    Enoch D. Snyder, "was born February 28th, 1835. On October 27th, 1857, he was married to Sophia, daughter of David and Susannah (Bergey) Schwartz. She was born June 12th, 1834, and died in Middlesex County, April 21st, 1877. On February 16th, 1879, he was again married to Priscilla Scheifley who was born March 22nd, 184. They reside near Roseville, Ontario, where he is engaged in farming."

    SNYDER - Near Roseville, N. Dumfries Twp., Waterloo Co., Ont., of inflammation of the lungs, Bro. Enoch Snyder, aged 64 years, 10 months, and some days. On Tuesday, Jan. 16, he was at the funeral of Sister Shantz, wife of David Shantz, but took sick before he reached home. In spite of all that medical skill could do, he grew worse. Friday morning, the 19th, death made an end of his intense sufferings. Buried on the 22d at the Roseville (Detweiler's) burying ground. He was twice married and leaves a sorrowing wife, 5 sons and 4 daughters to mourn the loss of a kind husband and a dear father. Services by D. Wismer and Jonas Snyder. He was a faithful member of the Mennonite Church for many years.

    Died At his residence, North Dumfries Township, on Friday, January 19th, 1900 at 9.30 p.m., Enoch Snyder, aged 64 years, 10 months, 19 days. Funeral Will take place from his late residence, on Monday, January 22nd, at 1.30 p.m., to the Roseville Cemetery for interment. Friends and acquaintances will please accept this intimation.

    DEATH OF ENOCH SNYDER.

    The death of Enoch Snyder, an old resident of North Dumfries, after a brief iliness of three days with inflamation of the lungs, took place at his home near Roseville on Friday. Mr. Snyder who was born at Roseville, was 64 years of age, and had owned and operated successfully the farm on which he died, for 20 years. Previous to that he had conducted the St. Jacobs woollen mills for a time. Mr. Snyder was twice married, and leaves a family of 5 sons and 4 daughters. Five of his children are still at home and of the others, one son is in Hamilton, one in Oregon, and one at Roseville, and one daughter, Mrs. E. Rosenberger resides in Michigan.

    Snyder - Bro. Ira Snyder of near Pigeon, Mich., died March 14, 1909, of appendicitis; aged 29y. 2m. 21d. He was married to sister Anna Schaaf in December 1907. He leaves his sorrowing wife, infant daughter, 4 brothers and 4 sisters to mourn his departure, but they need not mourn as those without hope. He was taken ill suddenly about four days before his death and was removed to the Saginaw Hospital where he underwent an operation and died there. His remains were brought to the home of his father-in-law, Andrew Schaaf. Funeral was held Mar. 17, at the Mennonite Church at Berne. Bro. Peter Ropp preached in German, taking for his text, Psa. 16: 6, and Preacher Dodd of Elkton in English, taking the text, Eccl. 9: 10.He was a member of the Mennonite church, also Asst. supt. And teacher in our Sunday school where he will be greatly missed. May God comfort the sorrowing ones.

    Witmer, Sophia, daughter of Enoch and Priscilla (Sheifley) Snyder, was born on June 4, 1881; died Nov. 7, 1962; aged 81 y. 5 m. 3 d. On Jan. 9, 1909, she was married to Jesse Andrew Witmer, who died Sept. 15, 1916. They had two children, both of whom preceded her in death. She served on the staff of the Braeside Home for five years, when her health failed and she became a guest of the home until her death. Funeral services were conducted at the Preston Church, Nov. 10, by Howard Good, assisted by Albert Martin.

    Braeside Home was a home for the aged that served the Mennonite Conference of Ontario and the local community, with a capacity of 25 guests. It was established 1 May 1943 in the town of Preston, Ontario and placed in charge of a superintendent and matron, John A. and Dora Cressman. The formal opening and dedication was held on 1 June 1943. The deed for the property was held by the Mennonite Conference of Ontario. A management board, consisting of five brethren appointed yearly, with the superintendent as a nonvoting member, was responsible for its operation.

    In 1956, the Fairview Mennonite Home, also in Preston (later Cambridge), Ontario, opened and the Braeside facility was closed.

    Witmer.-Verena Ida, the only daughter of Mrs. Jesse A. Witmer, was born in Waterloo Co., Ont., on Nov. 18, 1910; passed away at Preston, Ont., May 24, 1936; aged 25 y. 6 m. 6 d. She had been in failing health for some time and the end came peacefully on the above date. In her early years she accepted Christ as her personal Savior and became a member of the Blenheim Mennonite congregation. She bore her affliction with Christian fortitude, expressing a love for her Savior, keeping on the victory side, and manifested a keen interest in the mission cause. She left a bright testimony and expressed a desire to depart and be with her Lord. Her mother is the lone survivor, her father having died twenty years ago, and a brother a year later. Dear mother of June (Mrs. Fred Seegmiller) of Ayr and dear sister of Carson Snyder of Florida and Mrs. Myrtle Godin of Hamilton. Dear. grandmother of Betty (Mrs. Ted Jacobs) of Kitchener. Mrs. Rutherford was predeceased by two daughters and one brother. Funeral and committal services were held at Coutts and Son Funeral Home, Galt on Monday. Interment Ayr Cemetery.

Mr. Snyder was born at Roseville on October 27, 1900 and was a life-long resident of the Roseville, English Settlement and Dickie Settlement areas. Since 1929 he farmed at Roseville. He had lived at the People Care Centre, Tavistock for the past year. Mr. Snyder was predeceased by his wife, the former Annie Alice Nesbitt, March 7, 1970; his parents Isaiah and Carolyn (Cress) Snyder; also by an infant son and daughter at birth. Lovingly remembered by his daughter Ruth and husband Albert Mitchell of RR 6, Brantford; son, Morley and wife Helen of RR I, Ayr; daughter Jean and husband Robert Habel of Ayr; sister Beatrice (Mrs. James Rutherford) of Kitchener; Myrtle (Mrs. Godin) of Hamilton and brother Carson of Deiroy Beach, Florida. Dear grandfather of: Dennis, Sharon and Don Mitchell; James, Pat, Peter and June Snyder; David, Lynne and Kent Habel. Friends were received at Little's Funeral Home, 39 Grand Ave., Cambridge (G) on Monday evening and Tuesday. The funeral service was held Wednesday, January 11th at 2 p.m. at Little's Funeral Home with Rev. Keith Nicholson of Kitchener officiating. Pallbearers were Dennis and Don Mitchell, James and Peter Snyder, David Habel and Fred Seegmiller. Interment in Roseville Cemetery.

    Passing of a Child - The sympathy of the community is extended to Mr. and Mrs. Jame Rutherford, in the passing of their youngest daughter, Gladys Jean, who death occurred on Friday, January 20th, at the age of one year and eleven months.
