    Mrs. Nancy McKie

    The funeral will take place Saturday afternoon at 3.15 o'clock, from her late residence, 253 Lowther street, of Nancy McKie, relict of the late Peter McKie, who died at her home, Thursday, morning, following an illness of about 2 years duration. She had resided in town for 2 years, prior to which she made her home on the Freeport-Chicopee road. Surviving are one son, Alexander, of Freeport and four daughters, Mrs. Charles Ludwig, Zion, Mrs. Jacob Hertel, town, Misses Jane and Janetta, at home. Rev. Water Patterson of Knox Presbyterian, which church the deceased attended, will be in charge of funeral services.

    ALEXANDER MeKIE

    PRESTON. Sept. 21— Ailing for a number of years and seriously ill for the past seven months, Alexander McKie, well-known farmer-resident of the Freeport-Chicopee Road district, passed away at his residence at 5.30 last evening. Born on a farm on the West River Road, North Dumfries Township. Mr. McKie, son of the late Peter and Nancy McKie moved with his parents, to the farm residence where he lived and farmed continuously since that time. He took a keen interest in the welfare of the community and municipal affairs of Waterloo Township. He served on the Riverbank School Board for a number of years. and was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church, Preston. Surviving is his wife, formerly Emily Jane Woolner: two daughters, Emily Jean and Donalda, at home: four sons. Robert. Hugh, Arnold and John, all at home and four sisters, Mrs. Charles Ludwig of Zion, Mrs. H. J. Hindson, Mrs. J. R. Hertel and Miss Jane McKie, all of Preston. One sister, Nancy Alzina, predeceased him in infancy. The remains are resting at the residence from where the funeral will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. Interment will be in Preston Cemetery.

    HERTEL, Leonard Richard - "Entered into life more abundant", Leonard Richard Hertel, of St. Luke's Place, Cambridge, on Thursday, Feb. 15, 1996, in his 84th year, at Cambridge Memorial Hospital.

    Beloved husband of Helen Isabel Fisher; much loved father of Paul Eric and his wife Ute Gertrude of Amherstburg, Catherine Frances of Kitchener and Gregory Louis and his wife Karen Anne of Toronto. Also sur vived by two nieces, two nephews, several cousins and many good friends.

    Born in Waterloo township, he was predeceased by his parents, Jacob Richard Hertel and Mary Frances McKie; a brother, Alexander Peter and a sister, Florence Stratton.

    Mr. Hertel was a member of St. Andrew's Hespeler Presbyterian Church, a long time elder and former Clerk of Session. He also served on the Board of Managers, on numerous com mittees and as Sunday School Superintendent in earlier years.

    He retired in 1977 from the Federal Civil Service where he had been a highly respected employment counsel lor in Kitchener and later in Cambridge.

    A talented violinist, Mr. Hertel enjoyed playing in the First Violin section of the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony for 25 years. He also played in numerous area musical groups and musical productions.

    Chairman of the former Hespeler Public School Board for several years, the Centennial Public School on Weaver Street was built in 1958 during his term as Chair. Mr. Hertel was a Past Master of Preston Masonic Lodge AF & AM No. 297, a Past Principal of Preston Chapter R.A.M. No. 245, the Otto Klotz Lodge No. 731 and Heritage Lodge No. 730. He also served as DDGM for the former Wellington District of the Grand Lodge of Ontario and as Grand Superintend ent of the Royal Arch Masons of Ontario, Wellington District No. 4.

    Cremation has taken place.

    Visitation will take place at the Nelson Funeral Home, 1766 Franklin Blvd., Cambridge on Saturday, Feb. 17, 1996 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A memorial service will be held at St. Andrew's Hespeler Presbyterian Church, 73 Queen St. E., Cambridge on Sunday, Feb. 18 at 2 p.m. Clergy officiating will be the Rev. Wilfrid McLeod and the Rev. Gray Rivers of Dundas. Masonic Brethren of the district are
    invited to attend in a body. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Andrew's Hespeler Presbyterian Church Building Fund, Saint Luke's Place or Cambridge Memorial Hospital, would be appreciated.

She was a member of St. John's Anglican Church. Surviving are her husband and two brothers, Leonard of Hespeler and Alex of Preston. The body is at Barthel-Stager Funeral Home, where funeral and committal services will be conducted Saturday, at 2 p.m. Interment will be in Preston cemetery.

Predeceased by his parents, Alex and Edith Hertel and one brother, Richard. Mr. Hertel was born in Preston and had been a lifelong resident of the area, residing in Maryhill for the past 23 years. He was the proud owner/operator of Plastic Prescriptions Ltd. for 39 years, a member of St. John's Anglican Church, and retired as the Church Board Treasurer this past January. He was also a past Master of the Waterloo Masonic Lodge No. 539 AF&AM, Scottish Rite of Guelph, Moore Consistory of Hamilton, Waterloo County Shrine and Mocha Temple of London. The family will receive friends at the Barthel Funeral Home, 566 Queenston Road, Cambridge on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be conducted on Thursday, April 19, 2007 at St. John's Anglican Church, 567 Queenston Road, Cambridge at 1 p.m. with Canon David Bowyer officiating.     Death Notice of Judith Steeb

    Judith Carol Steeb (nee Hertel) of Durham, Ontario passed away at London Health Sciences Centre \endash University Hospital on Thursday, August 11, 2022 at the age of 81. Loving Mother of Mark Steeb (wife Jackie), and Suzanne (late husband Glen Miller), and Cherished Grandmother of Cody Steeb (fiancee Danielle) and Taylor Steeb. Dear Sister of Brenda McGaghey, and also remembered by her sisters-in-law Jane Hertel, and Muriel Steeb and her brother-in-law Richard Steeb. Loving Aunt to all of her nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents Alexander and Edith Hertel and her brothers John, Richard and Doug Hertel.

    Judith was an avid Curler starting in earlier years in Bay Ridges at the Annandale Curling Club, then joining the Hanover Curling Club and finally to Durham throwing rocks with all of her friends. She loved Gardening, loved people that gardened, everything gardening made her happy. Judith was an avid reader and was never found without at least 3 books on the go. She will be missed by all that loved her.

    Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at the Durham Legion on Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at 11 a.m., followed by a celebration of life where further memories of Judith can be shared until 1 p.m.

    Douglas William Hertel DECEMBER 11, 1943 \endash FEBRUARY 24, 2021

    Beloved husband of Jane (nee Eltherington) for 53 years. Loving father of Stephen (Dan) and Samantha (Alex). Proud Papa to Reece and Kaine. Doug will also be lovingly remembered by his sisters Judith Steeb and Brenda McGaghey, mother in-law Lillian Eltherington, brother in-law John Eltherington, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

    He was predeceased by his brothers John and Richard Hertel.

    Doug retired from C.P Rail after 35 years of service. He enjoyed golfing and gardening in the summer and hockey in the winter, but he loved spending time at the "lakehouse" with the dogs and yelling at the umpires at his grandsons' baseball games. His perpetual smiling face will be missed.

    In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place and a private interment will take place at a later date.
