Orville Campbell Dies In Toronto - A resident of Ayr for the past 18 years, Orville Campbell, aged 63, passed away in Western Hospital, Toronto, on Saturday. He had been in ill health for the past year and was recently removed to hospital to undergo an operation. The late Mr. Campbell was born in Guelph, a son of the late Alex Campbell and Emma Clark. As a young man of 18, he secured employment as a train crewman with the C.P.R. on the Guelph-Hamilton line. He eventually became an engineer and held this position for a period of five years before retiring from the railway in 1921 after 16 years' service. He farmed for some time at Vanessa and, prior to coming to Ayr was a market gardener in Scotland Ont., for four years. Mr. Campbell had an instinctive love for the soil; a trait which was largely responsible for the success of the Campbell market garden in this village. Up until last year, when they sold their Willison street property to Robert Reed, Mr. and Mrs. Campbell conducted a flourishing business, finding a ready market for fruit and vegetables with local householders and retailers. The Campbell garden was particularly famous for its crops of luscious strawberries and raspberries which found their way to the tables of practically every home in the vicinity. Surviving, besides his wife, are three sons, Clarence, William and Benjamin, all of Ayr, and two daughters, Mrs. H. Smith (Violet) at home, and Doris of Galt. A brother, Clarence, of St. George also survives. The funeral was held from the W. O. Ball Funeral Parlor on Tuesday with Rev. J. W. Currie in charge of the service. Interment was made in Ayr Cemetery. The pallbearers were his three sons, Benjamin, William and Clarence, and three Watson employees, William Ribble, Harold Cornford and Dee King.
