    Notes:

Mrs. Margaret E. Burrows, California pioneer and one of the early residents of Winters, passed away at her home here Saturday. Mrs. Burrows slipped from her easy chair while asleep last June and fractured a hip. She had hardly recovered from this when a fall recently fractured the other hip. She failed to recover from the second injury, but was bright in mind and cheerful up until her closing days, in her 81st year.

Deceased was a native of Toronto, Canada. Her family joined a covered wagon train for California arriving in 1854 in Placerville. There, she was married to Mr. Burrows who had been a member of the same overland train. Mr. Burrow worked as an engineer in the mines and it was there that the daughter, Jennie, who later married Mr. George Taylor, was born.

From the mines, they went to Rio Vista and at that place Mr. Burrows passed away in 1884. Mrs. Burrows with her family of six, one daughter and five sons came to Winters in 1886 and here she had resided until her death--thirty seven years in the residence of her demise.

In 1899 her daughter, Mrs. Taylor, came to an untimely death, leaving a large family of girls which she raised as a mother. A son, Jackie, passed away in 1899 and the other four children survive. They are William and Richard of Winters, Charles of Dixon and Worthen of Napa. A half brother, James Blacklock of Birds Landing, a 49'er, and a half brother, John Blacklock, of Hollister, also survive. The grand children she raised are: Mrs. Lillie Chamberlain of Sacramento, Mrs. Josie Hammond of Oakland, Mrs. Agnes Wright of Ontario, Canada and Miss Minnie Taylor who remained at home and has been the main stay of her for many years.

Funeral services were held Monday, December 29 from the late residence at 2 o'clock. Mrs. Burrows had been a life long member of the Presbyterian church, but her pastor, Dr. Calton, was ill and Rev. H. H. Wilson of the Christian church conducted the services directed by Ross C. Wilson. [____] service was rendered by Mrs. R. E. Baker and Mrs. J. E. Rice.

The pall bearers were J. R. Briggs, Wilbur Sims, Fred Sims, E. E. Baker, E. H. Edwards and T. H. Fenley. Interment was made in the Winters cemetery.
