    GLENNIE, JAMES

At 84 years of age, a resident of Portage for the last forty years, on Sunday, February 16, 1925, at the General Hospital, after a short illness. A pioneer of Portage, Mr. Glennie was well known throughout the district. He took a prominent part in the social life of the community and only recently sang at concerts given here. He took a great interest in the political activities and was a strong support of C. D. McPherson, defeated Liberal candidate in the last provincial election. Mr. Glennie was born at Aberdeen, Scotland. He came to Manitoba and settled in the McDonald district, later moving to Burnside and Orange Ridge and after a short stay, returned to his home at McDonald. His farms at all these points were decided successes. Mr. Glennie's entertaining abilities brought him before the communities many times and his offerings were well appreciated. He sang at the 50th anniversary of the St. Andrew's Society at Portage about a month ago. He was a member of the society. Survived by three sons, five daughters and twenty- one grandchildren. His wife predeceased him about five years ago.

Additional comments by the Hespeler Herald: Old residents of Puslinch will remember Mr. Glennie, who resided on the Walter Buchanan farm and also on the David Stirton farm, near Memorial Church. Mr. Glennie was quite a singer and used to sing at concerts in the Presbyterian Church.

Ma. JAS. GLENNIE, of Wellington Co., Ont., near Guelph, who has been a two weeks visit throughout Manitoba, left for the east Wednesday. Mr. Glennie was here with a view of settling in this country, and he has been so favorably impressed that he has decided to remove here next spring, and will settle in the Portage laPrairie district near Burnside. He will go extensively into stock raising and mixed farming, and will bring with him a number of pure bred Hereford and and Aberdeen Pole cattle and Shropshire sheep. Mr. Glennie considers our climate and country specially adapted to stock farming.
