira, Colleen and Warren Sinclair of Kitchener, Patrick and Katherine Mannion of Richmond Hill, Christopher and Kim Mannion of Cambridge and Kathleen and Bill Staubitz of Ariss; sadly missed by 15 grandchildren, Tim, Kevin, and Heather Franks, Mark and Bethany Holzendorff, Amy, Michael and Holly Jongerius, Daniel, Diana, Megan and Melanie Sinclair, David and Jacob Mannion and Wesley Staubitz and one great-granddaughter, Tishara; as well as a brother, Edward of Toronto. Predeceased by his parents, John and Elizabeth Mannion and two brothers, Joseph and Bernard. Francis was born in Warrington, Lancashire, England in 1919. He emigrated to Canada in 1923 with his parents and brothers and settled in Preston. He attended St. Clement's Separate School and St. Jerome's High School, Kitchener. Following high school, he entered the furniture and funeral business, obtaining his Embalmer's Certificate of Qualification in 1942. Following the war, he managed furniture stores in Preston, Galt, Kitchener and then returned to Galt in 1963 to take over the operation of Mannion's Quality Furniture where he remained until his retirement in 1995 for a total of 58 years in the furniture business. Active in community organizations, Francis was past president of the St. Clement's (Preston) PTA, past member of the Knights of Columbus and the Holy Name Society; was a member and chairman of the Preston Public Library Board and was a charter member of the Preston Kinsmen Club and later a member of the K-40 Club. Friends may call at the Barthel Funeral Home, 566 Queenston Rd., Cambridge, today (Saturday) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Rosary will be recited Sunday at 8: 30 p.m. A celebration of Francis's life will be held Monday, Dec. 29^th at 10 a.m. at St. Clement's RC Church, 745 Duke St., Cambridge. Special thanks to Dr.J. P. Shaman (Cardiac Fitness Centre), Dr. V. Cherniak and Dr. Mookadam. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Cardiac Fitness Centre or Cambridge Memorial Hospital would be appreciated by the family.
