Axt. - Catharine, beloved wife of Andrew Axt, was born in Waterloo Co., Ont., Nov. 6, 1844; died Oct. 8, 1942; aged 97 y. 11 m. 2 d. "Thou shalt come to thy grave in a full age, like as a shock of corn cometh in his season." She was married to Andrew Axt Dec. 25, 1873. This union was blessed with 6 children, 2 sons and 4 daughters. One daughter (Hannah) prede-ceased her Feb. 17, 1889, and another daughter (Lizzie, Mrs. Adam Doering) July 6, 1934. Her husband died July 7, 1923. She was the last surviving member of the Jonas Shantz family; her sister (Mrs. Rosenberger) having passed a-way only a few months ago, at the age of 96 years. She leaves 2 sons and 2 daughters: Ja-cob, of Petersburg; Elam, of Baden; Maggie (Mrs. Warren Bean) of New Dundee; and Lillie, at home. There also survive 19 grandchil-dren, 21 great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends. "She was a mother in Israel" and was wonderfully blessed with health all through her life until the last few years she began to fail. The last nine weeks of her life she spent mostly in bed, when life just seemed to ebb away. She was the oldest resident of Wilmot Township and in her passing one of the oldest landmarks has been removed. Funeral services were held Oct. 12 at the home and at the Shantz Mennonite Church, in charge of Bros. Orphen Wismer, Leslie Witmer, and Manassah Hallman. Interment in the adjoining cemetery.

Philipsburg District Farmer Dies in Tractor Mishap

Austin Doering, aged 55, of RR 2, Baden, died Saturday night as the result of a freak tractor accident along the Wellesley road.
Mr. Doering had taken the tractor to Wellesley to have some wood planed, and was on his way home when the accident happened. His body was found beside the wheel of the tractor early Sunday on the farm of Mrs. Alma Forler, RR 1, Baden.

Corner Dr. C. C. Belyea of Kitchener reported Mr. Doering died of suffocation. According to Provincial Police Constable Harry Pelz, the wheel of the tractor rested against his neck and prevented his breathing, but did not crush his throat. Mr. Doering was found early Sunday by Lloyd Forler, after his mother saw the tractor on her property. It is believed the victim was westbound on Wilmot township road 3 when the tractor left the road and went through a deep drainage ditch, through a fence onto the Forler property and continued into the field before it stalled.

Mr. Doering was born in Philipsburg April 28, 1907, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Adam Doering. He farmed in the area all his life, and also worked for the Kitchener Silo Co. Ltd. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Philipsburg.

Surviving are his wife, the former Ida Becker; two sons Clare of New Hamburg and Wayne, at home; two brothers, Howard of Wellesley, Gordon of New Hamburg; two sisters, Mrs. John (Frieda) Frank of Kitchener, Mrs. Oscar (Eugenia) Hackbart of Heidelberg and one grandchild.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church, Philipsburg by Rev. Oleson of Wellesley and interment followed in the adjoining cemetery.
