    Mrs. Robert Morton Passes

    The death occurred in Paris Nursing Home on Tuesday of Mrs. Robert Morton, a lifelong resident of this district, in her 80th year. In failing health for some time, she had been moved from her home here to Paris at the first of the week. The former Mary Isabella Brown, she was born in Reidsville district, a daughter of the late Isabella Smith and James Brown. Following her marriage, they farmed for many years on the place east of Ayr now owned by Jack George, before retiring into this village. Her husband predeceased her some years ago. Mrs. Morton was a valued member and regular attendant of Knox United Church while her health permitted. Surviving are three sisters, Miss Hannah Brown of Ayr, Mrs. Ed. Shouldice (Margaret), North Dumfries, and Mrs. Alex Eddington (Jane) of Wolseley, Sask. Three brothers, James, William and Robert Brown, predeceased her.

    The Funeral

    The funeral will be held from the W. O. Ball Funeral Parlor on Saturday at 2.30 p.m., with interment in Ayr Cemetery.

    William Brown

    The death occurred at the residence, Cedar Creek Road, Tuesday afternoon of William Brown, in his 70th year. The late Mr. Brown was born in North Dumfries, a son of the late James Brown and Isabella Smith and had spent all his life in the vicinity.

    For the past 35 years, he had resided on the farm on Cedar Creek Road. He was an adherent of Knox's Presbyterian Church, Galt and for 40 years had been a member of Dolman Lodge, I.O.O.F., Ayr. He was an ardent lover of good livestock and of the farm, and for many years was a successful exhibitor of heavy horses.

    In March 1910, he was married to Mary N. Mitchell, who, along with one son, Robert G., at home, survives. Also surviving are one brother, Robert, of Paris, and four sisters: Mrs. A. B. Eddington of Woolsley, Sask.; Mrs. Mary Morton and Miss Hannah Brown, of Ayr; and Mrs. Ed. Shouldice, of North Dumfries, and five grandchildren.

    The funeral will take place from his late residence, Cedar Creek Road on Friday afternoon, June 2nd, at 2: 30 p.m., with interment in Ayr Cemetery. Rev. W. J. Walker of Knox's Presbyterian Church, Galt will officiate.

    Passing of Robert J. Brown In His 67th Year

    The death occurred in Willett Hospital, Paris, on Tuesday of Robert J. Brown, South Dumfries township, in his 67th year. Mr. Brown had been ill for a lengthy period.

    He was born in North Dumfries township, a son of James Brown and Isabella Smith, and resided in this community until some 22 years ago when he purchased the farm in South Dumfries which he occupied until his passing.

    Mr. Brown operated a grain threshing outfit in this section for many years, and was highly esteemed by a host of friends and acquaintances.

    He attended St. Paul's United Church, Paris. Surviving are the following sons and daughters: [Hen]ry, Vancouver: Mrs. A. M. Sowden (Elspeth), Paris; Margaret and Catherine, Ayr Jack and Robert, R.R. 2, Paris and Harvey. Plattsville. He is also survived by four sisters, Mrs. A. E. Eddington, Wolseley, Sask.; Mrs. Robert Morton and Miss Hannah Brown, Ayr, and Mrs. Edward Shouldice, North Dumfries.

    His wife, whose maiden name was Bessie Findlater, predeceased him a number of years ago. The funeral will take place from the Cumming Funeral Home, Paris, on Friday afternoon to Ayr.Cemetery.

    Miss Hannah R. Brown Passes - Relatives and friends gathered at the W. O. Ball Funeral Home in Ayr to pay their last respects to the late Miss Hannah Rachel Brown on Monday at 2: 30 p.m. Miss Brown passed away Thursday in St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener. She was in her 83rd year. Miss Brown was a lifelong resident of Ayr and district, having lived on Stanley Street for the past few years. She was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Brown of North Dumfries Township. She was a member of Knox United Church, Ayr. She leaves to mourn her passing, one sister, Mrs. E. (Margaret) Shouldice, Galt and 15 nephews and nieces. The beautiful floral tributes testified to the esteem in which she was held. Rev. D. E. Willis of Knox United Church, Ayr, officiated. Pallbearers were six nephews; R. F. Brown, RR 2, Paris; Harvey Brown, Washington; Jack Brown, Ayr; R. G. Brown, RR 4, Galt; George Shouldice, Galt; and George Eddington, Blair. Interment took place in Ayr Cemetery.

    Mrs. Margaret Louis Shouldice Passes

    Mrs. Margaret Louise Shouldice of 109 Christopher Drive, Cambridge, passed away Monday in South Waterloo Hospital. Born October 12, 1888 she was in her 89th year. Mrs. Shouldice was a daughter of James and Brown and was born at RR Ayr. She was a member of First United Church, Galt, and Central Dumfries Women's Institute. For many years she and her husband farmed at RR 4, Galt on the farm now owned by Frank Van Grunsven. Predeceased by her husband Joseph Edward Shouldice on April 17, 1964 and two daughters Mrs. Jack (Isabel) Muir and Mrs. J. R. (Margaret) Young. Survived by one son, George of Cambridge; seven grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. Resting at Coutts and Son Funeral Home, Galt, where service will be conducted Thursday at 3 p.m. Interment in Ayr Cemetery.

Brown of RR 2, Paris, in his 83rd year, husband of Margaret (Peggy) Forsyth; father of Shirley (the late Bill) McLaughlin, Doug (Leslie) Brown, Sheila (Neil) Beaton, Dianne (Fred) Stewart and Sandra Brown (Frank Willimsen); also sadly missed by 14 grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Brown; sisters, Elspeth (Art) Sowden, Mary Dickens and Catherine (Norm) Murphy; brother-in-law, Ab Gignac, and sisters-in-law, Lois and Dorothy Brown. Predeceased by son, David; sister, Marg Gignac and brothers, Jack and Harvey Brown. From Browndale Farm north of Paris, Bob built a world wide reputation for his breeding and judging of Holsteins. Along the way there were many personal achievements, most notably 2 Master Breeder shields, the Curtiss Clark Achievement Award at the 1988 Royal Winter Fair and the Klussendorf Trophy at the 1993 World Dairy Expo. Friends will be received at the Wm. Kipp Funeral Home , 184 Grand River Street North, Paris on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. where funeral service will be held on Monday, May 12 at 1 p.m. Interment Ayr Cemetery. Beloved husband of Lois (Wilkin), loving father to Sharon (Steve) Brown of Cambridge, Bonnie (Dave) Chapman of Ayr, Wendy (Dale) Benson of Ayr, Greg (Mary Jane) of Paris, Larry (Karen) of Ayr and Chris (Jennifer) of Ayr. Spectacular grandfather of, Michael, Traci, Jennifer, Angela, Mark, Jonathon, Dana, Elizabeth, Ryan, Fiona, Chris, Tyler, Trent, Jordan, Daniel and Curtis and great-grandfather to Julia and Matthew. Jack was born May 3, 1928 in North Dumfries Township and grew up, on what is now, the R. F. Brown farm at RR 2, Paris. He was the second son of Robert and Bessie (Findlater) Brown and a special brother to Elspeth (Art) Sowden of Paris, Robert (Peggy) Brown of Paris, Mary Dicken of Cambridge, Marg (Ab) Gignac of Cambridge and Cathy (Norm) Murphy of Cambridge. Loving son-in-law of Ruby and the late William Wilkin, of Little Current, Jack was also a wonderful brother-in-law to Bert Anne) Wilkin of Elliot Lake, Glenda (John) Hodder of Little Current, and Dorothy Brown of Washington. Predeceased by a brother Harvey Brown. Growing up Jack was active in many local sport leagues including hockey and ball and continued to enjoy these sports well into adulthood adding golf, euchre, bridge and fishing to his cadre of skills. Jack was a partner for 22 years with Dalrymple Insurance Brokers, Ayr, retiring in 1988. Upon retirement he and Lois, who celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in April, 2001, divided their time between homes in Destin, Florida, Little Current and Ayr, Ontario making lifelong friends in each location.     Harvey Brown

    Harvey Brown, aged 55 years, of RR 4, Bright (Washington) passed away at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener on Tuesday, September 10th, 1985. Born September 2, 1930 in South Dumfries, he was a son of the late Robert J. Brown and the former Elizabeth (Bessie) Findlater. Mr. Brown was a partner in Dalrymple Insurance Brokers in Ayr and prior to this was an employee of Carborundum Abrasives (Canada Sand Papers) in Plattsville for 26 years. He was actively involved in ball hockey and curling in the area and was chairman of the Plattsville Arena Board when the new arena was constructed in 1976. He was a former Blandford-Blenheim Township councillor. A member of Washington United Church, he served in several capacities in both Church and Sunday School. Beloved husband of the former Dorothy Simpson; he is lovingly remembered by his children, Brenda and her husband Rick Arnott of Woodstock, Brian Brown and his wife Valerie of Haysville, Gwen and her husband Stephen Oakes of Dundalk, Brad Brown and his wife Rietta of Calgary, Alberta. Loving grandfather of Danielle and Tamara Arnott and Amanda and Kristen Brown. Also surviving are two brothers, Robert F. of RR 2, Paris and John S. of Ayr; four sisters, Mrs. Arthur (Elspeth) Sowden of Paris, Mrs. Mary Dicken, Mrs. Albert (Margaret) Gignac and Mrs. Norman (Cathy) Murphy, all of Cambridge. Friends and relatives were received at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, New Hamburg, until Saturday when transfer was made to Washington United Church were a service was held with Rev. Gary Boratto officiating. Interment in Ayr cemetery. Pallbearers were Larry Brown, Chris Brown, Dave Chapman, Randy Simpson and Scott Simpson, all nephews and Robert Stanlake. Flower bearers were Wally Bourne, Frank Stott, Armin Kowitz and. Elmer Baer.
