    Death of Former Resident

    There passed away at Waterloo on Wednesday morning, Mr. William F. Hamel, a former well-known resident of New Hamburg at the age of 73 years. He had been in failing health for a long time. The deceased was born in Wellesley where he spent his early days and later for some years resided in Wilmot Centre. His wife died there 28 years ago and he then moved with his family to New Hamburg and resided here for 12 years, after which he moved to Waterloo. He was a staunch adherent of the Lutheran faith and was highly esteemed. He leaves three sons and three daughters, William and Henry, of Waterloo, Harvey, of Montreal, Mrs. Joseph Hemmerley, Miss Laura Hamel and Mrs. Gilbert Holle, all of Waterloo, besides six grandchildren. Mrs. Louis Siegner, of this town is a sister. The funeral will be held on Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock form his late home in Waterloo, where service will be held, thence to the Wilmot Centre Cemetery. The service will be in charge of Rev. C. S. Roberts, pastor of the Waterloo Lutheran Church.

    Mrs. Christina Hiller

    The death took place at the Kitchener-Waterloo hospital on Saturday night of Christina Hamel, widow of the late Henry Hiller and daughter of Mr. Wm. Hamel, formerly of New Hamburg. She had been ill for only four days and was in her 46th year of age. The deceased was born in Philipsburg and later lived for a time in Wilmot Centre. She came with her father to New Hamburg after the death of her mother and resided here until her marriage to Harry Hiller of this town, when they moved onto a farm near Linwood. Her husband predeceased her 14 years ago and after that she made her home with her father in Waterloo, where he had moved to from here. The deceased was an active and faithful member of the Lutheran Church. She was active in church work of St. John's Lutheran Church in Waterloo and of the Ladies' Aid Society. She was also a member of the Crystal Rebekah Lodge. There are left in bereavement one son, Harry, her father, Mr. Wm. Hamel, three sisters and three brothers, Mrs. J. Hemmerly, Mrs. Gilbert Holle, Miss Laura Hamel, William and Henry Hamel, all of Waterloo, and Harvey, of Kitchener.

    The funeral was held on Tuesday afternoon with service in St. John's Lutheran church and interment in Mount Hope Cemetery. The service was conducted by Rev. Mr. Reble, of Hamilton, owing the Rev. Mr. Roberts, pastor of the Waterloo church being ill.

    Mrs. Christina Hiller

    Ill only four days, Mrs. Christina Hiller, 66 Peppler street, Waterloo, passed away at the Kitchener-Waterloo Hospital Saturday night in her 46th year. She was born in Philipsburg and had been a resident of Waterloo for the past 14 years. Mrs. Miller was a member of St. John's Lutheran church. The late Mr. Hiller died 14 years ago. There survive, one son, Harry, her father William Hamel, both of Waterloo, three sisters, Mrs. J. Hemmerley, Miss Laura Hamel and Mrs. Gilbert Holle, of Waterloo and three brothers, William and Henry Hamel, of Waterloo and Harry of Kitchener. The funeral was held Tuesday from the residence, followed by service at St. John's Lutheran church. Interment was made at Mount Hope cemetery. Rev. Mr. Reble of Hamilton officiated for Rev. C. S. Roberts, who is ill.

Good Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo, after 2 p.m. Sunday. Funeral and committal services will be held in the funeral home chapel, Monday at 3 p.m., Rev. Jack Dressler officiating. Interment Mount Hope cemetery, Waterloo. Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or Luther Manor would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.

    PTE. EDWARD HEMMERLY

    Serving in Germany, Pte, Edward Hemmerly is reported to have been wounded in recent action, but no details have been received by his wife, Mrs. Effie Hemmerly, 101 Mill St., Kitchener.

    The 30-year-old solidier is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Hemmerly, 13 Princess St., Waterloo. Enlisting July 18, 1944, he went with a reinforcement group to an infantry unit, arriving overseas Dec. 24, 1944. Prior to reaching Germany he fought in Belgium.

    Born in Waterloo, he was educated at Central School and at the K-W Collegiate. He was employed at John Lang & Sons. before
    joining the Canadian Army.



    PTE. EDWARD HEMMERLY

    Pte. Edward Hemmerly, 101 Mill St., who was reported wounded about ten days ago, is now at No. 10 Canadian General Hospital, Belgium, his wife has been informed.. Writing five days after he had his leg broken by a German shell he said he lost a great deal of blood while lying out in the open for nine hours before being located and, given attention. An artery had been severed along with the fracture.

    Passed away surrounded by her family on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 in her 76th year.

    Predeceased by her parents Edward and Effie Hemmerly and brother Robert. Lovingly remembered by her sister Nancy (James) Quantz, her cousin Jane DeForest (Ron), nieces Sharon Quantz (Simon Farlow), Carmen Abel, Lisa Thompson (Chris), great niece Emily and great nephews; Andrew, Matthew, and Aaron . Judy is also survived by two sons who estranged themselves from her. Visitation will take place on Monday, May 7 from 6-9 pm at the Westmount Memorial Celebration Centre (1001 Ottawa St. S.) and will continue on Tuesday, May 8 from 12-1 pm.
