    Brubacher. - Louisa, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Groff, Kitchener, Ont., was born near Waterlo, Ont., March 3, 1864; died Aug. 21, 1942; aged 78 y. 5 m. 18 d. Feb. 23, 1885, she was married to Joseph M. Brubacher, who preceded her in death March 16, 1925. She is survived by 1 son (Harvey, Kitchener), 5 grandchildren, 1 greatgrandchild, 1 brother (Amos Groff, Breslau). 2 sisters (Mrs. Jacob B. Snyder and Mrs. Edmund Shantz of Kitchener). She was an interested mother, a faithful Christian. She was a member of First Mennonite Church of Kitchener for many years. The funeral was in charge of Bro. C. F. Derstine and Bro. M. S. Hallman.     MRS. LOUISA BRUBACHER

    Mrs. Louisa Brubacher, widow of Joseph Brubacher, died at the home of her son at Nine Pines early today following a lengthy illness. She was born near Waterloo 78 years ago.

    A daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Groff, deceased lived near Waterloo until 24 years ago when she moved to her late home at Nine Pines. Her husband died in 1925. She was a member of the First Mennonite Church.

    Surviving are one son, Harvey, of Nine Pines, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. One brother, Amos Groff of Breslau, two sisters, Mrs. Jacob B. Snyder and Mrs. Edmund Shantz of Kitchener also survive. A daughter died in infancy and a sister, Mrs. John E. Schaefer of Kitchener died four months ago.

    Remains will be at the Ratz- Bechtel Funeral Home until 9 a.m. Sunday when removal will be made to the residence. A private service will be held at the home at 2 p.m. with public service at the First Mennonite Church at 2:30 p.m. Bishop C. F. Derstine will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery.

    BECHTEL, Nora (Brubacher) - Passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at her residence, Nithview Community, New Hamburg. Beloved wife of Leonard Albert Bechtel, with whom she would have celebrated 68 years of marriage on June 21, 2009. Nora was born 88 years ago in Waterloo Township, a daughter of the late Harvey and Edna (Eby) Brubacher. She had resided in New Hamburg and was formerly of Preston. Nora was an active member of Preston Mennonite Church and Nith Valley Mennonite Church. She was an avid quilter and pieced many quilts for family and friends. Nora enjoyed knitting, gardening and keeping up with her family's interests. Loving mother of David and Muriel Bechtel of Kitchener, Martha and John Wood of London, Norma and John Lichti of New Hamburg, Dorothy and Richard MacBride of Waterloo, Shirley and Darcy Snyder of New Hamburg. Lovingly remembered by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Greg Bechtel, Krista and Dave Alexander (Dylan and Sadie), John Wood (Meg), Lindsay and Brent Nevin (Ty), Chris and Kim Lichti (Abby and Garrett), Sarah Lichti, Jen and Josh Hiuser (Michaela, Kate and Maggie), Alisa and Ben MacBride-Smith, Jess and Neil Thier (Maya), Trevor Snyder and friend Julia Needham.     BRUBACHER, Ivan

    Born in Waterloo township, Ont., in 1922, Ivan went to be with his Lord on November 20. 1995, following a brief illness. He died at his home in Colonia Aqua Azul, Paraguay, where he lived and farmed with his family for 24 years. He is lovingly remembered by his children, Rosalee and her husband James Rohrer, Paula and her husband Philip Riehl, both of Pennsylvania, Candace and her husband Santiago Arevalo of Paraguay, Timothy and his wife Diana, Isaac and his wife Alma, Albert and his wife Naomi, Oscar and his wife Rhoda, all of Ontario. He will also be remembered by 43 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He leaves four sisters, Nora and her husband Leonard Bechtel. Ella Woolner, Verna Staniek and Elaine and her husband Clifford Snider. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Marie in 1994; his parents, Harvey and Edna (Eby) Brubacher; his step-mother. Louise (Reier) Brubacher; an infant daughter, Ruth Edna; a son, John; five grandchildren and two brothers-in-law. Maurice Woolner and Frederick Staniek. Ivan will be missed by his many community friends and his church family at the Aqua Azul Mennonite Church. A funeral service was held there on November 21. Interment took place in the adjoining cemetery.

Passed away peacefully in her sleep, at Freeport Health Centre of Grand River Hospital, in Kitchener, in her 83rd year, on Friday, September 30, 2005, after a brief struggle with cancer.Ella was born August 12, 1923, in Kitchener, Ontario.Wife of the late Maurice Woolner (1989) to whom she was married for 44 years. Dear mother of Glen and his wife Margaret of Kitchener, Jan Fretz of Waterloo, and Larry and his wife Joanne of Parry Sound. She will be lovingly remembered by her eight grandchildren, Lora Woolner and her husband Mark Schmidt, Aaron, Sara Fretz and her husband Tim Corlis, Greg Fretz, Ana Fretz and her fiance William Loewen, Joshua, Aislinn, and Angela and great-granddaughters Clara Corlis and Morgen Schmidt. Sister of Nora Bechtel and her husband Leonard of New Hamburg, Verna Staniek of Airdrie, Alberta, and Elaine Snider and her husband Clifford of Cambridge. Sister-in-law to Priscilla Szuck, Doreen Woolner and Elvina Woolner. She was predeceased by her parents, Harvey and Edna (Eby) Brubacher, an infant sister, Clarabelle, brother Ivan and his wife Marie, brothers-in-law Leonard Woolner, Walter Woolner, Royden and his wife Mildred, John Szuck, Fred Staniek, and an infant granddaughter, Lisa Andrea. Ella was a woman of strong faith and optimism and an active member of First Mennonite Church in Kitchener where she remained an active participant of the Women's Sewing Circle. She was also a very active member of the Eastwood Community where she resided. Ella could either be found around the quilting frames quilting, binding another comforter, or at the games table playing one of her favourite games. She was a true friend to many and befriended many with comforting words, food, and care. She will be deeply missed. Friends are invited to share their memories of Ella with her family at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home in Kitchener during visitation on Monday, October 3, 2005 from 7-9 p.m. and on Tuesday, October 4, 2005 from 12: 30-2 p.m. at First Mennonite Church, 800 King St. E. in Kitchener. A Funeral Service to celebrate Ella's life and faith will immediately follow at 2 p.m. with Pastor Gary Knarr officiating. After the funeral service and interment, friends and relatives are invited to remain at the church for refreshments and a time to visit with the family. In lieu of flowers, donations to First Mennonite Church or Mennonite Central Committee Ontario would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy and can be arranged through the funeral home. A special thank you to Dr. Richard Kennel and Dr. Ronald Pace as well as the staff at Grand River Hospital, and Dr. Williamson and staff at the Freeport Palliative Care Hospital for their exceptional care and comfort.     Verna Staniek

    July 2, 1925 - September 27, 2016

    Verna Staniek of Crossfield, Alberta, beloved wife of the late Alfred Staniek, passed away in Calgary on Tuesday, September 27th, 2016 at the age of 91 years. Verna was born on July 2nd, 1925 in Kitchener, Ontario to Harvey and Edna Brubacher and grew up on the family farm near Kitchener. Verna studied to be a Nurse's Aide, graduating in 1953. Following graduation, Verna and a friend ventured to the Brooks area, where she began working in the Brooks Hospital as an LPN and then later at the Brooks Nursing Home. Verna met Alfred Staniek, while working in Brooks, and they were married in Duchess in 1954. They were happily married for 35 years, until Alfred's passing. Verna enjoyed quilting, gardening and playing the piano and organ. She was predeceased by her loving husband Alfred, daughter Mary Louise Staniek, brother Ivan Brubacher and sisters Nora Bechtel, Ella Woolner and Elaine Snider. Verna is survived by her children, William Staniek of Brooks and Elaine Reed and her husband Peter of Crossfield; grandchildren, Candice Staniek, Crystal Thibault and her husband Duane, Lance Staniek and his wife Shanon, Brenda Pool and her husband Stephen, Kimberly McLean and her husband Stuart; great grandchildren, Brandon, Kayla and Isaac Thibault, Madilyne and Carson McLean, Tate and Dylan Pool and many nieces, nephew and friends. Funeral services were held on Monday, October 3rd at 2:00 PM from Smith Memorial Chapel. Pastor Nathan Ramer officiated. Cremation followed at Smith Funeral Home Ltd. And Crematorium. Elaine was born January 5, 1927 south of Kitchener and was the daughter of the late Harvey and Edna (Eby) Brubacher and the step-daughter of the late Louisa (Reier) Brubacher. Beloved wife of the late Clifford Snider Sr. (2006). Elaine was blessed with a large step family. She is survived by children Clifford (Vivian) Snider Jr., John (Vera) Snider, Mary (Bernie) Shantz, and Barbra (John) Klaver. Also remembered by her sister Verna Staniek of Alberta and all of her dearly loved nieces and nephews. Elaine was blessed with 16 grandchildren, 27 great-grand-children and four great-great-grandchildren. Predeceased by her daughter and son-in-law Grace (David) Tomlinson, daughter-in-law Ethel (Stevanus) Snider and son-in-law Ervin Jewett. Also predeceased by sisters and brothers-in-law Nora (Leonard) Bechtel, Ella (Maurice) Woolner, brother and sister-in-law Ivan (Marie) Brubacher, brother-in-law Fred Staniek, a sister Clarabelle (in infancy) and several nieces and nephews. Elaine attended Rockway Mennonite High School - now Rockway Mennonite Collegiate Institute 1946-1950 and graduated from K-W Hospital School of Nursing in 1953, as a Registered Nurse. She worked two tours of Voluntary Service under the Mennonite Central Committee. From 1955-1958 she worked in Newfoundland as a District Nurse and from 1960-1962 she worked in the health field in Haiti. The remaining years were spent in local hospitals. She retired from Cambridge Memorial Hospital in 1986 to help Clifford with his passion of farming. Elaine was a member of First Mennonite Church from the age of 12 and resided many years in her home in Cambridge and since 1993 she resided at Fairview Mennonite Home. She loved playing Scrabble with her dear friend Dorothy Shantz, attending all the Sunday evening services at the Fairview Auditorium. The lunch bunch trips were enjoyable for Elaine as well was all other special events at Fairview Home. Elaine will be missed by all who knew and loved her. The family wishes to thank all the emergency doctors and nurses at Cambridge Memorial Hospital as well as all of the medical staff on the 5th floor for their care and support during her most recent stay. We especially want to thank Kate at Trinity Village for her compassion. There were also numerous CCAC and paramed workers that attended Elaine over the past few months at Fairview that we want to thank. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Elaine's family on Monday, October 31, 2011 from 7-9 p.m. and on Tuesday, November 1, 2011 from 7-9 p.m. at the Henry Walser Funeral Home , 507 Frederick St., Kitchener (519-749-8467) and also from 2-4 p.m. on Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at the Fairview Mennonite Home Auditorium 515 Langs Drive, Cambridge. The Funeral Service for Elaine will take place at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at First Mennonite Church, 800 King St. E. Kitchener followed by a reception. Pastor Gary Knarr officiating. Interment St. Agatha Mennonite Cemetery following the reception.     Esther died peacefully, at St. Mary's General Hospital, on Tuesday, September 12, 2006. She was 58. Esther is the beloved daughter of Nora (Brubacher) and Leonard Bechtel of New Hamburg. She will be lovingly remembered by her brother, sisters and their spouses; David and Muriel Bechtel of Kitchener, Martha and John Wood of Kilworth, Norma and John Lichti of New Hamburg, Dorothy and Richard MacBride of Waterloo and Shirley and Darcy Snyder of New Hamburg. Her nieces, nephews and their families will also remember Esther. She grew up in the Preston Mennonite congregation where she remained a lifelong member. In her early adult years, Esther worked as a Registered Nursing Assistant and Dental Assistant until schizophrenia curtailed her career plans. Esther struggled with her illness for many years. More recently, she was able to experience some contentment. Her family, friends and faith were important to her. Her family is grateful to the caregivers and residents of Millwood Manor who supported Esther. Friends are invited to share their memories of Esther with her family at Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street South, Waterloo, on Thursday (today) from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral service to remember her life and faith will be held on Friday, September 15, 2006 at 1 p.m., at Preston Mennonite Church with Rev. Claire Osinkosky officiating.
