Abraham C. Shantz, "was born May 7th, 1844. On February 25th, 1866, he was married to Catharine Goetz who was born April 20th, 1846. They reside on a farm near Shantz Station. To them were born eleven children".

Shantz.--Abraham C. Shantz died at this home in Breslau on April 25, 1922; aged 77 y. 11 m. 17 d. In 1866 he was united in marriage with Catharine Goetz, who survives. There are left to mourn with the wife and mother, 9 children, 32 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren. Brother Schantz united with the Mennonite Church in early life, in which faith he left this world to meet his Maker. He left many evidences that he met his Savior in peace. The funeral services were held on the 27th in charge of Brethren J. S. Woolner and Oscar Burkholder. Text, I Cor. 15: 54.

Mrs. Samantha Schiedel

Taken to Toronto General Hospital two months ago, where she under-went two operations, Mrs. Samantha Schiedel of Breslau, passed away there on Jan, 30 in her 66th year. Mrs. Schiedel was the relict of the late Jacob M. Schiedel, who passed a was 15 years ago. She was born at Shantz Station, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Abram C. Shantz and attended the Breslau M.B.C. Mennonite Church. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Orville H. Mader, Breslau, two sons, Roy and Nelson, Breslau, and 19 grandchildren. Four brothers, Nelson and Irvine Shantz, Kitchener, Joseph and Abram, Breslau, and four sisters, Mrs. John Shiry, Kitchener, Mrs. Joel Gole, Richan, Ont., Mrs. Daniel Brox, Spruce Grove, Alta., and Mrs. Peter Martin, R.R. 3, Kitchener, also survive. The funeral was held Sunday from the home at 2 o'clock and thence to Cressman Mennonite Church followed by interment in the adjoining cemetery.

Mrs. Orville H. Mader, 70, of Kitchener, died Wednesday, Mar. 30, at K-W Hospital, following a short illness. The former Flossie May Schiedel, she was horn in Breslau and lived there until moving to Kitchener seven years ago. She was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church and the Women's Guild of the Church.

Among the survivors are her husband; three sons, Orville Jr., and Frank, Kitchener; Harold of Breslau; five daughters, Mrs. William Wolff (Elaine), New Hamburg; Mrs. Wilfred (Ferne) McKenzie, of Kitchener; Mrs. John (Norma) Dessler, Mrs. Donald (Shirley) Cressman, Mrs. Bruce (Frances) Shields, all of Breslau; a brother, Floyd, Kitchener; 28 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by three brothers and a sister.
Funeral services were held at Holy Cross Lutheran Church on Friday, with Rev. L. E. Wentzlaff officiating. Burial was in Cressman Mennonite Cemetery in Breslau.

Earl C. Shiry of 385 St Leger St. died Wednesday at K-W Hospital following a heart attack. He was 76. Born in Kitchener, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Shiry. He retired in 1963 from the maintenance department at K-W Hospital after 19 years. He had formerly worked at Kaufman's Footwear Ltd. He attended St. Timothy United Church. He served in the First World War with the 118th Battalion. He was an active hockey player in his youth and played for the Kitchener Union Jacks. He was predeceased by one brother, Kenneth. Surviving are his wife, the former Gertrude (Dolly) Lang, whom he married in 1916; one son, Robert of Kitchener; two daughters, Mrs. David (Dorothy) Ratz of Kitchener and Mrs. George (Billie) Rumney of Toronto; one brother, Lloyd of Kitchener; two sisters, Mrs. Arthur (Laura) Slumkoski of Kitchener and Mrs. George (Ellen) Verary of Hamilton; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The body will be at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home after noon Friday and where service will be conducted Saturday at 2 pm by Dr. E. E. Hallman. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery. Donations to the Kitchener Branch of the Canadian Red Cross Society will be accepted as expressions of sympathy.

PEARL MAGGIE BODNAR (nee GOLE) Pearl Maggie Bodnar (nee Gole) aged 97, found peace on August 29, 2011. Pearl was predeceased by her parents, Joel and Catharine, her husband Metro ( Susie ), her son-in-law Mick and her siblings Olive, Milton, Abram and Leonard, and their spouses. Left to lovingly remember are, her daughter Sherrill and her son Jim (Elaine) and her grandchildren: James (Gina), Susan (Allan), Michael (Noni), Joel, Jeremy (Estelle), Renee (Tom) and Mark. She will also be remembered by her 12 great-grandchildren, her sister-in-law Ollie and many nieces and nephews across the country. Pearl was born on June 10, 1914 in Kossuth, Ontario, the youngest of five children. She spent her childhood enjoying the beauty of southern Ontario. The family moved to Richan, ON during the Great Depression. It was in Richan that she met her husband Susie , to whom she was married for 54 years. They started their family in north western Ontario, as they moved from one mining job to another. They settled in Winnipeg where Pearl enjoyed her passions of cooking, sewing, knitting, painting and especially shopping. Everyone enjoyed the benefits of her sewing and knitting skills, and especially her cooking. The food always schmecked! Pearl was an artist. We treasure the family portraits and other works that she created. The family would like to thank the wonderful third floor staff at Parkview Place for their compassionate care, and special thanks to Nettie for being there. Charles A. Schiedel November 14, 2010 Charles A. Schiedel, 92, formerly of Camillus, NY, passed away Sunday in Roswell, GA. Charles was born in Stratford, Ontario, Canada, where he lived for nine years. He resided in Syracuse from 1929 until moving to Roswell, GA, in 2009. He was a Navy veteran of WWII. Owner and operator of Schiedel Cleaners in North Syracuse, he retired in 1973 after 27 years. He also worked for Mor-Track, Inc., for more than 15 years, retiring in 1989. He was a member of the Unity Church of Today in Syracuse. Surviving are his wife of 61 years, the former Frances E. Hunt; son, Kevin (Ana) of Spotsylvania, VA; daughters, Carol (Nabil) Issa of Dunwoody, GA, and Bonnie (James) Nicotra of Lake Worth, FL; four grandchildren (and spouses); one great-granddaughter; sisters-in-law, Beverly Schiedel and Marijane DeVona; and several nieces and nephews. Fran was the Postmaster of the Breslau Post Office until her retirement. She returned part-time to sort mail for many years with her postal family: Kathy, Albert, and Bob. Travelling the world and socializing with her many friends and family was very important to Fran. She was an avid Kitchener Rangers fan, tending goal from her seat at many home and away games. One of Fran's biggest joys was the love and very close relationship she had with grandsons Scott and Mike. For the many years she spoiled them, they returned the love and unconditionally cared for her up until the end. She was truly a caring, giving, and fun person.

Loving mother of Gerry and his wife Sandy and Jim and his wife Carol, all of Evansville and Peggy and her husband Al Scott of Sebringville, Ont. Good friend of Orrie Christman of Waterloo. Dear sister of Kenny Shiry and his wife Marie and sister-in-law of Mabel Shiry, all of Kitchener. June will be sadly missed by her grandchildren, Pam, Penny, Geraldine, Rob, Don, Mike and Gerry and her four great-grandchildren. Predeceased by her husband, Lawrence (Spot) Fulcher in 1971. SHIRY, Kenneth O. - At K-W Health Centre of Grand River Hospital, on Saturday, Dec. 9, 1995, after a courageous battle with cancer, Kenneth Osborne Shiry, of River Road East, Kitchener, aged 68 years.

Ken was a member of St. Mary's Church and had been employed with the City of Kitchener for 37 years until his retirement in 1992.

Dear husband and friend of 40 years to Marie. Father to Ken and his wife Leslie of Kitchener. Sadly missed grandpa to Meghan and Kyle.
Predeceased by his parents, Gertrude and Kenneth Shiry; his first wife, Mabel Gooding; two brothers, Art and Ward and two sisters, Florence and June.

Friends may call at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home, 621 King St. W., Kitch- ener, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, where parish prayers will be recited at 8 p.m. Prayers will be said on Wednesday at 1 p.m. followed by a funeral mass at St. Mary's Church at 1:30 p.m., with Father Bernie Hayes, CR, officiating. Bob Shiry - 1934-2005 - "He must have been a gardener who cared a lot. Who weeded out the tears and grew a good crop. And we are so amazed! We're crippled and we're dazed … a gardener like that one, no one can replace." Elton John, Empty Garden. Some people are remembered for what they've said, others for what they've done. While Dad definitely had a way with words, it's his actions - the way he lived his life with such integrity and optimism and joy that we will remember most. Robert Earl Frank Shiry was a good man. He lived for seventy years. He worked for the K-W Record for 45 years but is life was with his family, a loving and caring husband, dad and papa. His passing has left us - his wife, Marcy; children, Brenda (Tim), Bobby (Angela), and Deb (Mike); grandchildren,, Brooklyn, Satchel, Kristin, Bryn, Dylan, Jazz, Wes - with heavy hearts, but even now the sadness at time, gives way to profound jo0y for having had lived our lives with such a strong, gentle, hopeful, happy wonderful man. - Peace - Please join us as we laugh and cry and remember Dad during visitation at the Edward R.
