    Burkhart, Menno M., son of Peter and Nancy (Martin) Burkhart, was born in Woolwich Twp., Ont., June 7, 1891; died at Cambridge, Ont., Dec. 23, 1975; aged 84 y. On Aug. 16, 1914, he was married to Hattie Lichty, who preceded him in death on May 14, 1968. Surviving are 4 sons (Melvin, Eugene, Mahlon, and Donald), one daughter (Nora Mrs. E. Clare Shantz), 16 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 2 sons (Vernon and Ornon). He was a member of Erb Street Mennonite Church, where funeral services were held on Dec. 26, in charge of Galen Johns; interment in Erb Street Cemetery.

    NORA SHANTZ 1915 - 2006

    Passed away at Fairview Mennonite Home, in Cambridge, on Wednesday, August 16, 2006, at the age of 91 years.

    Predeceased by her husband E. Clare Shantz in 1995. Devoted mother of John and his wife Rosemary of Waterloo, and Elizabeth of Whitby. Lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Ryan and his wife Leslie of Burlington, and Craig of Waterloo. Survived by her brothers Donald Burkhardt and his wife Ferne, and Eugene Burkhart and his wife Eileen; and sister-in-law Peggy Burkhart, as well as many nieces and nephews.

    Predeceased by her parents, Menno and Hattie Burkhart; brothers, Melvin Burkhardt, Vernon, Ornan, and Mahlon Burkhart. Nora was a remarkable woman. After being diagnosed with cancer in 1958, and undergoing treatment at Princess Margaret Hospital, she resumed her role as wife and mother taking care of her children and her husband, who became a paraplegic in 1960. She was a life-long member of the Erb Street Mennonite Church in Waterloo. For the past 17 years she resided at Fairview Mennonite Home in Cambridge.

    The family wishes to extend their thanks to the residents and staff of Fairview Mennonite Home, and the Personal Support Workers of ParaMed, without whose help she would have been unable to stay in her home.

    Friends are invited to share their memories of Nora with her family during visitation in the Auditorium of Fairview Mennonite Home, 515 Langs Drive, Cambridge, today (Thursday) from 2-4 p.m. and also at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service to celebrate Nora's life and faith will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2006 at Erb Street Mennonite Church, 131 Erb St. W., Waterloo at 2 p.m. Interment will follow in Erb Street Mennonite Church Cemetery.

    BURKHARDT, Don Cameron Don transitioned from his earthly life to eternal life at Grand River Hospital on Monday, November 18, 2013, after suffering a brain hemorrhage. He was 82. He had enjoyed country living near New Dundee for more than fifty years before moving to Kitchener in June. Don worked in retail grocery businesses, including managing Zehrs' Markets in Kitchener, Waterloo, New Hamburg and Cambridge. He was an active member at Mannheim Mennonite Church. Don enjoyed music, leading hymns in church and singing in various choirs and he was a long-time volunteer with Mennonite Central Committee Ontario. In his younger years, his speed and agility playing hockey and softball were legendary; later he enjoyed golf, bowling and crokinole. Don was the youngest child born to Menno and Hattie (Lichty) Burkhart in Waterloo. One brother, Eugene, Langley, B.C., sister-in-law, Peggy (Mahlon), Waterloo, and numerous nieces and nephews survive. Besides his parents, sister Nora and husband E. Clare Shantz, brothers Vernon, Oron, Mahlon and Melvin and sisters-in-law Erlene Burkhardt and Eileen Burkhardt preceded him in death. Survivors include Don's wife, Ferne (Cressman); daughters Lorrie (Ken) Koch, New Hamburg and Nancy (Kyle) Yoder, Goshen, IN; son Dwight (Lisa Jones), Guelph; grandchildren Kris and Kathryn Koch, Madeleine and Adrian Burkhardt-Jones, Jeff, Trent and Nick Yoder; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law Vernon and Doris Cressman, Lois (Stan, deceased) Lowe of Kitchener and Rhoda (Arnold, deceased) Cressman, Mount Pleasant, PA. Both visitation on Friday, November 22nd, 2:00 to 4:00 p.m and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and the funeral service to celebrate Don's faith and life on Saturday, November 23rd at 11:00 a.m., will be held at Mannheim Mennonite Church, 1494 Bleams Road, Petersburg.
