    Jesse Baumann, "the eldest son of Eli and Rebecca (Schneider) Baumann, was born January 6th, 1853. On February 8th, 1876, he married Leah, daughter of David and Nancy (Musselman) Baumann. In February, 1878, they moved to May City, Osceola County, Iowa, where he is engaged in farming. He was ordained as a minister of the body known as the "Stauffer Mennonites" a year or so before they moved to Iowa. Their family consists of seven children".

    5 April 1942: Jesse S. Bauman died at his residence, a short distance north of Myerstown this morning. The decease was eighty-nine years of age. He was the son of the late Eli and Rebecca (Snyder) Bauman and was born in Wallenstein, Canada. He was of the Mennonite faith, migrated to Iowa In 1887 and remained there until 1915 when he moved to Lebanon County. Mr. Bauman was a retired farmer. Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Levi Brubaker and Mrs. Elias Gingrich, of Myerstown; two sons, Eli Bauman and Isaac Bauman, of Wallenstein, Canada; thirty-six grandchildren, and fifty-four great-grandchildren; also two sisters, Mrs. Moses Gingrich and Mrs. David Martin, of Elmira, Canada.     Gingerich. - Nancy, daughter of Jesse S. and Leah Bauman, was born Sept. 8, 1878, in Waterloo Co., Ont., died July 18, 1928, in Lebanon Co., Pa.; aged 49 y. 10 m. 10 d. She came with her parents to Iowa when about 10 years old where she grew to womanhood. In her young years she united with the Mennonite Church. On Nov. 26, 1899, she was married to Sidney Gingerich. To this union were born 2 sons and 4 daughters. In 1915 they with their family moved to Lebanon Co., Pa., near Myerstown, where she died. She leaves to mourn her departure her sorrowing husband, 2 sons and 4 daughters (Mrs. Levi M. Weaver, Mrs. James Showalter, Mrs. Norman Brubaker, Jesse B., Hannah B., Alvin B.), 5 grandchildren her aged father, 2 brothers, 2 sisters, uncles, aunts, cousins, and a host of sorrowing friends. Death was due to a stroke in connection with dropsy. She was of a quiet disposition, a kind mother, always having a smile for every one. Short services at the house by Brethren Abram Hoover in English and Amos Martin in German, with further services at the Brethren Church, conducted by Bishop Joseph Hostetter in English (Text, II Cor. 5: 1) and Frank Hurst in German. Burial in cemetery adjoining church.

Born in Iowa, she was a daughter of the late Jessie and Leah Bauman Bauman. She was a member of the Fairview Mennonite Church. Burkholder, Ephrata RD3, Minerva, wife of Ivan Weaver, Womelsdorf RD1; Rachel, wife of John Weaver, Lebanon RD 3; Miriam, wife of Louis Hurst, Ephrata, and Lovina, wife of David Martin, Myerstown RD 4; a sister, Mrs. Leah Musser, Myerstown RD 4; 71 grandchildren; 126 great-grandchildren and two great-great-granddaughters.     ISAAC BAUMAN

    Isaac Bauman, well-known farmer of the Fourth Concession of Peel, passed away at the K-W Hospital on Thursday morning at the age of 52 years, following an operation.

    Mr. Bauman, a son of the late Jesse and Leah Bauman, was born in Iowa, U.S.A., and spent the past 25 years in Peel Township.
    Surviving besides his widow, are four sons Clarence, Elias, Eli and Ad-en, and three daughters, Selina, Mary and Mabel, all at home, also two sisters residing in the United States.

    The funeral was held from the residence at 9:30 Monday morning to North Woolwich Mennonite Church for service. Burial was made in the adjoining cemetery.

    Martin.- Leah Bauman, daughter of Eli and Catherine (Brubacher) Bauman, was born in Osceola Co., Iowa, Aug. 27, 1913; died at K-W Hospital, Kitcheners Ont., Feb. 25, 1988; aged 74 y. On June 26, 1934, she was married to Emmanuel Martin, who survives. Also surviving are 11 children (Reta Martin, Alice Buschert, Laverne Martin, Grace Schweitzer, Barbara Gingrich, Kenneth, Ernest, Murray, David, and Donald Martin, and Elaine Pearce), 31 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and one sister (Barbara Frey). She was a member of Elmira Mennonite Church, where funeral services were held on Feb. 28, in charge of Ray Brubacher and Mary Schiedel; interment in Elmira Mennonite Cemetery.

    BAUMAN, Mabel M. 1929-2010 Passed away peacefully at St. Mary's General Hospital on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 in her 81st year. Mabel was born December 6, 1929 on the family farm on the 4th of Peel Township. Survived by brothers Elias and Minerva Bauman of Listowel, Aden and Joanne Bauman of Elmira and brother-in-law Henry and Eileen Martin of Elmira. Mabel was a special aunt to 18 nieces and nephews, 43 great-nieces and nephews and 22 great-great nieces and nephews. Also remembered by Carl Buschert who was a boarder at her home for 30 years and faithfully visited Mabel weekly at Chateau Gardens. Predeceased by her parents Isaac and Rebecca (Martin) Bauman, brothers Clarence (1990) and Eli (2004), sisters Selina (1997) and Mary Martin (2007), three nephews in infancy, two great-nieces and one great-nephew. In 1948, Mabel moved to Elmira with her brothers and sister. They built an accessible bungalow in 1962. She resided there until health issues helped her decide to move to Chateau Gardens LTC. Mabel enjoyed it there for 11 1/2 years where staff and other residents always appreciated her sweet smile and pleasant personality. The family would like to thank all staff at Chateau Gardens for their excellent care given to Mabel. The family will receive their friends and relatives at the Dreisinger Funeral Home , Elmira, on Monday, May 24, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service to celebrate Mabel's life will be held at the Elmira Mennonite Church on Tuesday, May 25, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Johanna Wall and Pastor Ray Brubacher officiating, followed by interment in Elmira Mennonite Cemetery. The casket will be open at the church from 9:30 until the time of service. In Mabel's memory, donations to Elmira Mennonite Church or Chateau Gardens Auxiliary would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.

    Aden grew up on the 4th Line in Wellington County, moved to William St. in Elmira and attended Riverside School where he made lifelong friends. As a young adult he attended Variety Village Vocational School in Toronto to learn watch repair. He spent his life working in this profession; he was the proud and industrious owner of Bauman Jewelers, Elmira from 1956 to 2000. Even after retiring, Aden never stopped watch and jewelry repair until his recent hospitalization and will be missed by many for his excellent workmanship. Aden was a faithful member of Elmira Mennonite Church and he appreciated the help of ushers and friends. A physical disability did not keep Aden from a life of work and friendships which was documented by his friend Del Gingrich in Watchman: Abilities and Disabilities.
