    Death Claims Deputy Fire Chief Cluthe

    A member of the Kitchener fire department for 27 years, Deputy Chief Fred J. Cluthe, 52, of 249 Weber St. East, died at St. Mary's Hospital yesterday after a brief illness.

    The deputy chief's death, Fire Chief Kenneth Putnam said today, is a blow to the department. "He was a fine man and one who will be difficult to replace," the chief said.

    NATIVE OF DOON

    Born in Doon May 1, 1901, Mr. Cluthe was a son of Mrs. Leona Cluthe and the late Jacob Cluthe. Surviving is his wife, the former Hilda Braendle whom he married at Kitchener in 1927; a son, Fred, and a daughter, Averill, all of Kitchener, and his mother of Doon. There are two brothers, William, Toronto: George, Kitchener; seven sisters, Kate, Doon; Mrs. Leo Heit, Toronto; Mrs. Andre Abreu, New York, Mrs. Urban Heit, Waterloo; Mrs. Fred Ziegler, London, Ont., Mrs. Samuel Gall and Mrs. Archie Heiman, both of Kitchener.

    He was predeceased by one brother, Lawrence, of Doon.

    PRIVATE FUNERAL

    The funeral will be private with a service at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home Wednesday at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery.
    Rev. E. E. Pletch, pastor of Olivet Evangelical UB Church, will conduct the service. The body is at the funeral home.
