DIEFENBACHER, Dr. Nyle L. - Passed away, peacefully, on Saturday, December 15, 2007, after a stoic battle with esophageal cancer. Nyle was born in New Dundee and was the son of the late Lloyd and Olive Diefenbacher. He was the brother of Elva (Howard Fried) and special relation to Jean Schweitzer (Cliff). Devoted and beloved husband of Ruth (Dance) for 41 years. Kind and loving father of Darryl (Cheryl Hergott), Gail, Carol, Jeff (Jackie Sieber) and Craig. He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren, Kristen and Brent Diefenbacher, Yuri and Adan Fraser, Aimee, Brandon and Kaylee Wagner and Avery Diefenbacher, as well as his great-granddaughter, Aubrey Kropf. Nyle graduated from the faculty of Dentistry at the University of Toronto in 1953. He practiced dentistry in Kitchener for 43 years. His professional career included his membership in numerous associations including the Waterloo Wellington Dental Society where he served on the executive including President, the Academy of General Dentistry where he served on the executive including President, the International College of Dentists, the Pierre Fauchard Academy, the Ontario Section of the American College of Dentists where he served as President, the American Association of Dental Consultants, the Canadian Association of Dental consultants where he was a dental consultant for both Mutual Life (now Sun Life) and Manulife. He was President of the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario, and as past president was the Chairman of the Discipline Committee. In 1995, Nyle was honoured with the Ontario Dental Association's Service Award for Outstanding contributions to the dental profession. In addition to his numerous professional accolades, he was involved with many charities and community organizations including serving as a trustee for the Kitchener Public School Board and Waterloo County Board of Education. Aside from his commitment and involvement to service and community, he will above all be remembered for the dear family man he was, full of unconditional love. We remember the countless times of love, family and enjoyment at Nyle's second home yet first love, his cottage on Georgian Bay in Parry Sound. He was fortunate to have spent his retirement years up North at the place in the world where he was happiest. A man of many skills and talents, he was an extraordinary woodworker, sports fan, "water-ski instructor", bridge player, gardener, handyman and boater. You could always find him on his tractor, snowplowing the entire cottage neighbourhood, or lending a hand to whomever needed it. His faith in the Lord empowered Nyle to accept his illness with admirable strength and courage. Nyle's family will receive relatives and friends at the Henry Walser Funeral Home , 507 Frederick St. Kitchener, 519-749-8467 on Wednesday, December 19, 2007 from 7-9 p.m. and Thursday, December 20, 2007 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A memorial service to celebrate Nyle's life will be held at the Salvation Army Citadel (75 Tillsley Drive, Kitchener) on Friday, December 21, 2007 at 10 a.m. with the Reverend Marylin Rushton officiating. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Grand River Regional Cancer Centre, The Salvation Army or Care Partners would be appreciated (cards available at the funeral home). The family would like to sincerely thank Dr. Knight, Dr. Basrur, Dr. Kilmurry, Dr. Ward and all the wonderful nursing staff that crossed our paths over the last 11 months for their professional care and compassion. Thank you as well to the many family and friends who supported us at this recent difficult time. Visit www.henrywalser.com for online condolences or donations. Nyle led by example, always with a good sense of humour. For those of us that had the privilege of knowing him, he wasn't just a part of your life, he made a difference in it.
