DAVID ELLENBAUM
David Ellenbaum, one of the early and prominent pioneers of Pembina county died on Thursday June 14th at his home in Cavalier, after a short, Illness at the age of eighty-five years and six months.
Mr. Ellenbaum was born in Wilmot Township Waterloo county Ontario, October 14th 1847[37] His father moved from Waterloo county to Wilmot Township Huron county Ontario and here he grew to manhood. He be came acguainted with Miss Mary Jane Gill and on June 24, 1870 they were united in marriage. They engaged in farming for a few years and in 1873 he sold the farm and took up the merchantile business in Dashwood, Ont., to this union were born seven children, two of which preceeded the father to the great beyond. In 1879, they emigrated to Pembina county North Dakota and took up a homestead four miles east of Cavalier continuing the store business for quite a number of years. He was a successful business man and a much respected citizen.. The ways of tranportation were such when he was engaged in the store on the homestead that it was necessary for him to haul the goods overland from Pembina which was the nearest station at that time.
It was in March of 1885 in a series of meetings held by Revs. Hielscher and Mocius that he was converted and united with the Evangelical church of which he was an ardent worker until his death.
Of the loved ones who remain there. are three sons, John Ellenbaum of Munich, North Dakota; Samuel of Regina, Saskatchewan, and Martin of Washington, D. C. also two, daughters. Mrs. Matilda Surerus and Mrs. Florence Bradbeer of Lethbridge, Alberta, Also the beloved wife, one brother: Mr. Daniel Ellenbaum of Sebewaing Michigan: three sisters Mrs. Hachel. Geiger of Pigeon. Michigan, Mrs. Anna Miller and Mrs. Jeha Baker of Ontario.
The funeral services. were held from the Evangelical church in Cavalier on Monday afternoon by Rev. O. R. Breaw assisted by Rev. C. W. Baumann of the Methodist church. In the death of Mr. Ellenbaum this community looses one of its most honorable and esteemed, early pioneers, as well as the Christian man of character.

Sarah Ann Miller Passes Sarah Ann (Ellenbaum) Miller born Oct. 27th, 1842 in Wilmot Tp., in Waterloo County, departed this life at the home of her son-in-law and daugater, Mr. and Mrs. Josiah Sararas, on Friday, Apru 4tn, aged 87 years, 5 mouths and 8 days. Later in life she came with her parents to Hay Township, and in 1860 was united in marriage to Conrad Miller, and on the 14tn con., Hay they lived in happy wedlock for 37 years. 28 sons and 3 daughters were given them three sons and two daugnters predeceased mother, and Father Miller passed this life 38 years ago. Following the father's departure the family continued living on the homestead on the 14ta Con., for five years, after which mother stayed with her daughter Mrs. Sararas for three years, When she moved to Zurich where she has been or the last 24 years. Early in life she gave her heart to her redeemer in the Evangelical faith and to which she kept to the end. Those surviving her are: a sister, Mrs. Samuel Geiger, Pigeon, Mich.; five sons, Ezra of Naperville, Ill; Daniel C. of Los Angeles, Calir; Jonn E. of Swift Current, Sask; Edward of Zurich; Conrad A. of Boyceville, Wis., one daugnter, (Adeline) Mrs. Josiah Sararas of the Blue Water Highway, 13 grandchildren and many other, friends and relatives, who have the sympathy and remembrance of a kind and loving mother. The funeral was held to the Bronson Line on Tuesday afternoon, Rev. W. Y. Dreierer her pastor, officiating.

SCHLUCHTER-Minerva Schluchter, nee Elenbaum, was born March 13, 1846, in Wilmot Tp., Waterloo Co., Ont. She died at her home in Cavalier, N. D., Dec. 11, 1915. In 1865 she was united in marriage to Christ Heist, who preceded her in death in 1869. In 1877 she was married again to John Schluchter with whom she lived 38 years. This union was blessed with 2 sons and 3 daughters, In 1884 she moved with her family to Hamlin Co., N. D., remaining there until about 8 years ago, when the family moved to Cavalier, where they have lived. ever since. At 18 she was converted to God and united with the Evangelical Association, remaining a member until death. The last few weeks of her life was a time. of intense suffering, but she always found comfort in prayer. She leaves to mourn her loss, husband, 2 sons, 3 daughters, 1 sister and 3 brothers. ALLEN O. SHURLY
Allen O. Shurly, 56, of Elmira, died early Thursday, December 12, at his home after suffering a heart attack. He was a sales representative.
Mr. Shurly, born in Galt, Sept. 2, 1901, was a son of Mr. T. F. Shurly and the late Mr. Shurly. He was a past master of Glenrose Lodge 628, Elmira, and a member of St. Aidan's Anglican Church.
He was well known in district entertainment circles as a xylophonist and was a member of the Happy Cousins of Elmira some years ago. He also was a former member of the 54th Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment, RCA, Kitchener.
Surviving are his wife, the former Gladys Jackson; two daughters, Mrs. John (Beverly) Arnold of Fonthill, Ont., and Mrs. Thomas (Jane) Wilcox of Burlington, and two grandchildren.
The body rested at the Dreisinger Funeral Parlor where a Masonic service was conducted in the chapel Friday at 7:30 p.m. The funeral was Saturday at 3 p.m. at St. Aidan's Church with Rev. Harry Donaldson officiating. Burial was in the Elmira Cemetery.
