    DEATH OF H. DUENCH, SR.

    The death of Henry Duench sr., occurred at the home of his son, near Linwood, on Thursday last, April 14th in his 86th year. He had been living with his son, Henry Duench, in this village, and was, as usual, enjoying the best of health. About two weeks ago went on a visit to his son's near Linwood, where he was taken with the illness to which he succumbed, prize winners. Deceased was born at Grebanan, Kreisz, Alsfeldt, in Germany on March 26, 1819. When 23 years of age he came to this country, and that village on Monday last to take five years later-in 1847-he moved onto a farm on Hesse street, where he lived continuously for fifty-six years, until six months ago, when he moved to the home of his son, Henry in this village. He always well liked by everybody who knew him. His family consists of seven sons all of whom are living in this section As follows: Christian, near St. Clements; Jacob at Attica, N. Y.; Henry in this village; William, George and Stephen, near Linwood, and Louis on the Homestead. The funeral was largely attended, and all the boys were present.

    Mr. Christian Duench passed away last night about 11 o'clock at his home, 71 Water Street following an illness of one week's duration. Last Wednesday he suffered a stroke from which he never rallied. The deceased who was in his 75th year was born in Wellesley township, March 4, 1848. For a number of years he has resided in town and was well and favorably known and his death will be learned with regret by a large circle of friends. To mourn his death there are left the sorrowing widow, and two sons, William H. of Kitchener and Edward of Waterloo. Four brothers, Henry, Kitchener; George, Linwood; Louis, Bamberg, and Stephen of Wallenstein also survive. The funeral will take place Saturday afternoon at 2: 30 o'clock from his late residence 71 Water Street to Mt. Hope cemetery, Kitchener, for interment.

    Henry Duench

    Death called Henry Duench, 203 Frederick Street, following an illness of eighteen months duration. The late Mr. Duench who has been a resident of this city for the past 26 years was born in Bamberg. He was formerly in the employ of the Merchants Rubber company. Deceased was a devout member of the St. Paul's Lutheran church. Surviving are two sons and one daughter. They are John, Walter, and Mrs. August Kudoba. Three brothers, Louis and Steven of Linwood and George of Bamberg also survive. The funeral will take place from his late residence on Sunday afternoon at 2: 30 o'clock. Services will be held at the home followed by a public service at the St. Paul's Lutheran church at 3 o'clock. Interment will be made in the East End Lutheran cemetery.

    GEORGE DUENCH

    George Duench, formerly of Linwood, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. James Searles, 44 Mansion Street, yesterday at the age of 84 years.

    Mr. Duench was born in Bamberg. He attended St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Linwood and St. Luke's Church, Sunnyside.

    Surviving are four sons, John Duench of Milverton. Henry and William of Kitcheher and Nelson of Waterloo; three daughters, Mrs. James Searles and Mrs. Albert Dechert, Kitchener. and Mrs. Charles Fink of Preston, also 39 grandchildren and 13 great-grand-children. One daughter, Mrs. August Schlueter, died 12 years ago and one son, Allan, five years ago.

    The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon with service at the Ratz- Bechtel Funeral Home at 3 o'clock followed by service at St. Peter's Lutheran Church. Linwood, at 4 o'clock. Interment will take place in Linwood Lutheran Cemetery. Rev. Homer Berner will conduct the service at the funeral home and Rev. E. E. Schweitzer will officiate in Linwood. The remains are resting at the funeral home.

    HESSEN ROAD, April 16 - Louis Duench, farmer of this community, passed away, suddenly at his home early this morning. He was in his 75th year.

    The late Mr. Duench is survived by his wife and two daughters, Edna and Alberta, at home. One brother, George, of Erbsville, also survives.

    The funeral will be held Monday afternoon at two o'clock with services at St. John's Lutheran church here. Interment will be made in the adjoining cemetery.

    LINWOOD, Oct. 16 - Ill ten weeks, Stephen Duench, who observed his 70th birthday only 17 days ago, passed away at his home here yesterday. He was born at Hesson Road and was married in 1891 to Marie Schlueter. Deceased was widely known in this locality, having farmed here for 27 years. He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church.

    Surviving are his widow, six daughters, Emma, Mrs. August Schneider, Hawkesville, Hilda, Mrs. Edwin Hackburt, Hesson Road, Clara, Mrs. Bruno Giese, Linwood, Miss Louise at home, Miss Irene of St. Jacobs, Miss Laura in Petersburg, and five sons, Aaron of New Dundee, Charles and Andrew at home, Norman in Heidelberg, Albert of New Dundee. Two daughters predeceased him. Twenty-five grandchildren and two brothers, Louis Duench, Hesson Road, and George of Erbsville, also survive.

    The funeral will be held Friday afternoon with a short service at the home at 1: 30 o'clock and thence to St. Pater's Church here for services at 2 pm. Interment will take place in the adjoining cemetery. Rev. W. Shcultz will officiate.

    The death ocurred at noon today of William H. Duench, 80, at his residence, 61 Samuel sreet, after an illness of only a week. Deceased was born in Bamberg, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Christian Duench. He was a member of St Matthew's Lutheran church and served on the church board for three years.

    Surviving are his wife and one brother, Edward, Waterloo.

    News Items: - The Grim Reaper is busy in our vicinity. Mr. Julius Duench passed away suddenly at his home on the 5th Con. Wellesley Tp.. on Sunday morning, Jan. 17th. Funeral took place on the following Wednesday from his late residence to the Hessenstrass Lutheran church, thence to the cemetery. The deceased was in his 30th year. He is survived by his bereaved wife an infant son and parents, Mr. and Mrs. Christian Duench of Waterloo, Mr. and Mrs. Hy. Gremm, of Wellesley Tp., and two brothers, Wm. in the West and Edward of Waterloo also sur- vive. He was well known and highly respected by his acquaintances.     Untimely and Sad Death of Well Known Young Tailor of City Was in his 32nd Year


    The many friends in this city of Albert Duench will be grieved to learn of his death which occurred at the home of his father-in-law, Jacob Scharlach, 111 Lancaster Street, Sunday evening at 7 o'clock. Deceased was a tailor and until compelled to retire owing to failing health had been employed at Bucknell's custom tailoring establishment. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and took an active interest in the work of the various societies of the church. About a week ago Mr. Duench was compelled to take to his bed and since that time his condition grew gradually worse until finally the end came yesterday evening. Deceased was born in Wellesley, 32 years ago, and was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Duench of that place. He is survived by his wife and three small children; also two brothers and one sister, John and Walter Duench and Mrs. August Kudoba, of this city. He is also survived by his father, Henry Duench, of Wellesley. Mr. Duench was a popular resident of the city and had a genial nature which endeared him to all with whom he came in contact. He was an exemplary father and husband and his death comes as a severe blow to his bereaved family. The funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the residence of Jacob Scharlach and later from St. Paul's Lutheran Church, where services will be held. Interment will be made in Mount Hope Cemetery.

    A resident of Kitchener for more than 50 years, Mrs. Julia Kudoba, 73, of 100 Borden Ave. North, died today at the K-W Hospital after a brief illness.

    Mrs. Kudoba was born Aug. 21, 1885, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Duench of Wellesley. She was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church. Her husband, August Kudoba, whom she married in Kitchener in 1906, died March 26, 1953.

    Surviving are three daughters, Miss Florence Kudoba of Kitchener, Mrs. K. B. (Margaret) McTavish of Toronto, Mrs. K. A. (Marie) Stuebing of Winnipeg, and five grandchiIdren. Four brothers and one sister predeceased her.

    An insurance salesman for Otto Smith and Company, Ltd., for 34 years, John H. (Jack) Duench, 64, of 78 Chestnut St., died today at his home after a long illness. Born in Wellesley, he was an active member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Kitchener. He taught in the Sunday school and was supervisor of the senior department for many years. He was a member of the IOOF and was on the executive of the 20th Cub Pack.

    1919 he married the former Goldie Hebel, who died in 1947. Surviving are one son, Garvin of Kitchener; two daughters, Mrs. Douglas (Phyllis) Trury, Galt and Mrs. Alfred (June) Lindsay, Kitchener; one sister, Mrs. August Kudoba, Kitchener; and seven grandchildren. A son, Floyd, died in 1945. The body is at the Schreiter Sandrock Funeral Home.     A grocer in Kitchener for 40 years. Walter G. Duench, 59, of 61 Ellen St. East, died early today at KW Hospital following a lengthy illness. Born Feb. 18, 1895, in Wellesley. he was a son of the late Henry Duench and Christine Forler.

    He started in the grocery business 40 years ago with August Kujdoba on Waterloo street in 1919 he opened a store at the Five Points. Frederick street. He retired last September.

    Prominent in Masonic circles, he was a member of the Grand River Lodge, AF and AM and of the Kitchener chapter. RAM. He served as principal of the latter lodge and was treasurer for 23 years. He was elected to the Grand Council of Anointed High Priests of Ontario.

    On Nov. 6, 1917, he married the former Elizabeth Arndt who survives. He was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church.

    Surviving besides his wife are a daughter, Mrs. William (Betty) Wolfe of Kitchener; a brother, John, and a sister, Mrs. August (Julia) Kudoba, both of Kitchener. One grandson also survives. Three brothers, Albert. William and Carl and one sister, Clara, predeceased him.

    The body is at the Schreiter Sandrock Funeral Home where the service will be conducted Monday at 3 pm. Burial will be in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery.

    In the absence of Rev. Dr. Schmieder, Rey, H. A. Baetz will officiate, assisted by Rev. F. G.. Stewart of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church.

    MRS. EMMA SCHLUETER

    LINWOOD, Dec. 9 - Following a lingering illness, Mrs. Emma Schlueter passed away at 1:30 am today at her home. She was in her 60th year. Deceased was born in Waterloo July 20, 1883 and was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Linwood.

    Her husband, four sons and five daughters survive. They are, Albert, Norman, Nelson, Harry, Augusta, Gertrude, Nellie, Margaret and Elsie, all of Linwood. Two sons predeceased her. Three brothers, John Duench, Milverton, Henry Duench and William Duench, both of Kitchener, and two sisters, Mrs. James Searles and Mrs. Dechert, both of Kitchener, also survive.

    The funeral will be held on Monday with private services for relatives at the home at 2 o'clock, thence to St. Peter's Church. Burial will be made in the Linwood Lutheran Cemetery. Rev. Wm. Schultz will officiate.

Mr. Duench was an employee of the Sunshine Waterloo Company for the past 17 years, and was a member of St. James' Lutheran Church, St. Jacobs.

    In addition to his wife he is survived by one daughter, Pauline, at home; four brothers Aaron, RR 2, Petersburg; Charles and Andrew of RR 1, Wallenstein; and Norman of Kitchener; five sisters, Mrs. Emma Schneider of Hawkesville, Mrs. Edwin Hackbart of Waterloo, Miss Louisa Duench of RR 1, Wallenstein, Miss Irene Duench of St. Jacobs and Miss Laura Dench, RR 2, Petersburg. Three sisters predeceased him.

    The body will be at Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home until noon Thursday, when removal will be made to the home. Mr. Duench taught Sunday School for many years.

    Besides his father, he is survived by his wife, the former Evelyn Schaefer, and a daughter, Carolyn, nine years.

    Funeral service will be held Monday at 2: 30 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Parish Hall with Rev. A. L. Conrad officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. The body will be at the Edward R. Good Funeral Home until Monday at 1 p.m. when removal will be made to the church. Friends are asked to pay their respects prior to the time of the service.

    ALVIN H. DUENCH 1912 - 2007 - Passed away peacefully, at Sunnyside Home, Kitchener, on Wednesday, April 18, 2007, at the age of 94 years. Alvin was born in Wellesley Township. He was married to Lydia (nee Goettling) in 1930. Together, they raised their four children and after various work experiences, he worked for the City of Waterloo Works Department until his retirement. Alvin faithfully ushered at St. John's Lutheran Church for 47 years and lived at his home in Waterloo for more than 60 years. Alvin was predeceased by his beloved wife, Lydia, in 2000; and his half-brothers, Dick, Fred, and Herman Wolfe. He is survived by his children, William (Maureen), Marie (Denis) Morneau, Margaret (Bill) Fetter, and Donald (Ruth). Grandchildren, Lee Ann, Patrick, Christopher, and Kerry Duench, Tara (Ron) Brown, Melissa, Shannon, Nichole, Kathleen and Jaimie Duench, Rosemarie and Terry Morneau, Alison, Corinne and Tim Fetter, as well as one great-granddaughter Daniela Duench. Also survived by his half-sister Elsie (Arno) Schafer and "adopted granddaughter" Pat Cornwall.     Marie Eleanor Ainsworth (nee Duench) passed away on Monday, April 10, 2006 at the age of 97. Beloved wife of the late Herbert Ainsworth who predeceased her on April 4, 1965. Also predeceased by her parents, Albert and Eleanora Duench; brothers, Carl and wife Ethel Duench, Howard and wife Edith Duench; daughter, Ruth Hutchinson and niece, Susan Ward. Loving mother of Douglas (Claudia) Ainsworth of Brantford. Loving Nana of Julia, Christina and Alexander Ainsworth, Brenda Abate (Sabastian), and great-grandmother of Stacey and Anthony Abate. Loving aunt of Robert Duench (Pat), Judith Biesinger (Larry), Pat Pond, Cheryl Schnurr (Ray), Bill Duench and also survived by a number of great-nieces and nephews. After moving from Elmira to Waterloo in 1965, Marie became a faithful member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. She participated in the Ladies of Redeemer, the Tuesday morning quilting group and Tuesday with a Twist Supper and Bible study. She also enjoyed her membership with the Young at Heart as well as the Happy Gang of Historic St. Paul's Lutheran Church Kitchener. The family wishes to thank Pat Pond for the years of loving care she gave to Marie.

Until her retirement in 1973, she was the Director of Public Health Nursing for the Region of Waterloo. Florence was a very active and devoted member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church.

    Miss Kudoba Bride Of Mr. K. B. McTavish A wedding of interest in this city took place at the Avenue Road Presbyterian church, Toronto, at
    four o'clock this afternoon when Miss Marguerite L. Kudoba, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. August Kudoba, Samuel street, became the bride of
    Mr. Kenneth B. McTavish of Sudbury, son of Mr. and Mrs. L. A. McTavish of Toronto.


    Palms, peonies and orange blossoms graced the church for the love- ly late spring ceremony which was performed by Rev. A. R. Skinner. pastor of the church.

    The bridal party entered the church to the strains of bridal muste played by Miss E. McTavish, aunt of the bridegroom.

    The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, wore a gown of mousseline de soi trimmed with rows of fine lace forming a tight bodice. The skirt was bordered with lace forming a short train and the costume was completed with a shoulder-length veil. She carried o Colonial bouquet of white roses and lily of the valley.

    She was attended by her sister. Miss Florence Kudoba, gowhed in Marina blue embroidered lace over taffeta with halo hat and carrying a
    Colonial bouquet of yellow roses. Mr Stuart Ferguson of Sudbury was the best man and the ushers were Messrs. Norman Dotzenroth and Kenneth Stuebing of Kitchener.

    Following the ceremony a wed ding reception was arranged at the Alexandra Palace, Toronto. Only the immediate relatives of the young people were present. The bride and bridegroom were assisted in receiv ing by the bride's mother, wearing hyacinth blue chiffon with corsage of Talisman roses and corn flowers. and by the bridegroom's mother. wearing a blue lace gown with corsage of Sweetheart roses and baby's breath.

    Following the reception the bride and bridegroom left on a wedding- trip by motor, the bride wearing for travelling a cream serge suit with rolled turban and Chartreuse accessories.

    Upon their return they will take up residence in Sudbury.

Beloved wife of Douglas Drury with whom she celebrated 61 years of marriage. Loving mother of Judy Wemerman (late John), Jim (Monique), Ed (Ruth) and Jane Muir (Colin). Phyllis will be fondly remembered by grandchildren, Greta (Chris), Ingrid (Dave), Eric, William and Jocelyn. Her price and joy were her great-grandsons, Gerrit and Drew. She will be sadly missed by sister, June Lindsay and her brother, Garvin Duench. Her love for life will continue through her family and friends.     Stanley J. Searles Meets Instant Death When Car Crashes Tree

    WALKERTON, Aug. 4.-A Kitchener man was in- stantly killed late yesterday afternoon and his friend seriously injured when the car the former was driving went out of control on the Walkerton-Paisley highway and struck a tree.

    The dead man is Stanley J. Searles 23, of 44 Mansion St Searles 24, Mansion St.

    Murray Leitch, 20, of 54 Mansion St., Kitchener, is in Walkerton Hospital with two broken legs and severe scalp lacerations.

    Lost Control of Car

    The fatality victim apparently lost control of the 1948 model car on the wet pavement driving north on the Elora Rd. toward Paisley. The machine crashed into a large elm tree 10 miles north of Walkerton at the farm lane of Hugh Campbell, R.R. 1, Paisley.

    Before hitting the tree it careened into the left ditch. Leitch was thrown clear by the impact but Searles was pinned in the wreckage. The dead man was extricated by garagemen who had to dismantle part of the car.

    Dr. H. Allan, Walkerton, Bruce County health officer, passed the scene shortly after the accident and had the injured youth sent to Walkerton Hospital by ambulance.

    Will Hold Inquest

    Cpl. Jack Craig. Constable Hugh Rutherford and Constable George Mills of the Provincial Police investigated. Dr. T. H. Sinclair, Walkerton coroner, said an inquest would be held. Searles, on holidays, had driven his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Searles, and sister, Audrey, to Kincardine Tuesday. They returned home that night and he left shortly after with his friend Mur- ray Leitch, who lives down the street a few houses.

    They planned to stay the remaineder of the week with Leitch's grandmother who resides in Paisley.

    Born in Kitchener, Stanley Searles attended Suddaby Public School and was employed at the Greb Shoe Co., Ltd. He played softball for the Greb team. De- ceased attended St. Matthew's Lutheran Church.

    Besides his parents, he is survived by a brother, Leslie, Kitchener, and a sister, Audrey at home.

    The body is at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home where funeral service will be held Monday at 3:30 p.m., with Rev. L. H. Schaus officiating in the absence of the pastor, Rev. Dr. John Schmieder. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery.

Fred was a 40 year member (1960-2000) of the I.O.F. and a Past Chief Ranger, Court Conestoga #1169. He farmed in Breslau for many years where he was on the Cream Board, Wheat Board and Hog Producers Board and the seniors group. The Hackbart family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM and 12-12: 45 PM on Thursday at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick St., Kitchener, 519-749-8467.     Friends and relatives were invited to the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo, for visitation on Tuesday, October 17 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with parish prayers at 8 p.m.

    The funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 18, 2006 (today) at 11:30 a.m. at St. Agnes RC Church, 75 Bluevale St. N., Waterloo.

    Interment at St. Agatha RC Cemetery, St. Agatha.

    A reception will follow the interment in the Fireside Reception Room of the funeral home.
