    Death of Mrs. Schamber.

    An old and esteemed resident of this community passed away last Saturday in the person of Mrs. Jacob Schamber at the age of 84 years. Deceased was born in Germany and came to this country with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Ruppel.in her early childhood. The family took up their residence in New Hamburg. where she grew up and was confined in the Lutheran faith. Upon her first marriage to Michael Hoffmeier, she took up her residence on a farm in North Easthope, where she resided ever since. Her first husband predeceased her many years ago and she later married the late Jacob Schamber. She is survived by a family of fourteen children, six by her first marriage and eight by the second besides 31 grand children and 11 great grand-children. The surviving family are: Mrs. Conrad Hoerle, Wellesley: Casper Hoffmeier, North Easthope: Mrs. Louis Ruthig, Wilmot; Mrs. Conrad Heldman, Baden; Mrs. Fred. Boettinger, Toronto; John A. Hoffmeier, Baden; Mrs. John Wettlaufer, Christian Schamber, Mrs. Peter Stueck, Mrs. Edwin Becker, in North Easthope; Mrs. George Wettlaufer, Cassel, and Mary Barbara and Jacob Schamber on the homestead. The funeral was held on Tuesday afternoon to the Philipsburg Lutheran church and cemetery.

    Mrs. Catherine Hoerle

    Mrs. Catherine Hoerle, 88, widow of Conrad Hoerle, died at her home in Wellesley last Friday afternoon. Born in North Easthope Township, she was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

    Surviving are a son, Theodore, Kitchener, a daughter, Miss Elisabeth, at home, four grand-children, and one sister, Mrs. Louis Ruthig, New Hamburg. Five half-brothers and two half-sisters also survive.

    Private funeral service was held at the home on Monday, a public service following at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Rev. William Noising officiated. Interment was in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery.

    WELLESLEY, May 2. - Mrs. Catherine Hoerle, 88, widow of Conrad Hoerle, died at her home here yesterday afternoon. Born in North Easthope Township, she was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

    Surviving are one son, Theodore of Kitchener, one daughter. Miss Elizabeth at home, four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Louis Ruthig of New Hamburg. Five half-brothers and two half-sisters also survive.

    One of the district's older residents, Mrs. Julianne Ruthig, 89, wife of Louis Ruthig, died at the home of her son, Reuben Ruthig, just north of the village, Wednesday morning. . She had suffered a stroke after being in poor health for some time.

    Mrs. Ruthig was born in North Easthope Nov. 9, 1856. She was married 65 years ago to Louis Ruthig and resided in Wilmot Township on the farm now owned by their son Reuben. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

    Besides her husband, two sons and three daughters survive, Emory and Reuben, R.R. 3, New Hamburg, Mrs. Lavina Rau and Mrs. Alan Wilhelm, New Hamburg, and Mrs. Henry Seyler, Tavistock.

    NEW HAMBURG, May 27 - Ill for the past three years, Mrs. John Wattlaufer, age 69, North Easthope died at the London hospital yesterday from a heart attack. Born in North Easthope Township on July 11, 1858, deceased was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Schamber's. She was married at North Easthope on Dec. 12, 1890.

    Surviving are her husband, one daughter, (Edna), Mrs. Edwin G. Doering of Philipsburg, two sons, Rueben of Philipsburg, and William of North Easthope, two brothers, Jacob of North Easthope, and Christ of Philipsburg, five sisters, Mrs. Henry Rueter of Philipsburg, Mrs. Annie Wettlaufer of Cassel, Mrs. P. Stueck, Mrs. Ed. Becker and Miss Barbara, all of North Easthope, and three step-sisters, Mrs. H. Hoerle of Wellesley, Wirt Louis Ruthig of New Hamburg, and Mrs. Trod Beodinger of Toronto, and six grandchildren.

    Funeral will be private from the residence on Monday afternoon at 1: 30 o'clock to Philipsburg Lutheran church with interment in the adjoining cemetery. Rev. G. R. Schultz will officiate.

    By Record Correspondent - Wellesley, Feb. 1 - The death of Christian Schamber, 76, occurred at the home of his son, Leslie, early today.

    Son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Schamber, he was born in North Easthope Township, Sept. 10, 1869. He farmed in North Easthope for many years until he retired to Philipsburg where he resided until the death of his wife the former Catherine Stueck in 1942. He was a life member of Zion Lutheran Church, Philipsburg.
    Surviving are two sons, Leslie, Wellesley and John of North Easthope; two daughters, Mrs. Harvey (Clara) Schmidt of Hamstead, and Alice Schamber of Kitchener. Also surviving are one brother Jacob of New Hamburg and five sisters, Mrs. S. Becker, North Easthope; Mrs. George Wettlaufer of East Zorra; Mrs. Henry Rueffer, Miss Barbara Schamber, and Mrs. Peter Stueck of New Hamburg.

    The remains are resting at the Futher Funeral Home, Wellesley, where a private service will be held at two o'clock, Monday, followed by a public service at Zion Lutheran Church, Philipsburg, at 2: 45 pm. Interment will be made in the adjoining cemetery. Rev. Mr. Friedrickson will officiate.

    Train Crew Exonerated At Ruthig Inquest

    The inquest to determine the cause of the death of Louis A. Ruthig, who was found near the C. N. R. tracks about three miles west of New Hamburg Monday morning of last week was held in the Shakespeare Hall on Monday evening. The hall was packed to the door, many having standing room only.

    About sixteen witnesses were examined and according to the evidence the only facts brought out were that he left his home about 5.45 on Sunday morning to patrol the C. N. R. right-of-way between New Hamburg and Shakespeare, that he was last seen alive about 9 o'clock in the morning when he called at the home of Mr. Peter Horst where he got a glass of cider and returned to his duty. His cap was found on the fender of a freight at Shakespeare. This train came through New Hamburg about 5.15 p.m. The victim's watch stopped at 5.25. This would be about the time the train reached the spot where the body was found.

    After a short deliberation the jury brought in the following verdict:

    "We the jury find that Louis Ruthig came to his death about 5.15 on the afternoon of May 4th, 1930, by being struck by a train on the C. N. R. right-of-way between New Hamburg and Shakespeare and that no blame for the accident is attached to the train crew."

    It was the general opinion that the unfortunate man was killed by a train. He appears to have had no enemy and the thought that his death may have been from some other cause was not entertained in the least. The money he carried was found on his person. The disappearance of the hammer which he carried is still a mystery, but in all liklihood [sic] this will also be found in time.

    Following a prolonged illness, Miss Ella Barbara Ruthig passed away at the home of her sister, Mrs. Alan Wilhelm, here on Monday morning, April 20, at the age of 46 years.

    The deceased was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Ruthig and was born on the farm northwest of New Hamburg. She spent her whole life in this community and had a large circle of friends who regret her passing. During her long illness she received tender care at the home of her sister and bore her affliction with true Christian fortitude She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church here.

    Besides her aged parents, she leaves in bereavement, three sisters, Mrs. Lavina Rau and Mrs. Alan Wilhelm, New Hamburg, Mrs. Henry Seyler, Tavistock and two brothers, Emory and Reuben Ruthig, New Hamburg.

    The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon with a private service at the house, followed by public service in Trinity Lutheran Church, which was attended by a large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends. The pastor, Rev. H. R. Mosig, conducted the funeral services.

    He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Phillipsburg; and will be well remembered as an exhibitor at the local fall fairs, for 50 years.

    Beloved husband of the former Idelia Doering; dear father of Shirley (Mrs. Stuart Honderich) and Jean (Mrs. Ernie Faulhafer), both of Baden. He is lovingly remembered by his four grandchildren, Cath and Susan Honderich and Christopher and Sara Faulhafer.

    He was predeceased by his parents, the late John Wettlaufer and the former Salome Schamber; a brother Reuban; a brother in infancy and one sister, Edna (Mrs. Edwin Doering).

    Friends and relatives may call at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, New Hamburg Chapel, 291 Huron St., until noon Tuesday, May 10, when transfer will be made to Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Phillipsburg, for service at 2: 30 p.m., with Rev. Douglas Kranz officiating. Interment to follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Wettlaufer had farmed in the Phillipsburg area, North Easthope Township, before retiring in 1962. A member of Zion Lutheran church, Phillipsburg, a member of the church board; the New Hamburg Turf Club; the Canadian Order of Foresters, Court Nith 227, Phillipsburg; secretary and manager of the Wilmot Agricultural Society. A son of the late John Wettlaufer and Solome Chambers. Survived by his wife the former Irene Hoerle; also by two sons, Norm and Jim, both of New Hamburg; one daughter, Mrs Jack (Helen) Pearson, also of New Hamburg; one brother, William of Route 1, New Hamburg, and eight grandchildren. Was predeceased by one sister. Will rest at the Bruce J, Omand Funeral Home, 291 Huron St., New Hamburg, where friends will be received today (Tuesday) from 7-9 and Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9.
